Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

Sunk cost fallacy or not, Nelson is a proven 2C. Has been for years and years. If Bednar can't figure out how to make it work, then that's the guy who needs to go. We don't have the assets to find yet another different 2C.

I can't wait for the Wild to be the fools giving Nelson his next contract on July 1st and there's nothing you can say to change my mind. You can tell me the Avs will re-acquire JTC if Nelson leaves and I'll gladly accept it. **** Brock Nelson.

He’s been going crazy hard at CMac ever since we got eliminated.

Not one word about Bednar. It’s all about CMac and trading Mikko.

I still don't understand how some people still believe Aarif Deen is worth keeping around as a journalist.

You see, he's lost all journliastic integrity when he starts weighing in on what he's recovering. He's stopped being an arbiter of truth and has become a talking head. If that's what he views himself as, okay.

But for the love of all that is holy, can we stop calling these people journalists? The absolutely are NOT!

Absolutely he is. Girard is also something that many teams that are rebuilding are looking for. Wouldn't Chicago like him? They have f*** all, in terms of skill at the backend for an example. Girard is something you really want for your regular season, as your #3 guy.

Chicago is more than fine with dmen. You can keep Girard.

I'm right there with him. I was one of MacFarland's louder supporters the past few years, but I'm done. He started Be A GM mode with a roster that was like a 98 overall. If Colorado wins the Cup next year, there's no way the narrative around CMac is anything other than "he made a lot of mistakes along the way but was able to fix them in the end."

That's the best case scenario. The current reality is Colorado has (probably) the worst prospect pool in the NHL, no top-100 picks in the next two drafts, and somehow the 2C spot is still unclear. Meanwhile, Rantanen is putting up a legendary performance for the team that knocked the Avs out. I'm not discouraging anyone from ripping Bednar, but I just don't think that's the core problem here.

The fact that Sakic is keeping Bednar and CMac after another early round exit yet again, having to watch it come at the hands of an elite player they recently traded away speaks volumes regarding his (limited) capability as a shrewd hockey business leader. Frankly he’s lucky that Kroenke’s are essentially absentee landlords, no way this would unfold like this in a major hockey market. Avs being 3rd priority in terms of Denver sports has them flying under the radar when it comes to (in)competence and means more suffering for us😒

Kroenke’s are just satisfied with the Avs winning the cup every 20 years. They know they’ll still fill out the arena and make their money as long as they have exciting players like Nate and Cale who people will continue to pay to watch

Yep and that means we get to keep incompetent mgmt
Also it’s probably not that easy for Kroenke to let Sakic and CMac go. I mean CMac is Sakic’s guy, if they gonna fire CMac, they have to let Joe go too. Just can’t see that happening

CMac stuck with Bednar. That's his guy. If the Avs falter next season, both guys have got to be punted.

Then again, if the Avs falter next season it's probably rebuild time. MacKinnon will be 31, Landeskog what 33? 34? Makar needing a new mega deal as a pending UFA, Necas needing a new deal. Nichushkin and Lehkonen 31, Toews 33. Not exactly ideal.

I remember going to games between 2010-2013 when no one showed up, well other then other teams fans

CMac is stuck with Bednar, Sakic is stuck with CMac, Kroenke’s are stuck with Sakic. It’s a vicious cycle

I see it the same way, CMac giving the huge vote of confidence to Bednar was him picking "his" coach.

Coyle and Nelson are both 33 years old (Nelson is 34 in October) and CMac just traded a huge pile of shit for them (1st, 2nd, Mitts, Ritchie, Zellers). I am positive the Avs are going to grind things down to the rims, just like Pittsburgh. In 3-4 years Colorado will be trading for the corpse of Roman Josi trying to keep the window open, ala Erik Karlsson to the Penguins.

How much cap space did he inherit? I think people are going a little over the top with the revisionist history and hatred for CMac.
