Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

It should be obvious to everyone at this point that they need a new look, for better or worse. Had it not been for a historic run where every piece perfectly fell into place, this coaching staff's playoff record would be unacceptable by any standard with two of the best players in the world (at key positions) at their disposal.

Mikko Rantanen. Mikko Rantanen. Mikko Rantanen. We are out of the playoffs because of...Mikko Rantanen?

Imagine waking up from a coma that you've been in since January to that.

Mikko, what a stud. Can't hate the man, he wanted to stay. He was always a playoff gamer. He'll always have my respect.

We should have won the series. Goaltending was a huge difference. It sucks. We're a veteran team, very few young players here or even on the horizon. Whats our window remaining, 4 years? Ive been a staunch Bednar defender and fan of his. I wouldnt fire him because of this. But i would say if we have a team as good as this one next year and its another playoff flop, its time to go Bedsy.

It is telling that this staff needed our 2C to produce like a 1C in order to have any real success in the playoffs - albeit a goddamn championship which i wont take for granted

Where do the Avs go from here?

The current roster with players under contract for next season:

A 2C upgrade is needed and some defense at the moment...

Landeskog Mackinnon Necas
Lehkonen 2C Nichushkin
Wood Coyle Colton
Kelly Drury O'Connor

Toews Makar
Girard Manson
3LD - 3RD

Blackwood
Wedgewood

Yeah I
Are you a Sens fan? Bro, I would trade you Necas + the next 5 1st rounders for Pinto. This entire core blows, and we have no assets left. Why not trade 2031 1st at this point?
cheer for the Sens and with Ritchie gone, the only realistic deal that involves Pinto would be for Necas. Obviously, you guys aren't trading Mack or Makar.

Mikko Rantanen wasn't why we lost that series. Losing twice in OT, an impotent PP and Bednar only being able to out-coach DeBitch in game #4 is why

The forwards couldn't do jack shit, passing the puck into the Stars' sticks 90% of the time. Not enough pucks towards the net, not enough bodies in the slot. When there was both of those, they won.
On no planet should Logan O'Connor be your second leading scorer in a 7 game series

LOC had 6 points in 94:45. Amazing some of the names that had more TOI and did so much less than he.

f*** the core!
f*** the coaching staff!
I believe CMac tried, but still f*** 'em!
Full f***ing rebuild. The window is closed, over, done. They got their cup and they are not interested in making that grind to 16 playoff wins again. They don't have the heart or desire.

go full rebuild, it's over.
The only problem is we can’t draft or develop players at all. MacK, Rantanen, and Makar are the only players worth a shit that we have drafted over the last decade and that is because they are all-world talents. When the MacKinnon and Makar era is over, it’s going to be ugly.

I feel like Landeskog should be included in your list, but point very well taken.

You know what?

Players will clean their locker on monday, get through the exit-interviews. And the majority of them wont give a shit after that and enjoy another long summer and vacation and time with their families. And thats ok. They are humans after all. No hard feelings about that.

I will always remember that picture of O´Reilly sitting in his full gear in the locker after that Game 7 OT loss against the Wild.....

But there lies the problem: I just havent seen this unbridled will, the hunger to go all the way to another cup in those 2 years after 2022. I dont count 2023 because that year we just were not able to compete in any way.

And maybe i should do the same and take this exit as a starting point to stop getting invested too much in this team and game. In the end, its a game, a beautiful game, but there are more important things in life than watching hockey-playing millionaires getting a mental collapse in the worst possible way. And that is not good for my health either......

I mean, were to go from here?

We dont have any picks, so the Draft will be a wash. Hell, we dont even have to travel there with our, what, 3 late rounders left.

We dont have any material left to trade either.

And even a team that has MacKinnon and Makar is not that attractive to Free Agents......Especially after this Game 7 and this total collapse.
The worst loss in playoff-history to me.
Not even that slaughter from Detroit was that bad back then.

Step 1:
This team needs a new headcoach and coaching team. Thanks Jared for the cup 2022 and taking over for Roy knowing it would be a lost season. Thank you for going all the way from bottom to top, but lets be honest, a monkey could have coached this team in 2022 to that cup.

Beside that, our playoff-performances are a nightmare. So Bednar should be gone by Monday. And with him his assistants. Our horrible Special teams cost us not only this series, but the season and best chance to win another cup in years.

Step 2: Wont happen...
Sakic to fire MacFarland. Sakic was the one who brought in his buddy and promised/gave him this job.

Maybe Josh Kroenke steps in after getting sober because he celebrated that Game 7 win of the Nuggets and fires MacFarland.

Talking about the Nuggets: They showed up when the season was on the line. And man, they really showed who is the boss.

This could have been a historical day for Denver. 2 Teams winning their Game 7s.... But one team could not hold their shit together for 12 f***ing minutes.....

Step 3: Players
I mean, the team is basically set. I expect Nelson and Lindgren to walk. But thats it.

Step 4: Bring in mental-coaches for this team. For every f***ing player. Time to adress the elephant in the room.

Losing to Dallas without Heiskanen and Robertson for the 2nd year in a row, cocking away a 2-0 lead with only one period to go and gettin killed by a former teammate in that process.

This is f***ing unbelievable......

Necas for 2C , he's been a center his whole life but we couldn't try him there.

Trade Drury.

Makar needs to get in shape. What an 😳 series from him.

Bednar's got another year on his contact. And, while there are only two draft picks this year, there are more picks coming after 2025. In the meantime, there should be enough cap space to get a proper 2C in free agency this time.

It will be sad but i think that Bednar needs to go. He seems to be too stubborn with his system and for some reason can’t adapt the system for his new players. Also if the system needs a top notch execution to work and you can’t prepare your players for every night something must be done.

Wrote this to the trade proposals thread.. should be here too.

- New coaching staff. This is the most important thing of all.
- Sign Nelson 6-6,5M x 5yrs.
- Sign Drouin 3M x 3yrs.
- Offer Lindgren 5M x 5-6yrs max. He bites if he bites.
- Trade Colton, gather assets.
- Trade Wood, if you can give him away for free pls do so.
- Feel the market on Girard. He's good, but especially if Lindgren wants to stay Girard could bring decent assets to be used in the next 1-2 trade deadlines.

Pretty much in order. New coach will get more out of Nelson, guaranteed. He is a good player, he doesn't suddenly forget how to hockey - it's what the coaching staff asks of him.

Not even reading this thread.
F*ck off each and every one one of you drama queens acting your one-note fire Bednar song.
You sound 14. You're predictable. And you have a small penis.

LOL. So you’re happy with JB’s performance? You’re the one that’s acting like a petulant toddler. Just because we pointed out the flaws in the Avs game before the final debacle? Kill the messenger seems to be your MO here.
