I know many think I have a have a bias with QMJHL players (what is true in a sense since I see them playing live and I have some information on some of them) but this kid is the real deal and I would be really happy if we pick him outside of the top 4

after watching that replay with his 5 points, I can only conclude 1 thing,

given the impression that the Q is weak and slow,

My basis is his speed, shot and puck handling were not exceptionals, so I looked at his opponents and it was clear to me that he was playing a bunch of peewees

IMO a first rounder all day. The talent and physical tools are there, just get him a skating coach.

Desnoyers at 5 seems underwhelming. I get that you can do nothing about it, but I'd still be upset. Frankly, anything after 4 seems kind of meh to me.

It entirely depends on the evaluation of his defensive game. Elite shutdown Cs are possibly the highest impact players - besides a hot goalie - when it comes to winning a cup and are criminally undervalued.

A lot of centers at the draft get over-praised for their two-way play when a more accurate description would be that they're just making a concerted effort to pay attention to that side of the game. While that in itself is impressive for a 17 year old, it oversimplifies the tools and talent it takes to actually reach the highest of defensive ceilings.

Suzuki for example, as solid as he is, will never be among the upper echelon of centers in terms of pure defensive ability. He doesn't have the skating, length, or motor to truly make an impact on that side of the ice and be suffocating to play against. He's just a guy who's in the right place at the right time more often than not, and that's all we really need from him.

In my viewings so far, Desnoyers has a better case than most to actually fulfill that shutdown C potential. The skating, length, IQ, compete, faceoff prowess are all there.

I'm intrigued by him. Is he still growing? He will fill out obviously, but if he gets another inch or two with the highlights I've seen. Elite.

Best PPG in the Q, amongst the best in the CHL. I don't care about people hating the Q, we've proven this year after year after year. The Q wins the Mem Cup. And, Desnoyers playing in his age group on international level should shut the critics. I wished I had a clip of his sequence versus Trethewey, where he pulled him back to knock him down. Kid is a gamer. Misa is flippy floppy. He seems unengaged and soft and easily mentally poked. Look at his teddy bear scandal. Who does that? Desnoyers make it rain with his play. Misa returns them to the crowd..silly Misa

On Desnoyers - I will say his big brother is repped by none other than Philippe Lecavalier of Quartexx.

I'm optimistic they make it happen. A left handed 2C who is good at both ends of the ice is such a need for us.

I think this is potentially our most important tank year, which is good because it's basically a bonus tank year. I'm happy with any of the top-6 and we could have another top-15/20 pick and 2 early 2nds. I hope they hold onto every pick this year.

Side question regarding Quebec hockey for anybody...Who was the last good player to come out of Montreal? I'm not talking about St Jerome or Blainville or St Hyacinthe, i'm talking about the island. Seems like it's been a while for a such a big damn city.

Then one of Carter Bear, Lakovic, Mrtka, Carbonneau, Hensler, Spence with the Calgary pick would be awesome too.

CGY 1st: Mrtka ideally but Bear, Lakovic, or Carbonneau would be great

I see him as very impactful. He is so good in all aspects of the game + maturity + upside. I think he is the perfect center for Montreal and maybe i am a bit too enthusiastic about him but I see a lot of Patrice Bergeron in him.
