Proposal: 2025 off season HC search - candidates

How about Trent Yawney. Will really be a good mentor for our young defenders and has learned a lot since his first go around with the Hawks.Wont cost as much and the team can still take its time working in the youngsters.

Manny Maholtra is a guy that the hawks should be interviewing for the Head Coaching job. Inside track would be the Vancouver Canucks as Manny coach the Abbotsford Canucks... go get him KD

Already 3 brief coaching terms for Tocchet, I'm not interested.
Who would want to stay there? Elias Pettersson vs JT Miller issue, Pettersson is their star center and he plays like he doesn't give a shit most of the time. Management has openly said Q. Hughes wants to play with his brothers so they're most likely trading him to NJ.

They were on their 3rd string goalie in the playoffs last year and were a game away from the WCF.

They really need an outside perspective with new ideas, someone who will help kids get better. Sorenson is not that guy. Might be hard to find but just because Carle said no and Sullivan doesn't sound like he wants to come here doesn't mean there aren't good coaches available. Can't punt on this hire and hope someone better is available down the road
Sorenson is not the long term solution but Nazar, Vlasic, EDM, Kaiser, etc absolutely got better under him and Rinzel, Moore, Knight, etc played well when they entered the picture late in the year...I rather just bring him back and peg 2025/26 as a development year than bring in a guy that thinks he has 2-3 years to win and doesn't care about development like LR

Predictions

New York Rangers- Mike Sullivan
Boston Bruins- Jay Woodcroft
Chicago Blackhawks- Marco Sturm
Vancouver Canucks- Dave Hakstol
Philidelphia Flyers- Rick Tocchet
Anaheim Ducks- Joel Quenneville
Seattle Kraken- Brad Shaw

I was reading the Ducks board and more than half of the posters there would be livid if they hired Q. I'm assuming the same sentiments are out there on twitter/whatever as well. Quenville is a real tough PR sell, it'll be interesting to see if they pull the trigger

Oiler fans were "Boycotting" team when Bowman was hired

How many empty seats did they have in Edmonton? How many are not tuning into games?

Reading that thread alot of the same debunked/false stuff was being brought up "Q wrote letter of recommendation", "He was hired by high school because Hawks didn't tell them what he did and provided positive reference", etc and again what Hawks were told at time happened vs what really happened

Duck fans can feel how they want if Q is hired but it's annoying how much false information just is taken as fact with regard to situation. Despite everything known now about what happened and how things unfolded. People really want to spin some great coverup/conspiracy with Hawks all in on it when the reality is that is not what happened

I'm quite curious about what is up with Todd Nelson and why teams haven't hired him? Not sure I would want him if there is some reasons he wasn't hired.

But he has won 3 Calder trophies in the AHL. The last 2 years too. I know that's usually with veteran rosters, but he was an assistant for Dallas when they went to the final. Only left when Deboer came, not like he was fired. Does his interm coaching the tanking for McDavid Oilers get held against him forever? It seems like a guy should have interest somewhere.

I'd rather have Sorensen back with the full understanding that he's evaluated on the development of the young players and not the PTS column and also that if any significant upgrade comes along and is interested then he will be reassigned to Rockford.

If Danny is onboard then kicking the can down the road makes a lot of sense because if they go the LR route again its just going to be a bad situation if someone becomes available that is actually a desirable candidate that you can honestly say yeah I could see 5+ years with this coach.

Sorensen can be the Rick Renteria until the foundation is in place to win now, and a Joe Maddon type hire becomes available and the roster is more appealing to draw the interest...With the way the kids were playing to end the season you have to be careful disrupting that if the candidates out there are not full 'Hell Yes' guys, and it doesn't seem like any of them are other than Sullivan and Carle

If Hawks cant find a better coach out there than Sorenson then whoever is leading the search should be fired.

I could see both sides in TB wanting change of direction

Lightning are on cusp of 3rd straight 1st round exit and team pipeline is rather weak. While they should have some more years of competitive play with this core the days of being a top contender are probably gone

Also, Florida being good team in division is something that wasn't issue during TB best days and it appears as of now Florida is deeper and has TB #

On Utah end landing top coach and hoping to take next step (Playoffs) is something understandable especially when as new team trying to build fanbase/excitement

Nazar and Vlasic developed pretty well under him, but none of the names out there right now seem like high conviction hires and thats why standing pat doesn't seem like the worst idea, the rebuild still has a year or two at least

In my opinion we have seen what Sorenson is and it is not great. Sure some players got better but that is what young players with not a lot of games under their belt do naturally as they learn the league. Good coaches are out there you just have to go find them, punting on a development year is not a good idea that is building a losing culture.
