Scorched earth is the right approach, but teams get to the middle of it and lose patience, it takes an aligned FO/ownership to make it work...Cubs did it perfectly when Theo took over

I dont get how people are saying hiring Blashill means a push for playoffs is connected. Seems to me the opposite, but saying development is the focus
If a better hire hits the market next year are they going to have the ability to move on from Blashill? Is this KD last hire? If so, he needs to win and win sooner than later

Toronto when they went with the Shanaplan?

You talking the 2013-2016 timeframe? Their worst season in that phase still had more points than the Hawks and after 3 losing seasons they were back in the playoffs in the 4th year.

2013-14 - 84 points
2014-15 - 68 points
2015-16 - 69 points
2016-27 - 95 points and in the playoffs

Hawks are averaging 60 points over the last 4 seasons, for context.

There is enough noise from credible people on Twitter to conclude that it’s a formality. Blashill is happening.

No idea how that will go. But coach is probably the most difficult position to evaluate by fans. So let’s chill, shall we?

I'd be glad if Kyle staked his career on Blashill

it means he'll be fired

and the man who passed on Cristall for Gajan should've been fired 2 years ago

The Shanaplan started with Nylander then Marner and Matthews, then they added Tavares and already had Rielly, but they tore it to the foundation relative to what the prior regime was trying to do...I would argue a full teardown is easier in a big market like Chicago because the revenue is stickier, so they have the flexibility to add assets in more creative ways, which they've done through cap dumps etc. It feels like the rebuild is about 60% done but that last 40% is being patient and adding two more blue chip forwards in 26 and 27 then its done, not sure the FO sees it as 60% done and might see it as more 80%

IDK why you'd stake your career to a guy that has a sub 40% wr over 400+ games and is 1-4 in one playoff appearance 9 years ago...I would take Torts over Blashill at this point

And the man who claimed Peter Reynolds, Ethan Keppen, and Marat Khustnudinov were future NHL stars probably should’ve stopped pretending his opinions were gospel about a half decade ago.
"stars" lol

That was only said of Khusnutdinov.

Keppen was literally ranked outside my 1st round (I saw him as a good bottom 6er), and Reynolds, who I didn't know had attitude/work ethic issues, I only ever projected as a middle sixer which I wouldn't have done in the first place if I was privy to his issues that weren't publicized.

And Marat is only 22. I wouldn't rule him out right now. Maybe he doesn't become a star, but you're still looking at a two way player with great hands and speed. He could easily carve out a career as an effective middle sixer. He's still adjusting to NHL hockey.

Blashill took over a Wings team when Datsyuk was about to retire, Zetterberg was on his last legs and it was basically just a young Dylan Larkin and a beat up Kronwall. I'm not high on him, but let's give him a fair shake. Lots of coaches learn more the second go around. Even Joel Quenneville was viewed as a meh hire once upon a time because of his time in St. Louis until he wasn't. Not comparing Blashill to Quenneville, just the process of it.

I'm personally just happy it isn't ANOTHER head coach with 0 NHL experience. It isn't working and this team is too green for it.

Not going to lie, I'm not going to pretend to have a name in mind for who I want given that Carle's not interested, but hiring Blashill would be such an absurdly underwhelming move. I don't think he moves the needle at all for the team. Maybe not a net negative like some options like Torts, but a resounding meh for me.

Almost feels like:

Point is NONE of them are currently successful NHL players and yet you threw shit storms about them not being selected.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Davidson doesn’t deserve to be fired over one draft pick that an internet fan scout didn’t agree with.

I appreciate that you actually watch these kids to form opinions on them but you’d do well to learn the difference between a sentence like “I liked Cristall and wish they would’ve picked him” and “Davidson deserves to be fired for not drafting Cristall”.

Not drafting Cristall is actually a fireable offense though.

That one is different.

That's a player who is top 5 in his draft class (and Bedard's childhood friend), and Chicago passed on him for a bust overager goalie. Inexcusable.

Ahhhh yes. The definitive top 5 player in the class who has yet to play in the NHL. Absolutely a fireable offense to not draft a kid because he kept scoring in junior after the draft.

On the more optimistic side, its not like Detroit has gotten so much better after he left and they have had better rosters since he has left. Seider had arguably his best year his rookie year under Blashill and Bertuzzi's best years were also with Blashill. Was willing to give Seider immediate 1D role as well when he broke in so hopefully will do the same with Rinzel. Also gave Raymond a pretty large role as a rookie and he is a smaller forward which a lot of our young forwards are.

But lijee thex Hawks Flyers have a lot of cap money to spend (s24 milkion) ...they havec7vdrFtvocks in first 2 rounds (3 firsts)
.They can trade picks to add vets for quicker improvenent if that is what Toccoa wants..

As to free agents we conoete for with otger teams too..

I mean if you are Marber how Bout adding to that forwatd group they have or gave co I g now.. Celebrini Smith Haltubenand Misa and Chernyshov.. they can also focus on adding vet dmen..

But if you are action free agent I think you choose that SJ re-buildvover 2 shrimps and what in Chicago (up front)
I Fyoucare Marner I doubt many cobtenderschave cao space to land hom but if he did choose a re-build I think he betsconSJ climbing fStsr than us because SJ may have 2 top lines done wY faster than we can Finland with bigger help arriving on the wings..

I don't mind Blashill either. Granted there are no available slam dunks left and he had a tough roster in Detroit. Then he had 3 years to watch Cooper and he had to have learned a thing or 2. I wonder if KD has spoken with Bertuzzi about him at all.

Yea we’ll see. In the end, Hawks are not a season or 2 away from being contenders so whichever coach we get can be moved without too much flip flopping, or they surprise us.
Ppl were positive about the Richardson hiring and the Montreal forum were happy for him and look where that got us…

For expectations, there is like a 80% chance whoever is hired will become a whipping boy for us in 2 years and then they’ll get fired and cycle will continue on and on.
