Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

His play started deteriorating at the beginning of 2023-24 and got progressively worse. Something is very wrong with him.

I remember Canucks fans starting to worry about his play and his new contract 2 months into 2023-24.
I’m not saying we won’t be taking a risk if we get EP, but it’s no more of a risk than re-signing Nelson and then Necas after next year. Those are all risky moves but I rather take the EP risk

Horvat is one of the least risky center out there. His age fits the core, his cap hit is fine, he's signed long term... I'd welcome him with open arms.

If Bednar can't make it work with Horvat even CMac would have to admit that the coach is the issue.

At this point I could see Bednar not being able to figure out how to use Crosby effectively

I mean sure, if Horvat is possible…

But why are the Islanders trading away their only legit, and 1C??

Because they get a new GM, they absolutely need a to rebuild ASAP and they just won the 1st OA pick. The timing is excellent.

I think they keep Barzal and Dobson to build around and everyone else will be available: Sorokin, Romanov, Pelech, Pulock and Horvat.

You guys really want Horvat after players like Mittelstadt, Nelson struggled to play in our system? Horvat is a similar player to those who struggle under Bednar, why would you take another risk with Horvat? Only players with pure talent are able to play on our top 6. That’s why I say go for EP

Kadri is in the same vein as all those players.

f*** EP, 11.5 on a player that has struggled and is expensive plus the asset cost. Kill that dream

Kadri has pure talent though. It may seem like he’s more of a grinder, but he really has underrated skills and talent

Bennett will disappoint you too, but he at least will bring more speed, energy, and physicality.

Avs don't have the wingers to make Bennett work. As RIAL pointed out, he's not skilled enough on his own to really carry a line. He's a perfect fit with a guy like Tkachuk though.
I wont be disappointed. I wanted that guy the minute Calgary made him available. He will work just fine with Val and Landy or whoever they decide on the second line.

He would never choose to sign in Denver and you know it.

Re-signs in tax free Florida or goes home to Toronto. Anything else is a long shot.

No upper echelon player willingly joins Colorado.

Your lips to gods ear!

Unfortunately with the term he's got left, somebody needs to put him on LTIR to get him off the roster sooner.

Miles Wood tried his best, damnit.

Maybe if Avs start the next season poorly and struggle for a while, there will be a coaching change, but it’s gotta be a lengthy struggle, like playing sub 500 hockey for at least couple of months. Does anyone see this happening?

Not even then they will have the cojones to fire Bednar.....So no.

We ride this out wit Jared, Pratt... Lets hope the new Assistant can work some magic.

It would take a catastrophic losing streak for Josh Kroenke to take notice, so no, probably not

Exactly. We can't keep our own players what makes people think we will grab prime FA.

There is a chance players eventually tune out Bednar and they’d have no choice but to make a coaching change. Losing in the 1st or 2nd round year after year usually gets to players and they just stop listening to the coach. I think another year of 1st or 2nd round exit and Bednar is gone.
