2025 NHL Playoffs

I don't think it's a shoo-in that Gibson goes to Edmonton, but it boggles the mind that the Oilers keep thinking they can outscore their problems with Dumb and Dumber in goal.
Speaking of, Jim Carey would be an upgrade in goal right now. As would Jim Carrey, for that matter.

Reactions: Ducks DVM
Didn’t realize that Edmonton has less than $10M in cap space for next season, and that’s before signing Bouchard. It would be pretty tough for them to fit Gibson in. They probably have to dump Kane somewhere.

Skinner would have to come back to the Ducks in any such trade possibly along with a guy like Arvidsson. Net cost to Edmonton (cap-wise) would be roughly zero.

Edmonton has a limited prospect pool. No first in 2026. They’d want Gibson at max retention and include Skinner. Arvidsson has a NTC. No physical RHD, and only RC Sam O’reily and LW/LC Clattenburg look intersting. But I think it might be the right thing to do moving on if nothing else is available. Only Hurricanes might be looking for a goalie but they are an analytics team and probably doesn’t want to spend in goal. Gibson might not want the pressure of McDavid potentially final season with the oilers and playing in Canada.

All of your points are correct. The ongoing unknown is any agreement that Verbeek and Gibson have with each other regarding a trade. All things being equal, Gibson is probably worth more to the Ducks if he wants to stay than what they'll get in a trade. But if he wants a trade...

Oilers only have two assets in my mind worth pursuing - Sam O'Reilly and their '27 1st. I love O'Reilly as a future 3C. The 27 1st could be a gold mine though if McDavid leaves after next year. Skinner would be coming back of course. Arvidsson would need to waive and he might. If he does then no retention. If he doesn't I'd hate to give retention b/c that would leave the Ducks with only one spot at next year's TDL. That said, probably only Gudas gets traded next TDL if the Ducks are out of the playoff picture so maybe it's no big a deal.

Going to be an interesting summer.

Oilers would likely protect that 2027 1st. I also would prefer Skinner and Arvidsson over any retention. Even if Arvidsson is small and regressing with injury concerns you have to like how he competes. He could be a good complementary vet that reminds me of Steve Thomas and how he mentored our young forwards and created offensive chemistry.

I was eyeing O’reilly as a duck target at the draft, he seemed like our type. He looks like a solid and safe prospect that can complement our group. Watching these nasty playoff games makes me want to add Clattenburg too. He might be the most physical prospect that they have. You can never have enough of that… I mean look at our castoff like Benoit getting todays game winner.

would absolutely do that, but I dont think he's interested in signing an offer sheet nor do I think Toronto would move him.
I would too and suggested it. I think paying him dumb money like 8/9+ million per is still less risky than a massive overpay for a perimeter player in Marner and I think having a skillful and powerful player playing on the inside will really give time and space for creative guys like Z. But folks here think there is too much risk of missing out on a shot at McKenna… but I’m tired of waiting and endless draft hyping…

At least we got Biakubutuka and a 27 2nd.
In fairness to Verbeek, Fowler did the Ducks no favors by catering his value with his putrid play before the trade. The alternative was to hold on to him and that would have been utterly toxic IMO.

A potentially cautionary tale for what might happen in a Zegras trade where the Ducks sell low. But like with Fowler, it may be that the relationship is already too toxic to salvage. We'll know in a couple of months if not sooner.

Do you really think Cam was dogging it, or was the Cronin effect hampering his play like anybody else on the team? For all the frustration I’ve felt towards him over the years, I’ve never doubted his sincerity to give his best.

I don’t know the cause but I could clearly see the result.

mix of both. giving him heavy minutes in a 1D role certainly didn't help
