Nice angle on how Pionk manipulated the defender to get the shot off. But man in another video I saw the shot was way off but the bounce off a player made everything work.
Not his fault Brayden Schenn is a moron. All he had to do was eat the puck in the corner instead of making a blind backhand pass right into the slot with 3 seconds left ...

I just want good hockey. Both game 7's were awesome from a pure hockey perspective.
I still miss the Whalers. Never shoulda changed it ... Carolina had whaling back in the day too. Instead they thought flushing a toilet was cooler. Dumbasses.
The other mistake was going for the open net earlier, when a simple flip out or skating it out would have killed another 10-20 seconds. I know the percentages say to go for the empty net, but that's over a large sample size, which can't account for every circumstance. He had time and space, and gobs of open ice to dump it to or to even skate it out a bit.
Especially with a two-goal lead, the sure thing of burning extra time is probably worth more than the risk of icing the puck shooting at an empty net. Obviously a goal puts the game away, but 15 seconds is huge in that scenario.

Yeah, I wonder if teams/coaches have ever really run through different scenarios on those situations, ie. when to go for it and when not to. I kind of feel like since teams have mostly adopted the "shoot for it every time you have a chance" strategy, there's a lot more games where it doesn't go down to the wire since the game is effectively ended earlier ... but also a higher frequency of successful comebacks too, because you effectively give the trailing team more time. I have no data on that though, just how it kind of feels.
I think the closer you get to the end, killing time becomes more important. Eliminating 15 out of 45 remaining seconds takes away a third of their remaining opportunity (with a corresponding drop in their likelihood of scoring a goal), as opposed to an identical clear with 2 minutes left. And a brief tie-up probably makes the most sense in the last few seconds vs. an iffy clear attempt.

Scoring the EN is probably a flat line across based on S% from a particular spot, so the question is where's the crossover point time wise?

Not excusing Florida but anyone remember what other fans teams thought of the 07 playoffs Ducks team. From Brad May sucker punching a Minnesota Wild in the back of the head(3 game suspension), to Rob Nieds elbowing Hansen in the head to free up the puck to his brother who scores the OT series clincher, to Pronger n Rob Nieds tag team hitting Holmstrom into the boards, to Pronger elbowing an Ottawa Senator in the finals.

Games changed a lot in 2 decades. Can’t imagine what Pronger would have gotten as a repeat offender for the McAmmond hit in the Cup final.
Also, you can’t deny that as awesome as those teams were—and I adore them—that they shaped the reputation from this dumbass league. We’re still paying for the sins of the past all these years later

wasn't that 09 after the game 6 win against detroit in the semis? they both dropped the gloves after too, which was a very odd sight

It's like the Refs still think Pronger is on the Ducks and still think Getzlaf is captain yelling at the refs ears and Perry still crashing into goalies.
It's been a long long time since a duck was suspended for being dirty but they called for an unfair amount of penalties while the other teams can get away with too much. I think Cogliano was the last Duck suspended ? So previous decade and the Refs still hate the Ducks.
The stuff Scott Steven's did to Kariya is why I'm ok with that 07 Ducks team being dirty, the league did nothing to change then, so why not become mean and physical like the team that beat you.
I don't care if Steven's played within the rules in his era, he knew he was hurting people quite badly and he was happy to do it anyways. What happened to Crosby finally got the league to do something. It took them that long.

Taking a step back from which team I like and don’t like, there is a big difference between over the line hits and taking out the opposing goalie. Goalies can make or break a cup run.
If Kronwall takes Giguere out in the first game of the 2007 series, do we get the Selanne winning goal. And if we do, is it just a great game winning goal in a losing series and not iconic. Ducks fans would be irate, especially with no punishment.
Granted Stolarz is not Giguere and Bryzgalov did step up against the Wild. But there is also a good chance we have no banner.

I get your point, but with how Bryz was playing, we could have ridden him to the Cup too. Thats why he got paid what he did after that. Leafs dont have anywhere close to what our goalie tandem was. Not many teams do.

Oh, absolutely. We would have physically destroyed whoever touched Jiggy. With that teams make up, probably wouldnt be the smartest idea.
Brad May would have thrown Bennett into the second deck.

2007 was a completely different time and game compared to now

I know its not the same, unfortunately, but I think with true Cup contenders you see some of that old school physicality and toughness. Not every player willing to go, but when you look at teams like the Panthers, youve got your mix of Perry types, Pronger types and your Selannes.
Thats why these cheap shots and stuff dont phase me. Its playoff hockey. When we were at our best, we pulled the same stuff.
