Prospect Info: 2025 NHL Entry Draft

It's normally safer to keep the pick. What players are on the table that could make an instant and long-term impact?

Peterka would be an impact player and a cheaper option over Marner, but the Sabres (Anaheim of the East) don't want more picks and are in the same situation as us. Minny wouldn't trade Rossi for a pick either.

Maybe Ramus Andersson if Calgary can't extend him, and if they planned to go after UFA defensemen? But is he worth it with one year remaining if we can't extend him?

Devils noted that they will make some big changes. Maybe we can obtain RH Mercer or RHD Nemec but would need to either eat a bad contract like Palat, or package a good prospect to include riskier contracts in Meier or Hamilton. Meier would give us a power forward and Hamilton could help our PP though. A Mercer/Hamilton would probably cost us quite a bit unless they just want to unload Hamilton's contract.

Lightning might want cap flexibility and cheap young contracts in return too. Isaac Howard + Cernak/Cirelli/Paul? Would probably need the 1st + someone like Zellweger in return.
Good post. NJ isn’t looking for picks either. Their window is now. Howard isn’t worth 10OA IMO.

Trading top 10 picks don't happen that often and if you look at the ones that were moved for a player, the majority of the time it didn't work out too well for the team trading the pick.

We expect this to be the last top 10 pick for the next decade. There will be a lot of time to trade picks for players. Lets try to get another core piece.

Edit: this obviously changes if a perfect situation arises, but I haven't seen that in this thread.

I don't care that much which player they take 10th overall, because I believe Ducks will get a pretty good prospect anyway. But I hope that Madden picks later rounds at least a couple meaner and grittier players, because Ducks - just like Gulls - are pretty soft team now.

The Gulls need more talent than they do meaner and grittier players. San Diego has C Gaucher and RW Caulfield as the grittier players. Add a scoring winger to that duo and it's a chef's kiss because the duo brings the hammer and the scoring winger provides the sniping. Anaheim did add two destructive defensemen at the end of the season for San Diego with LD's Solberg and Konnor Smith. We are still developing RD Warren, but his focus is learning to play defense at the pro level first.

Anaheim had the Gulls' top two scorers up with the NHL club for long periods of time in Harkins and Colangelo. In only 40 AHL games, Colangelo still led the Gulls in goal scoring with 22 goals. Colangelo may not be with the Gulls moving forward.

With the additions of LD Solberg and RD Moore, the Gulls add talent to their top-4D in addition to RD Luneau. That is a huge boost of talent level, but they're still rookies. The Gulls need more scoring from their forwards group too, but they also need to stop losing scoring by allowing yet another veteran scoring forward to move on from the org. The org needs to keep Bailey.

I think what can help the Gulls the most is the return of Suchanek in net.

I've had him in Hagens/Martone tier for a while. He just seems like a dream 2C. Imagine a world where we get him and he is our 3C. He would have so many matchup advantages it would be wild.

Edit: I would say there is no chance he makes it to us. even if we stayed at 8. No way he makes it past Philly, Boston, or Nashville.

Yeah I can't see him getting out of the top 4-6 range

I meant in terms of play style and potential.

I remember Gaucher was seen as a middle 6 Center prospect with physicality.
Gaucher was always a defence-first guy, with very limited offensive potential.
Martin has already produced at a way higher PPG pace than Gaucher ever has at a relatively more difficult league. As Q I think have a larger amount of really bad teams where some players stack up their stats.

Martin has his own question marks (weather that frame can support his playstile in the pros) but those are 2 pretty different situations, imo.

I think I have my top 10 nailed down now.

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Martone
4. Frondell
5. McQueen (assuming he passes medical)
6. Hagens
7. O'Brien
8. Desnoyers
9. Eklund
10. Lakovic

Just for fun. Im fine with anyone on this list this year, lower chance of being disappointed. Eklund>Frondell imo.

1. Schaefer
2. Misa

3. Martone
4. Hagens
5. Desnoyers
6. McQueen
7. O'Brien

8. Eklund
9. Martin
10. Mrtka

How I think it goes. Chicago can finally move Bedard off Center and have Desnoyers feeding him the puck and carrying him defensively like Toews did with Kane.

1. Schaefer
2. Misa

3. Desnoyers
4. Martone - Utah wants size cause they got small guys like Keller/Cooley.
5. Hagens - Nash wants highest offensive guy here.
6. Frondell - Philly wants a center
7. O'Brien - Boston gets its big playmaking Center to pair with Pastrnak.

8. Smith - Seattle goes for a D
9. Mrtka - Buffalo too
10. Martin - Anaheim selects Martin. Martin Madden laughs that he finally got to select a Martin.
11. Eklund - Pitt is scared of McQueen and takes the higher scorer anyways.

12. McQueen - NYR willing to gamble, GM believes they are playoff team next year that can take the risk on him anyways.
13. Bear - Detroit visibly upset they missed on McQueen picks Bear
14. Lakovic - More size for Columbus, insurance if Lindstrom busts i guess.
15. Aitcheson - Vancouver picks a Dman, must plan if Hughes wants out.
16. Carbonneau - MTL picking the French RW what a shocker.

Who do you take at 10 if Martin isn’t there? Assume that everything goes as you expect except that Martin goes 8 instead of smith.

What is the background on Lakovic ? I can't find much info on him but some people think he is a possibility at #10. Is he Martone's consolation prize at power forward in this draft ?
I posted some scouting reports on him last week in this thread. I would be characterize him as a poor man's Sennecke on LW. Tall and lanky, still growing into his body, but a good skater with an array of offensive tools. Not very physical yet and inconsistent. He didn't have much help in Moose Jaw this year but was still on a 40-40 pace if he had played the whole season (he missed a month or two with an injury). To me he seems like a Madden/Verbeek pick...great size with a high ceiling but is still developing.

Thanks.

I’m 100% assuming that Martin is gone by pick 10.
I can see Martin going early, but I think Seattle probably goes dmen. They have wright, catton, beniers…. And have really gone heavy forward early in most of their drafts…. I think they are in a good spot to get 2nd best dmen in draft.

If 2 men go before us and after shaefer…. And someone goes Martin/mcqueen…. Doesn’t that hypothetically leave us 1 of Frondell/o Brian
I don't disagree...but I think Martin will be taken by Philly or Boston. I have no idea what Seattle will do; they could go in any direction. But in the unlikely event that Philly, Boston, and Seattle all pass on Martin I think Buffalo would jump all over him. It is just impossible to watch what Bennett is doing in Florida and not want to draft Martin to do the same in a few years. And Buffalo has memories of Mike Peca who is another comparable to Martin. I'm sold that Martin is one of the top 6-7 most impactful players in this year's draft. Might even go top 5.

Edit: I only swapped out Smith b/c I think he is the least likely on the list I was responding to to go in the top 10.

Misa and Schaefer go 1 and 2 in whatever order. 3 is basically where it gets interesting.

3. Chicago will go forward, I assume martone but maybe they look at des/hagans
4. Utah could go either forward or defense(which could impact the rest of the top9)
5. Nash center
6. Philly center
7. Boston center
8. Seattle I see leaning dmen
9. Buffalo dmen, but I think this pick is potentially moved
