Lets say both first rounders end up smack dab in the middle of the 1st round like they are right now...

Would you trade both picks to get into the top 10 and draft Desnoyers (assuming he's there to be had)? I feel like he is exactly what this team is missing. A top 6 center with all the size and intangibles you can want.

I don't know how that works out value wise if you send 15 and 16 for let's say 7 or 8. Maybe someone needs to add. But the team-prospect fit is so perfect with Desnoyers and the Habs that I feel like they can and need to make it happen.

Is this a homer qc take? By Snake *Gadget* Boiverst

I don't think the Snake can be called a homer, he's generally just a loose canon. For example, he did not have Lafrenière first in 2020. He's also routinely going viral for his harsh criticism of Habs players.

He is not a fan of Martone from what I understand, as he thinks the guy's too slow to dominate in the NHL. I'm eager to hear his rationale for having Desnoyers ahead of Misa though. The Snake calls it like he sees it, sometimes he looks like an idiot and sometimes a genius.

I would but I don't see a team in the top 10 doing that. Especially since it's probably in the top 6 or 7 of the draft.

But maybe explore using our 2nds and 3rds to move up to ensure we get Carter Bear, could be a more doable scenario.

Value wise should be like 7th overall but that team wouldn't give it up.

I believe the last time a team moved into the top 10, was in 2022. The Hawks traded for the 7OV with the DeBrincat trade. You probably have to trade a really good piece (like DeBrincat) rather than pure draft assets.

He's real interesting, his U20 numbers are good and he's already getting some games in the Allsvenskan at 17. One of many early second round candidates to keep an eye on. The Chicago Steel hold his USHL rights and we have strong ties with them, so our scouts might be pretty familliar with the kid already.

I would love to pick Desnoyers but trading up in the Top 10 with pure draft picks is very difficult

I found a couple of examples (curiously enough, both times it was San Jose) however, he'd have to drop closer to the bottom of the Top 10.

2005- Atlanta Thrashers trade their 8th overall pick to SJ for picks 12 (1st round), 49 (2nd round) and 207 (7th round)

2007- St Louis Blues trade their 9th overall pick to San Jose for picks picks 13 (1st round), 44 (2nd round) and 87 (3rd round)

One thing we have a ton of is draft picks in the top 4 rounds.

Actually I would acquire a RHD through trade and draft a 2C. Only because it takes a lot of time for the D to have an impact on your team. Habs can’t wait another 5 years to have a top 4 RHD, let alone a top pair.

Though I’m aware top pair RHD are almost nonexistent on the trade market most of the time. So you have to overpay to get them.
very few "C"s are prepared to step into the NHL (with any effect) after three years. Our "window" will just start to open next year, so it will be important to have a mix of new youth to compliment our current (young core). Salaries will start to become an issue in deciding what is required - which is why guys like Evans (unless he's willing to sign for $3.5/) will need to be dealt.

We can use our pick and Calgary's (#11;)) to move up to nab that 2C

If Habs got 15th and 16th picks, what pick they can get if they combined these two pucks? Anyone?
To be honest, I prefer if we draft twice in the first round vs going all in the top 10. We can still find great player outside of the top 10.
