Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

I was about to give you some shit.

Like okay Jackson / mrtka / Matthew all 3 go top 9, then Martin + Mcqueen before us, that leaves for 4 spots ….. Misa / Frondell / Desoyners / Martone / Hagens

But then you mentioned Buium and you’re not wrong.
Dmen always seem to fly under the radar until draft night... usually 1 or 2 dmen go in the top 10 that wernt maybe expected.

Centers might be heavy also, as a lot of teams in the top 10 this year need them.... itll be interesting to see how it falls for us, but i think were going to have a very good player available at 10 for us.

Desnoyers falling to #10 would be like Cam falling to #12. That would be the greatest thing ever.
He would have to get past Boston, Utah, Philly, Nashville.

There is 100% 1 of(didn’t list the lhd)
Eklund
Mcqueen
Martin
Mrtka
Bear

Then you got the reach picks with potential like
Lakovic
Nesbitt

The draft is so forward-heavy that you can't go wrong here.

O'Brien or McQueen would be something. One is a talented playmaker, and the other one can be a power forward center. Imagine having a top-9 of Carlsson, O'Brien/McQueen, McTavish, Gaucher? interchangeable of course

the more i watch mcqueen, the more i get the vibe that he's a guy who has only had success thus far due to his size and once he starts playing against guys who are just as big and stronger than him, he'll struggle. throw in the injuries, and i'd prefer they stay away from him

Are there specific things you notice in his game that give you that vibe?
Any comps we can look at to see if any patterns emerge ?
Or do you just not want to draft him and look at his game thru a lens that will show you what you want to see ?
And that’s okay, if you just don’t want to draft him, this isn’t a gotcha moment, but an honest assessment, I can see things that look great because I like something, just like I can see things that look terrible because I don’t like something.

First player I'm gonna focus on and watch more of: Logan Hensler RD NCAA. Decent size at 6'2 / 190-200 with good skating, more of a two way defenseman. Trying to find a comparable but funny enough might be Tom Willander just going by recent college defenseman. Hensler is playing on a much worse team though

This is with my current expectation that Mrtka will not be available and if the Ducks really like this player, may reach a little for him.

he's not a good skater, which is why i mentioned that i feel he's mostly had success so far due to his size. but his back injury scares me more than anything. at this point, it's not worth risking a 1st round pick on a guy who could be plagued with back problems

if you want size up front, lakovic is who i would prefer

10-4 thank you. From what I heard his back injury was more just a thing that happens when young teenagers hit growth spurts and shouldn’t be long term. But if that’s the case and the medical check out I bet he doesn’t make it to 10.

Martin, Eklund, or Lakovic seem like the obvious choices in our range

I’m not very high on the dmen (aside from Schaefer obviously) this year
I think i agree with those 3

But id be okay with Mrtka added.

Pending someone we dont expect falling to us (like a fowler situation)

Wasnt Hensler seen as a potential top 10 pick at 1 point? (early lists)

Central Scouting has Hensler (#12) ranked above Jackson Smith (#13). I just don't know if Verbeek will selected a collegian or bound collegian in his first four rounds because he's been avoiding those players for the past three drafts.

As for Willander comp, I think Willander is better because he knows what he wants to do. Hensler, from reading reports, has all the top-end tools, but is timid about taking that next step. I'd rather trade our #10 for Willander than to draft Hensler. Verbeek does trade for collegians ready to make the pro jump.

If it was between picking Hensler with the pick or using it to get Willander I would probably choose Willander as well. Hensler is more of an unknown but I do think if his team gets better or he transfers, he will look better in those areas

I agree. That's why I didn't want Kukkonen to transfer to Wisconsin, he should have went to Western Michigan to regain that "scoring touch". Hensler's tools definitely can transfer to the NHL level, but he just doesn't know what kind of defenseman he wants to be due to the fact his tools are top-end and coaches can put him in any situation.

I think Hensler will need all four seasons in college to figure out just how good he can be. Although, I did read that he's often the youngest on his teams (Pronman, maybe?). His first season in the NCAA might have been a tougher jump for him. He could been a boon for a team who drafts him and he finally explodes in a good way in his sophomre season. It's kinda difficult to gauge players when you could be the youngest in the NCAA, but if you're in the CHL, you're playing mostly amongst your peers.

If only Mrtka could drop to 10 to us, but I can see Madden in love with Hensler's tools and believe Hensler could be BPA in the future.
