Didn’t see a thread yet, and the Draft is in a week’s time now. We have a third (pick 83) from the Holloway offer sheet as well as our sixth (191) and seventh (223) round picks. Of course, there’s a possibility that we acquire more picks between now and then, too.

Any prospects that stand could be possibilities for our third round pick?

I think that "Hockey's Future" was a huge angle for the Oilers from 2000-2020, maybe even as late as 2022, but from 2023-2025 this is "the future" we were hoping for that whole time.

Our prospects cupboard isn't the envy of the league anymore, we probably have the least & lowest draft picks of any team ever this year, and our rookies aren't anything special...

Now we have top 5 players in the world (plural), national-team level defencemen, and elite free agents want to come here...

This forum is still busy because people are obviously staying here after being here for years, even decades, but the topic of our upcoming prospects is not exciting. It's actually bleak.

I used to come here probably 20 years ago: I lost my old username and I can't log in with it anymore (Oi'll say! - the world's biggest Hemsky critic), but I was coming to this forum back when the Oilers were routinely out of the playoffs by January first, and realistically done by mid-November. All we had to talk about back then was the new crop of hopefuls.

Now it's a cup-or-failure team. The draft thread is not what the Oilers are about right now.

This is a good draft for goaltenders so i hope they use one of their picks on a goalie even if it's in the later rounds.
I like Lucas Beckman or Alexei Medvedev a lot if they're considering another goalie in the 3rd round. Hoping they can get some additional picks moving Kane, Arvy and Henrique.

I was thinking in the 6th or 7th there's a bunch of guys who offer tremendous value.

Couple of names i was looking at in that range.

- Gabriel D'Aigle (Victoriaville - QMJHL)
- Jayden Kraus (Victoria - WHL)
- Ben Hrebik (Sarnia - OHL)

I just hope they draft high-skill players in every round and/or trade picks for immediate help. I'd be open to them trading the 3rd for more picks (e.g., a 4th and a 5th round pick)

We know they won’t do that, this team still has an obsession over older and/or low-ceiling kids like Berry, Sundin and Clattenberg for the most part. I believe Nicholl only fell into our laps because they were interviewing Hunter and he talked him up big-time.

No, I fully expect it will be an overager like Aiden Long, who is under a PPG at age 20 in the USHL but has gud intangibles. Or they take a massive left-handed D like Skvortsov way ahead of where he should be and pat themselves on the back for being so smart while continuing to overstock the leftorium. Making good mid-round picks is not in this team’s DNA, we just don’t do it and haven’t since Barry Fraser moved to Mexico.

They should trade the third for someone's third and fourth next year, for trade deadline. Someone may want to buy that year of development time for their 3-7 year plans as third+ is 3 years out minimum for 99%.

Hopefully we can get a few picks back if we end up trading Kane and or Arvidsson.

I know it sounds counter intuitive sometimes but if you can recoup picks but then getting some value in free agency it can really help with the longevity of a teams success.

Not a great draft for impact players but lots of guys who could become decent depth players.

Would be nice to trade Arvdisson and Kane for picks. Restock some draft picks and go into free agency with an extra 9 million.

Solid idea. What do you think is best case we could get for both?

I feel like he’s going to fall into the zone where he’d be a reach in the 3rd and gone by the 6th but if they can snag a pick in the 4th or 5th I’d love them to look in their own back yard and grab Lukas Sawchyn from the Oil Kings. Really liked how he progressed his first year in the WHL.

I'd be interested in Bauer Berry's Muskegon teammate, Ivan Rybakin. He escaped/was dismissed the Russian federation and made the long rumoured move to the Lumberjacks, where his goal scoring and approach to taking the body were on display.

Considered a 1st round talent but knocks on fitness, attitude (laziness), still a Russian factor, and poor interviews have pundits pegging him to fall, possibly into mid round consideration.

If he's there in the 3rd I'd take the swing if the board looks barren. I'd be interested in a bunch of defensemen if they don't all dry up in the 2nd.
