The Blackhawks have rid themselves of the cancerous blight known as Seth Jones.

Who's next?
i

43points, 58games played (21G, 22A)

2 games remain to be played before the deadline. Should Donato be held out of the lineup?

Hawks are in a bit if a lose/lose with Donato. Trading him will only get us at most a second and, unless we trade it for something for immediate help, we dont really need another pick but if we keep him, it’s clear (just like with Raddysh and Dickinson) his play should regress and I dont like committing too much money on these kind of players.

Nyquist got a 2nd

A 2nd is the bare minimum Chicago could get for Donato

Trade Donato asap.

He's good for about 15 goals a year. It's his contract year so he's producing more. I don't want to pay him 5+ mil for a handful of years just to see him revert back to what he was. He was borderline invisible last season.

I don't think getting a 1st for him is out of the realm of possibility. If not, 2 2nds.

I think two 2nds is what we'll be looking at

But Kyle needs to push for a forward prospect

Have we used all of our retention slots now?
yes

I think that KD should see if we can get a 3rd team to retain half on Donato for a 5th round DP to maximize the potential return.

I'd like to move RD at the TDL and then see if we can get him to sign a 2 year deal as a UFA in the offseason.

Not really necessary.

Basically every team in the league is able to take on Donato at his full 2M.

I don't think halving does much to boost his value since it isn't a hinderance for anyone.

Agreed it doesn't move the needle much, but if we can slightly upgrade the return for Donato I would investigate the possibility.

I think McCabe does too.
You are correct that McCabe retention ends this year.

If we trade back for Rantanen for the purpose of extending him, do we get one if our retention slots back?

So if Davidson wants young nhl or near nhl ready players here’s where we stand.

Contenders want players right now. The pieces we have that would help a contender are Murphy, Donato, and Dickinson. I think the keep Murphy, Dickinson is too risky with the injury, so we are trading Donato to a contender. Gotta hunt through rosters to find weird fitting youngsters. Matthew Savoie?

What I’m more interested in is teams entering a rebuild that would want picks for young players. Think of it as us on the other side of a Debrincat, Hagel type trade.

Teams entering rebuild: Penguins, Kraken? Islanders? Canucks? We are short on teams entering tanks. I just can’t find young players that might shake loose. The penguins have literally nothing to offer besides rutger mcgroarty? But they just acquired him.

My point is… I feel like Davidson wants young players and I think he’ll try but I just rest don’t think those deals are out there this deadline. It doesn’t feel like anyone is selling the types we might look for.

Savoie is too small. He’s a worse version of Nazar. Dickinson and Murphy both likely stay unless some team massively overpays (which is possible, the market is really bad).

Donato is tricky, but given how he’s popped and the fact that Nyqvist of all people got a second, the price is now a first at least. More even strength goals than a bunch of superstars, GMs will be creaming themselves over that.

So take the haul for Donato, and target Buffalo. They’re badly mismanaged and all kinds of names are popping up. Peterka, Cozens, Byram, Quinn. We can use prospects too since they can’t all play. That’s your best bet for a young player that fits the timeline.

Stop with this Reichel nonsense already

Glass is a soon to be 26 yr old below average 4th line C who hasn't come close to replicating his anomaly 2022-23 season which was mostly because he was playing up in lineup on a offensively challenged Preds team (his 35 pts was 6th on team scoring)

He will be RFA with high qualifying offer (His current cap hit is $2.5M) that he is not worth

Trading much younger Reichel (3 years younger) for Glass is just dumb especially with Glass poor performance and fact he is likely to find himself on 4th team of his career soon. There is a reason Vegas, Preds and soon Penguins move on from him

As for first trade it makes no sense for TB to give away Geekie for a pending UFA rental and a goalie. They have on of the top goalies in NHL in net and if they want to upgrade at #2 before playoffs there are options all over league they could trade for at cheap
