Jake O'Brien might be the GOAT, but that is one boring name. And because of that—and that alone—he's on my "do not draft" list.

Talking about O'Brien, I watched one scouting video on youtube where the commentator said that O'Brien's vision and passing reminded him so much of Zegras. Oh... and O'Brien shoots right.

Maybe if we give him a nickname like Jake "the snake" O'Brien? Although, it seems like every Jake seems to have that same nickname of "the snake". Hmmm... so Radim Mrtka it is!

A lot of videos I watch on Jake give a Robert Thomas comparable.

I personally wouldn’t trade our 1st unless it’s for an elite player

There’s just too much risk trading a top 10 pick even in a “weak draft”.

Yes, the cap is going to rise but it’s still a hard cap league and we’re still going to need guys on ELC’s who can help us win games 3 years from now

Pens SHOULD pass us in the standings. They're only 2 back with 2 games against the Hawks and 1 against the Bruins. Philly is 3 points back with their easiest games being Isles, Jackets, and Sabers... possible but doubtful. Buffalo has a game in hand and their easiest games are Bruins, Jackets, and Flyers and are 4 back.

8th is a realistic spot to draft, 9th and 10th are probably the next most possible.

This is why I don't think we take O'Brien

Things are getting tighter and interesting around the Ducks to close out the season. In bolded and gold highlights are weak teams or teams that have been on a downward spiral in their last 10 games.

Anaheim's final games: Edmonton*, Calgary, LA, Colorado, Minny, Winnipeg
.... * = we are 2-1-0 vs Edmonton

NYI's final games: Washington, NYR, Philly, NJ, Washington, Columbus
Pitt's final games: Chicago x2 (back to back), NJ, Boston, and Washington
Buffalo's final games: Boston, Carolina, Columbus, Florida, TB, Toronto, and Philly

Flyers are also a chance to pass us.

Its going to get tight in the stretch home but I see us dropping 1-2 spots. Hopefully we get a pick that can get one of the C in the top 8.

But the last time the Ducks drafted an O'Brien(Shane in 03) they eventually traded him in their cup winning year in 2007. So if the Ducks draft Jake O'Brien and trade him in 4 years maybe they'll win the cup in 2029 ?

Big day for the tank today.

Need CBJ, NYI, Detroit, Penguins to win

Buffalo plays Boston - 3 point game there would be great

Just wrapped up my picks for our second of three mocks. Definitely can still see what the pundits are saying about this class lacking depth, but starting to come across more guys outside the top end who look interesting.

Ended up with the #8 pick, and the top seven were Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens, Frondell, Desnoyers, Mrtka. For me that left a decision between O'Brien, McQueen and Eklund. I was very split, really wanted to go with McQueen but I don't know what to make of the injury.

1-8- RC Jake O'Brien
2-54- RW Mason West Mason West - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

3-72- RC Hayden Paupanekis Hayden Paupanekis - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
Big body right handed center with a good motor for his size and intriguing pro traits. Healthy bump up in production from year one to year two. Reminded me of the Procyzsyn pick, a good can to keep kicking. I could see round two for this guy in this draft.

3-87- RW William Belle William Belle - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

I grabbed Belle in the last mock as well, other than lack of offense I like everything I see and read. Every report talks about him being a wrecking ball, 6'4 winger with good speed and he's looking to play the body constantly.

4-104- RD Carlos Handel Carlos Händel - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

Another prospect I grabbed in the last mock. Right shot D with pro size and really high end feet. Skating looked to be among the very best at the WJC.

5-136- LW Brandon Gorzynski Brandon Gorzynski - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

Another bigger body from the WHL with traits that would be described as pro style (ie high floor). He's fast and maximizes his speed with a relentless motor. The reports seem to get more glowing as the year went on, and he more than quadrupled his production from his rookie year. I'm thinking this is more of a round two/three profile in this draft.

5-150- G Burke Hood Burke Hood - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

A big athletic goalie who has been making some waves with his play in the WHL over the second half. Up to round three on Mckeen's latest list, that seems about right.

6-168- RD Everett Baldwin Everett Baldwin - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

Right shot prep Dman who has seen time with the USNTDP and Cedar Rapids (USHL). Again he's someone Mckeen's has bumped up to their third round. From all accounts an elite skater who is entirely raw overall.

7-200- RD Eduard Bondar Eduard Bondar - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

A huge Russian righty D playing in the Q who really wasn't on my radar until yesterday. Mckeen's has him just inside the top 100 and that seems about right. He seems like a project but with big defensive potential, described as a "formidable rush defender"

Belle in round three please

why not round two?

I won't be upset if we used the late second on him or be surprised if someone takes him top 60, but he seems like more of a middle round type guy. Hasn't really shown the upside to be more than a grinder but could be one of those grinders who ends up making a name for himself. It would definitely be nice to have another guy in the system who is known for being miserable to play against

I agree...but given Verbeek's propensity to draft exactly those types of players too high (Gaucher, Myatovic, Pitre, etc) I can see them taking him with Edmonton's 2nd which is going to be in the mid-50s.

Ducks are likely to be facing an Edmonton team w/o McDavid and Drai so that could be a win. And beware of the Minny and Winnipeg games at the end...those teams could be resting players (Winnipeg for sure and Minnesota if they've clinched). Calgary, LA, and Colorado are going to be legitimately tough games. All that said, I'm not really cheering for Ducks losses at this point...if they move up in the draft I'd rather it be b/c the teams below them win most of their remaining games.

Misa missed game five due to injury and Saginaw was eliminated by Erie. Plenty of talk that he was playing hurt most of the series and that would explain why he was suddenly not taking faceoffs. We'll see if he's able to go for a Canada at the U18s.

Erie moving on gives Schaefer and our prospect Terrance more runway to still return from their injuries.
