Doesn't really seem like Pagnotta knows much of anything.

He mentions Jones, Karlsson, Nelson, & even Rantanen.

Also says this about Heiskanen:
Nothing is official, but word on the street suggests Heiskanen may be done for the regular-season and could also miss as much as the entire first-round of the playoffs

He also mentions Bourque as a trade piece which isn't gonna happen

Him mentioning Bourque immediately invalidates anything else he says about the Stars.

The one time we get to use the LTIR trick our players are actually badly injured and won't be back Game 1

I really do think a 2026 1st + Dumba + not-Hemming prospect might be enough to snag Jones or Karlsson

If that is the case, Nill really needs to pull that trigger. We're likely not going to have a better window than we are in now for another decade.

If that gets it done make the trade.

But I don’t get the window comment. Sure Benn and duchene are getting up there in age but there are a ton of young and upcoming guys. Window may be open for a while. Nill has built a really good young team to be very competitive for a long time. Window does not shut when Benn and crew go away.

It's Benn, Duchene, Seguin, Granlund, Marchment, and Dadonov. All these guys are going to be either worse, way more expensive, or gone by the time 2026-2027 begins. Even if Bourque and Stankoven do become legit scoring forwards and Hemming breaks in as a quality depth forward, we're looking at:

Robertson - Johnston - XXX
Stankoven - Hintz - XXX
Benn - Bourque - Seguin
Steel - Back - Hemming

That's still probably pretty good, but it's definitely a step or two below what we've got this year and next. There will be a number of holes that will have to be addressed, and the solutions may not always pan out.

You are definitely right, we are not in a position where it's do or die right now. But a lot needs to go right to maintain legitimate contender status past the 2026 offseason.

I'm trying to think ahead and think how Nill probably does.

Yeah i was gonna say - we definitely never heard anything about Karlsson not wanting to come here. From what I can recall the deal with Dallas was never really THAT close because they wanted Miro

I'm pretty sure we were a "finalist" when he was moved from Ottawa. I also recall them demanding Heiskanen and Dallas rightfully balking. This wasn't long after Nill's series of big rip offs, and I think GMs were scared of trading with him

We were interested when he was moved from San Jose too, but not as much for some reason.

Didn't they want Heiskanen AND Hintz from us? Just an insane ask and then capitulated for a weak return from SJ
