Proposal: 2025 off season HC search - candidates

If I'm an up and coming coach I don't know that I'd want anything to do with New York, but maybe they offer him so much money he can't say no.

Am I missing why Vegas or the Floridas would be looking for a coach? All 3 of their coaches have won a cup with their teams and all three teams are playing great still.
They aren’t looking for a coach. Thats the point. We are in a honey hole where we are the only prestige franchise exiting a tank soon. Guys that shake loose and coaches will be looking hard at the Hawks. See: Howard, rumors on EP last summer, rumors on Kaprizov, they will be a big player on Bennett Marner and whoever else they want.

New York is a concern if they make some nimble smart decisions quickly. Otherwise it’s blue skies for the hawks. Ain’t nobody player or coach comparing Anaheim SJ Columbus philly to Blackhawks and coming up with anything but get to the hawks.

Now, the Hawks did get effed by the cap jump. Contenders have dough to throw around too this summer so we may have to be patient.

The only downside to Chicago is that we are the “hometown team” for very few NHLers or coaches. New York, Boston, Toronto, Minnesota, Detroit have that advantage. Carle has no ties to Chicago whatsoever for example. Marner, Boeser, Ehlers, etc.

The “why would Carle come to this dumpster fire” crew is going to have to jump to the “why would Mitch Marner come to this dumpster fire” crew and realize twice that this is a prestige franchise with deep pockets in an extremely desirable location.
The last few games seem to have improved the vibes around the team quite a bit and I wouldn’t underestimate the impact it could have on coach and free agent signings.

Ah, I gotcha now, misread what you were trying to say the first time. I agree with just about everything you’re saying.

Also that there is now a bunch of promising talent on the way. The franchise is now headed in the right direction. A coach can mold those young players.

It’s not gonna be a bunch of garbage vets phoning it in and not listening to the coach anymore.

Yeah I think it'd an extremely desirable situation actually.

Team full of young prospects from elite to depth to whatever. The most promising blue line in the league going forward. Bedard. Nazar. A bunch of very good looking forward. Goaltending in check. Assets drawer full to the top. Infinite cap space. FA destination.

He can come in and take the team to the next level and reap the awards and benefits. He gets to control who is the core how we want to play, he our franchise ascends to contention.

In a good city and an org that pays. Like what's not to like?

The quote even says 'even a rebuild'. Bad situation would be an aging team with no prospects or cap space. Yeah that's shit. We are the opposite. We have literally almost everything you'd want, it's just early for now. But as early as next year or the one after it'll be the job everyone wants.

It's a great match.

Is Carle more of an offensive or defensive mind?

Does he coach a type of game that you would compare to any current NHL coaches?

Carle family is from Alaska. I feel like Chicago is actually a decent hockey town. Maybe not Minnesota or Boston, or Toronto, but atleast on par with Detroit.

New York with all the reported dysfunction is probably not on many players or coaches lists now. Coaches because they have about 2 good years left as a contender before the floor gives out

Players because of how they treated Trouba DeHaan Goodrow Kakko and how they moved them. Goodrow they forced him to go to San Jose. Trouba they sent him the furthest possible location from where his wife is stuck working for her residency at the hospital. Players talk and I think the luster of playing for New York will die off at least while Drury is running that ship

It's obvious Hawks want him. Between Seravalli, who does in fact work for CHSN in a limited capacity, and Jay (who has connections to this organization) saying that they want him, it's a given that he's at the top of their list.

But Jay throwing a big number out like that probably means that he's heard rumblings that the feeling is mutual. Which is great to hear.

A perfect offseason for the Hawks can be narrowed down to three things, Carle, Misa, Marner. Land all three and it's an A+ offseason.

Always seemed like a forgone conclusion Sorenson would go back to Rockford. There was always going to be better coaching options this offseason and they basically just stuffed Mark Eaton in that head coach role for a few months while Sorenson was here. If they felt confident that Anders would stay here, they would've tried to get a real coach in Rockford instead of adding an additional job for Eaton.

Cheap or not, I don't like Anaheim having an open position. They are a young team with plenty of potential in a pretty exciting area to live. If ownership does crack open that wallet, it definitely could make it harder for us to get Carle.

If Carle and Sullivan choose other options and there are no other high conviction choices this year I wouldn't hate running it back with Sorensen next year and have him continue to coach the kids in what will be a development year anyway...

Probably in the minority there, but they played really well when the roster got young and wouldn't want them to force a hire and end up in another Richardson scenario where you have a coach whose expectations are completely misaligned with the long-term timeline to win

I get the sentiment for hiring David Carle but in this situation I am not sure he is ideal. We already have a roster full of inexperience, to bring in another coach without NHL head coaching experience may not be what this particular team needs. And for Carle’s sake it’s far from ideal unless its all about money, he is coming into a roster not built to win much to start. An experienced coach at the NHL level with proven success might be better in guiding all these young kids.
