2025 NHL Playoffs

Kind of crazy Getzlaf still has 22 more playoff games then Kopitar and 24 more then Doughty, and Getz last played a playoff game 7 years ago.

Just kind of goes to show that:
a) We had a ton of deep playoff runs and it's pretty frustrating we only came out of it with one Cup
b) Outside of the 2012-2014 playoffs, the Kings have been perennial playoff losers being bounced in the first round on a regular basis. Take out the 2012-2014 playoffs, and the Kings last first round playoff win was beating the Red Wings in 2001.

My favourite is that Montreal has won a Western Conference playoff series more recently then the Kings
ducks should have won it all in 2015. that was their best chance and they pissed it away

Andersen just wasn't up to snuff as a goalie for a Cup winner. Never felt safe with him in net.

Meh. He was good enough to win a Cup. The team in front of him just choked. Just like they did with Gibson in net the previous year against the Kings. Just like they did the year before that with Hiller in net against the Wings. And 2017 against Nashville with Gibson/Emery.

Adin Hill won a Cup. Skinner was a win away. Niemi won a Cup. Matt Murray won 2. You don't need a great goalie if the 18 skaters do their job.

Don't sleep on STL.

I like what St. Louis is building but they're too inexperienced and don't have the bonafide studs up front it would take against teams like Dallas and Colorado. Thomas is great but the 2C spot is a serious weak spot.

I hate the "he's not clutch" narrative. It's usually just small sample size garbage. But it's getting hard to ignore for Hellebuyck. He's shook.

To be fair the roster in front of him is a paper tiger. He definitely needs to be better nonetheless given all the individual accolades.

While I don't disagree about the team in front of him, he's likely to win the Vezina this year. If you are the best goalie in the league, you should be able to steal some games. He's about to get yanked from a third game and this is only game 6. That's wild.

Niederreiter and Fowler with Goals. I remember thinking in June 2010 that the Ducks are missing out on Nino and Cam but then a bunch of teams put their heads in the sand and Fowler fell to the Ducks.

In hindsight Kuznetsov would have been the perfect 2C behind Getzlaf but I am happy they picked Cam.
He ranks in 2 in games played, 12 in total points and 1st in Dmen points from the 2010 draft class !

Best goaltender in the league until the playoffs start. Great regular season goaltender, terrible playoff goaltender. Even Game 5, Winnipeg wins in spite of Hellebuyck, not because of him, just some terrible rebound control.

To put it in perspective, in his last 15 playoff games, he's had two games above .900sv% and given up 4+ goals in 10 of those games.

I'd take Oettinger, Bob, Vasi, Hill, Shesterkin over Hellebuyck at the moment tbh.
Make that two of his last 16 playoff games now above. 900sv%and 11th playoff game in last 16 conceding 4+ goals.

Winnipeg are doomed with him in net.

Not every year was down to the goalie letting them down, sure. But in 2015 it absolutely was.

You can have a great team, but winning is never certain in hockey, and even more uncertain when you don't get high level goaltending. It's like winning in baseball without great pitching ... it can be done, but you're more vulnerable to upsets, or to getting edged out in a close series.

In the final 4 games of that Hawks series, he gave up 4+ goals in every game. Many of those goals were of the can't-let-that-in variety.

I don't think Freddie has ever had even one year where he played at a Cup winning level. By and large he's played behind some really good teams over the years, and frankly he's often been the weak link. He's never really awful mind you, but too often he's been the 2nd best goalie in a series. He doesn't seem to come up with THE save when you need it, and he also seems to give up at least a few ill-timed so-so goals a series, often at bad times.

Evgeni Nabokov always stood out to me as being uninspiring in the playoffs but I never felt he was like fighting something, he just was kind of a small game goalie.

With Helly, it almost looks like a mental block or something, like a golfer or hitter that has the yips. I feel for him, but if he can get that fixed, he might be incredible suddenly one year.
