Emily Kaplan on the intermission show made a lot more sense on what the Stars are looking for

She doesn't believe the big-game hunting rumors just based off Nill's history. She spoke like a Stars fan lol - said we are likely just looking for complimentary pieces. She did mention that she thinks Mavrik Bourque could be a piece the Stars dangle as trade bait. I'm still not buying that unless the Stars are getting a significant piece in return, likely one with term.

Tuch 😉

I watch a ton of Bruins games since my roommate is from Boston and a huge fan. I don’t think Carlo is that great. He’d be an upgrade to some of the guys on the roster. But, I think overpaying for him would be a bad idea. He’s just as soft as Oleksiak, especially for his size.

Looking at the various trade lists, and I think the reality is there are no big fish available. The dream catch would have been a guy like Brady Tkachuk, but the stupid Senators won enough games this season to not be interested in a major shakeup during the season.

Top Objective: Right-Side Defenseman
Ideal Fit: Brandon Carlo, Boston Bruins
Scoop: Oof. The Stars have LTIR coin to spend, but there isn’t a clear fit. The truly ideal candidate is a right-shooting defenseman who is a rental – because the real crime here was giving Matt Dumba and Ilya Lyubushkin term last summer. Neither has fit well and they’re in a tough spot. From a stylistic perspective, and even cap perspective, Carlo makes a ton of sense. But it’s the two extra years on his deal that would be really difficult for Dallas to fit. The right defense market as a whole is so thin, which is how they ended up with Cody Ceci.

I don't really get the Lyubushkin hate he's been fine.

Yeah no complains about Lyubushkin , Ceci has been fine too since the trade. Those purely defensive guys pretty much allways work out ok in DeBoers system it seems. Jani was fine here too.

Just add a depth piece on defense that plays over Smith when someone gets injured/needs rest and thats good enough on defense if there's no big fish .

A +12, so not bad. Dumba is a -3, which is frankly better than I expected, based on bad he is thrashed here. I thought he specifically looked better last night than in most games.

A broke clock is right twice a day.

Dumba is bad. He may have an okay game once in a while but he will hurt this team in the playoffs. He is just not dependable.

He has largely been fine, at least so far, I'm skeptical it'll last. but even if he's been fine so far. There's enough body of work from him to be skeptical it'll last for the whole 3yrs we gave him.

Ceci is kind of the same boat. It's been what 10games? but his body of work over the last several years, would lead you to believe he'll be a liability. More of a when not an If.

I think the big thing insulating them is that we've been rolling out Dumba and Smith, and they're both so bad, that Lyubushkin and Ceci look like Rock-Stars in comparison.

Lyubushkin, has had some especially rough games, but then there's Dumba doing even worse shit and nobody notices.
Overall though, he's been better than I expected.

I know Dumba is not good but Smith is clearly even worse. Not sure anyone will look good playing next to him . Other teams already played him as forward for the same reason we did it s a couple of times this year. He can only to very limited damage as 4th line grinder compared to the problems he causes as #6 defenseman
