Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

The more I think about it, the more I believe that Mrtka will be gone before #10. Regardless of the rankings, it's pretty rare that only 1 dman gets taken in the first 9 picks (for all I know it's never happened). Then you have the fact that Mrtka is huge AND right-handed. Someone will pick him before he gets to us. I also feel similarly about McQueen, somebody is going to take a chance on the package he offers.

My gut says Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Martone, Frondell, Desnoyers, McQueen, and Mrtka will probably be gone before our pick. So we could pick between guys like O'Brien, Eklund, Martin, Smith, Aitcheson, and Lakovic, to name a few.

I think the odds just went way up that Seattle take Smith at 8OA and Buffalo takes Mrtka at 9OA.
Agreed. I already expected atleast 1 of them to go in the top 10 but now it is way more likely that they both do.

Honestly, because of the lottery I feel like it is decently easy to mock.
The top 2 are obvious, I think Chicago takes Martone, then 4 centers in a row.
Seattle and Buffalo are most likely to take a defensemen.

Leaving 1 of the centers, most likely McQueen, and Eklund.

I'll be very happy with Eklund at 10 lol.

SJ needs a 1D more than 1C, NYI could swap with them for a pick and Misa is a better fit for NYI based on Barzals injuries and they already got Dobson as PP QB.

Yeah, after thinking about it a bit I don't think moving down the 2 spots was the disaster that it might have seen at first. Teams like Chicago, Nashville, Boston, Philly, and Seattle were way more impacted than the Ducks IMO.

NYI will take the BPA on their board. More than likely that is Schaefer. And he's a LD so he would complement Dobson nicely.

Ya if I’m San Jose im offering whatever islanders need to move up to get shaefer

I think Mrtka and Jackson could go in top 10… hopefully that leaves potentially McQueen/eklund/martin/bear as options for us

Yup. Boston probably got screwed the worst. Went from Hagens/Martone/Desnoyers to O'Brien being the best available at center.

Lakovic would be my pick if no one drops to us
Having a top 9 in 3-4 years of

Cutter 6’2” / Leo 6’3” / Sennecke 6’4”
Lakovic 6’4” / McT 6’1” / Colangelo 6’2”
Sidorov 6’ / Zegras 6’ / Terry 6’

Barring pasta / Myatovic / Galimov / Nesty making the jump at LW over Sidorov.

With a 4th line of Gaucher 6’3” / Washe 6’3” / ?

Is really enticing.

Don't forget Traff on the 3/4 line...6'3"

So who are the options at 10? I think it will be between two of these three:

Martin - I think he might not make it to us… but he looks like our type. Positionally versatile, high compete, someone we can mix in with who we currently have.

McQueen - injury concerns likely drops him to us.

Eklund - he may fall due to being small and not being a center like his brother, similar to how Zach Benson fell.

It would be interesting to see a poll of who the consensus player would be from these three.

I guess the advantage is we're not necessarily looking for our future cornerstone dude, so the difference between 8 and 10 is minimal. A team who desperately needs that young stud C, every spot matters.

Martin could still make it to the Ducks.
Boston needs a top6 6'2 playmaking Center so O'Brien won't make it past them but also likely Philly picks him before them.
Seattle and Buffalo probably go D so that means Smith and Mrtka in top 10. So Eklund and Martin could be there.

I think Chicago taking Desnoyers would allow them to move Bedard to Wing and carry the weight defensively on his line like the Toews/Kane days.

Schaefer
Misa
Martone
Hagens
Frondell
Desnoyers

These guys seem to be locks in some order for the top 6. I think Mrtka goes before 10, 6'6" RHD is going to be too enticing for someone to pass on. That leaves 2 more picks before us. Any of the following could be the next two:
McQueen (highest potential, highest injury risk)
Eklund (smallest guy, size tends to matter)
Smith (only if scouts think he's clear BPA)
O'Brien (late riser?)
Martin (most physical)

That means we have a choice of at least 3 of those guys. Hopefully Smith is taken, don't need a LHD and that leaves am extra forward available. My guess is McQueen and O'Brien are the ones taken, leaves Eklund and Martin and Ducks take physicality over higher offensive upside Eklund.

I think that’s the consensus right now regarding the top 6 and at least one other dman in the top 10, and RHD normally get picked early.

Martin is getting a lot of love right now, maybe a Ryan Leonard type who went 8th so I don’t think we will make it to us. Obrien is a 6’2 skilled center so those are normally gobbled up. My guess we will be choosing btw Eklund or McQueen? Both seem to be falling on draft boards though, and we normally like late risers. What if we went off board… Lakovic, Bear? Unfortunately we dropped two spots… Verbeek sounded like they were planning on being inside the top 8.

1. NYI. Schaffer

2. SJ. Misa

3. Chi. Martone.

4. Utah. Hagens.

5. Nashville. Frondell.

6. Philly. Caleb D.

7. Boston. Obrien.

8. Seatle. Smith/Mrtka/Mqueen. Searrle needs D

9. Buffalo. Mrtka/ McQueen. Buffalo needs a RD. If not Mrtka, I could see Martin or Mqueen here.

10. Ducks. Eklund/ Mqueen.

I think this is very realistic when factoring in team needs.

What do you think ?

It's as good as anything else we'll see over the next seven weeks. The only thing I know for sure is that the top six on your list will be gone by pick 10. Martin looks like he'll be gone as well at this rate. Beyond those seven, the next tier has about 7-8 players in it. The Ducks will almost certainly choose one of them unless they decide to go way off the board. Focus on those 7-8 and pick your favorite 2 or 3...then prepare to be disappointed.
