The money is completely irrelevant here on a 3 year deal. Is he still a good player? I'll leave that up to others to decide. If he's still a good player then it's the type of signing they should be in on. If Campbell is ready and forces his way into at bats it will work itself out. It also seems Bregman will be highly motivated to use the opt outs if he can. Hopefully get the absolute best out of him for a year anyway.

Short term we get some entertainment while long term you can focus on extending the young core.

We just got a draft pick from the Padres for Pivetta. Sox would earn a Comp. Round B selection (No. 77 overall) in the 2025 Draft.

San Diego forfeited its 2nd-highest Draft pick and $500,000 from its int'l bonus pool.

I'm sorry, but this feels a little ridiculous. The only move they've made this offseason that required any "balls", so-to-speak, was the Crochet trade. Everything else was just gambling (Buehler, Sandoval, Chapman) or giving out crazy big short-term money (Bregman), which is mostly about ownership giving you a large enough budget to spend. You or I could have signed those deals. Let's not act like they've done anything extraordinary. This would be considered a relatively underwhelming offseason for the majority of FSG's ownership tenure.
