Not holding my breath that they'll play Necas at center.

Well folks, it has been fun (not really.) I'll see you come October. A few parting thoughts:

1) I disagree with those who want CMac canned. IMO he was doomed by Landy's contract. He could not make a 5 to 7 year deal with a 2C with the uncertainty of that $7M coming back on the books. This impacted Kadri as much as anything. As did EJ's NMC.

2) The entire coaching staff needs to go. I've been on the Fire Bednar Train since the day after the Cup win. Bennet and Pratt are awful. Francouz is in the organization and can do just as much as Parkilla. CMac finally gave them a decent roster but the results were identical.

3) I don't think the current roster is bad. The 'System' has made a lot of decent players totally bad over the past 3 years. Nelson is not a bad 2C. If Bennet were available in UFA, and wanted to play for $7M (preferably more like $6M) perhaps Nelson can walk. Landy appears to be able to take Top 6 assignment next year.

Landy - Mack - Drouin
Necas - Nelson - Nuke
Lehky - Coyle - Kivi ( assuming Colton and Wood can be moved for picks.)
Kelly - Drury - LOC

That is the best 4th line in the league. It might be the best 2nd line as well. The first line would be sneakysmart especially if a new coach uses the LOC line to neutralize the opposing 1st line whenever possible. Mack could have a career year with Landy and Drouin on his wings, as both know how to get him the puck perfectly.

4) Hinote is already in the system. Make him the offensive guru. Foote's contract with Vancouver is up, so bring him back as the D coach. Is Cronin a viable HC possibility? I think I would be good with Coach Q as well. David Carle would make for a great Hallmark Movie plot line, but I don't think his style is the best fit for this Avs team at this time. NYR got Sullivan.

That's it for me. What a waste of years of prime Makar and Mack. Happy Summer all!

We need to hire a coach that says he wants to play Necas at center during his interview process. Needs to be his own idea, not forced by CMac.

I know Q did a second interview. Is anything else announced? I’m sure if we step in soon, he’d prefer the Avs. Knows the org, it’s basically home for him, and much higher chance of winning.

I have a couple of other options if Q can’t be hired, but until I see otherwise then he’s my first choice.

He's one of the few guys I'd dump Bednar for.

If I'm CMac, I am trying like all hell to poach Tanguay from Detroit to be an Assistant Coach. Especially if they can quickly lure Q.

Having the experience of Q along with him being a true asshole behind the bench in a "you better f***ing play the way I need you to play" way, and Tanguay's offensive genius (seriously, in no way should DETROIT be top in the league in PP) would go a long way.

The coaching staff has to go. Whatever roster moves CMac has planned can wait. Get rid of the staff ASAP and get on with the coaching search before the good ones are all gone.

I'm down with that. Bednar's way too inflexible. A good coach will turn these guys into mentality monsters.
 
We honestly need a coach that can make the most of a decent roster rather than one that can do well with a strong roster. I think it’s a combo of the rest of the league figuring out the Bednar system as well as Bednar not being able to deviate from his plan. This was probably the strongest roster we are going to be able to ice for some time, can’t have a coach that can’t make use of his depth pieces and just runs the big guns into the ground before it counts.

I wouldn’t do that yet.

First off, there’s no guarantee whoever you trade these guys for are suddenly “playoff performers.”

Secondly, the only voice these guys have had in the playoffs is Jared choking Bednar. A guy who’s gotten past the second round ONCE in a decade with the best F/D combo since Gretzky/Coffey.

I want to see the core of this team under a different coaching style first.

I mean Necas has a history of fading in the playoffs going back to his Carolina days. I know you’re a bigger fan of Girard than I am, I just don’t think he brings enough outside his transition game

I’m not a big Girard fan at all.

I’m just not a Bednar fan whatsoever. Give these guys a new voice.
 
Bednar has earned the right to take another bottom dweller and turn it into a playoff contender. Sharks maybe?

This would make me mentally and emotionally check out for the entire next season. Without a doubt.

I couldn’t care less if we finish 1st overall in the regular season. All I would be expecting is another loss to Daddy DeBoer and the Stars.
