Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

Hopefully the Nuggets don't win a championship and burn the parade that should rightfully go to welcoming Crouse to town.
Stupid side note that may or may not be funny....

All these years, I passively thought your signature was attributed to Will James who is actually a semi-hero of mine... and someone I could have honestly seen saying that, so I never even really thought about it until today. So color me surprised Bill and Will James are VERY different people.

Tbf with the Avs goaltending the last couple years GF% could be a little flawed. His xGF% this year was 50.56. SF% was 51.9. CF% 53.26. High danger chances% wan 50.96. In all those metrics he's a net positive. He scored 23ES points this year which is a decent number and we all know he's unreal in the transition game.

This isn't to say that Girards a perfect player and should be untouchable. But the "small=bad" thing is horribly overblown with him. There's a very good chance if he's moved whoever replaces him is a pretty big downgrade because we won't have the cap space or assets to correctly replace him.
You act like those numbers have nothing to do with the other 5 guys on the ice.

Playing with our 4th line and Georgiev does not do good things to ones stats.

It’s more about what @the_fan said, G isn’t awful but he gets outmuscled a lot in the playoffs, especially in front of the net. It tends to cost this team some goals against.
I kind of feel this is a myth going back to a Vegas seriers in '21.

I certainly did not see Girard getting out muscled in this last playoffs. If you want to go video for video with me I will. Trust me. You can find videos where he did... but I can find TONS of videos where he was stick, poke and body checking people.

This myth of him being a liability needs to die. But it won't while intelligent people like you continue to propigate it without basis or merit.

All I know is since the Avs have decided not to make a coaching change, there needs to be some roster changes. We just can’t go into next season with the same coach, same systems and same roster. Something gotta change.

If roster changes means a Necas+Girard package for a better 2C than Nelson so be it. We need a big shake up like that

I’m not sure why everyone is tripping out at my opinion. Of course he does a lot of good things, he wouldnt be an NHLer if he didn’t. But I think it’s fair to say he gets outmuscled too because he does and it generally comes in the playoffs when players go to net a lot more. I thought he was better in the Dallas series than he has been previously but I still saw it happen as well.

I don’t hate G and if he’s still here next season I won’t hate it, but I still don’t feel he works the best in the playoffs either. Agree to disagree I guess, but just not getting why multiple people have gotten so offended by my opinion 🤷‍♂️

There need to be feelers out on
Girard
Manson
Colton
Malinski
Wood
Nuke

Less possible
Necas
Drury
My God Bob.

As a fan of the Avalanche, I can assure you I am glad you are not the GM. Above and beyond that at this point, I'm just going to add:

I think it's fair to say your opinion is over three years old at this point and not based on actual recent games played.

When you think about it, Avs have lost too many key playoff performers and gained players who aren’t really that good in the playoffs, and I’ll include Girard in that list too since he got injured early in 2022 playoffs and wasn’t there for the entire run.

Lost Kadri replaced with few failed options and now Nelson who isn’t anywhere close to being a playoffs performer as Kadri

Mikko replaced by Necas another big downgrade for the playoffs.

Byram was great in the cup run, I rather have him right now than Girard

That’s just too many key playoff guys lost

Bednar has his faults for sure, no argument there, but like I mentioned in my other post, what do we do now that they decided to keep Bednar? If we run it back with the same coach, same roster, we won’t get a better result. The results will be the same. So the other thing to do is a roster shake up. We need something different

I mean, I’ve watched almost every game in these last 3 years and have watched closely, but like I said, agree to disagree.
We will.

Girard is not the liability you think he is. He's a one man transition unit playing with guys that never practice, don't have a f***ing game plan and work for a coach who wants nothing more than 15-20 seconds rest before he can send his actual team back out.

Bednar is THE problem with the Avs at thsi point. His inability to put together a second lin regardless of the pieces literally force fed him by the GM is indicitive of his inability to adapt.

We don't discuss that here.

Give me a PM.

Now Bednar being a problem is something we can fully agree on. They need to bring in an assistant that can challenge him to think outside of his little box more. Otherwise, Bednar needs to be on a short leash this season.

What concerns me is we just did a huge roster shakeup and it did nothing really other than give us much better goaltending and better center depth. Something is gonna have to give with the coaching staff because the thing I hate is that Bednar puts the onus on the players, like his system is some flawless system and unbeatable as long as the players play really really hard .

LOL nothing I say is a secret. Coaching change isn’t happening, so some people probably think we should re-sign Nelson and run it back, and some of us think we should make few changes that’s all

Exactly, you’re open and honest. Just like when you shared with all of us that you had your perbix amputated

Well if we gonna hope for a coaching change, we probably have to wait for another full season. If we lose again in the 1st round, there is a good chance Bednar will be replaced

I'm really hoping that the firing of Bennett put Bednar on notice even with cmac and sakic saying he's our guy.
