Why hire someone you find to be a bit better, seems like a laterall move. Young guys on Hawks team played good hockey at end and there were many of them. Sorenson isnt holding them back. Hes ok developing prospect and giving them ice time. Another placeholder coach might not be for being afraid of keeping his job like Richardson with his uber safe no risk hockey!

Make the investment when you have your guy!!

Because Sorenson did not do a good job coaching the team. We can always go get another coach after next season but can't keep rolling with Sorenson he has proven he is not the guy. Young players got better because it is natural for young players to get better as they get more games in the league. I am not sure he actually made any of the young players better and Bedard definitely did not get better. We are not a budget team or anything like that so if you can improve the team marginally with a new coach why not do it? Don't have to wait for so called "The guy" because as we saw this offseason "The guy" did not want to come here and that could become a trend.

Right.

Anders only cares about developing the young talent, and he knows that he has guaranteed job security within the org if they find a replacement. So he doesn't need to make those short sighted decisions you're talking about.

Bedard having a step back this year has more to do with LR coaching (you lose confidense if you arent getting results) and and not having enough skill to play with. Any time Bedard was on ice with Nazar, Rinzel, Moore, Vlasic, Lev you could see things happening.

Thats why its important KD improves the team and Sorenson playes the kids so they develop. You actually have to play to develop!

Bedard made it sound like LR only showed him film of the things he was doing wrong versus Sorensen who would talk to him 'about the fun stuff' as well...He was fired mid year and never talked about for a reason, so maybe that is one

I get that winning the lotto next year would be huge and all but I’m not sure how good I’ll feel about another tank season. Especially with the same coach and minimal to zero additions to our forward corps.

Some things are simply just out of the Hawks control with coaches and free agents but watching another sub 70 point season with Sorenson and Bedard himself having another sub 70 point season himself because this roster sucks…no good.

I don’t have any answers but I feel like we’re getting a copy paste for next season with marginal improvements where we finish 5th worst instead of 2nd worst.

I doubt Kyle will go all in on the remaining coaches. The guy he wanted isn't coming, might as well keep the coach that actually helped them to develop and play more offensive oriented.

Hawks will not contend for the POs next season, no matter who you hire as coach.

Yep definitely can and should aim a lot higher I just think it would not be hard to find someone who is an upgrade even if it is not a home run. We are not a desirable location for a coach right now, but we can surely find someone better.

Besides all the reason the others already posted, in a year this job will be like the hottest job put there because more and more of our young guys are making the roster. It could convince for example Carle himself.

I'm also in the patient camp, unless Bednar gets fired this off-season.

Richardson had system, Sorensen doesn’t. After Q, I think Richardson has been best coach we had.

If you want Bedard to be grinder sure LR would make sense, but we already tried that and it didnt work!!

Yeah seems Sorensen is the way to go at this point. He’ll play Rinzel and Lev and Del Mastro 20 minutes a night. He’ll give Moore a shot at the top 6 and put Bertuzzi on the fourth line for playing like garbage.

Gotta get these kids established. And for not having a system, the best hockey they played was under him when he let the kids play fast and loose.

I have mixed feelings about Woodcroft!? For sure the players let him down but was it because of the coach or that players got complacent... Also he had best player in the league and another top 5 and used them too much and the rest of the team wasnt ready when McDrai were kept off the scoreboard!? He has really good win record but how much of that is McDrai!?

He only lasted a year as Oilers coach so not sold on him!!

If we spend another year in the basement without any improvement from Bedard, this would still not be a very desirable coaching destination. No reason to not go get Todd Nelson, he would also play the kids I would think because they are the best players on the team.

I would prefer a coach that has the leashes off for offense and let them roll that way. and bring the D in for the O more as Sorensen did. The next coach can get the structure tighter when they are ready to compete for playoffs but for now I would like them to maximize their offensive freedoms.

Sounds like he wants too much roster control for my liking considering how inexperienced and unproven he is at this level.
