Carter Bear and Anton Frondell are two guys I've watched recently that I think could be talked about a bit more - maybe for different reasons though.

Was initially watching Everett to catch Dupont, but Bear stood out in a good way. He's made big improvements over last year and is putting up numbers to start the season. Very tenacious, good in traffic, really strong puck skills and a good release, plays both special teams, and he's a pretty a quick skater. Really solid around the net and below the hash marks. Has growth potential in his skating as the issues are more strength based than mechanical IMO. A bit too hungry for offence at this stage but there are good indications that his two-way play could improve. I wouldn't call him a stand out physically or skills-wise, but he's got a couple plus tools, reads the play well, and excels in tight spaces. A bit of size and added strength and I think he could be a really interesting C prospect. CGY pick possibility.

Frondell looked... not bad but not great in the two Allsvenskan games I saw. He's been projected high for a while so I won't go into much detail on him, but generally I've liked his ability to get inside and he's got good tools. However, I think he might drop a bit if he doesn't pick it up soon. I don't see the urgency or engagement I'd expect from a guy looking to go top-5/10 and having to play against men for the first time. I'm really curious to see how the rest of the season goes as 10-15OA isn't outside the realm of possibility if his pro play stays pretty tepid.

Frondell isn't a very dynamic skater either, his game definitely doesn't rely on a fast tempo. I've had a hard time projecting him TBH, I really don't have much of a grasp on his NHL potential. He's not a dnd or anything drastic like that, but I'm not a big fan.

I think teams could project him as a 2C and hope that he can bring a physically engaged/two-way game as he develops. The puck skills are really strong. Lundell might be a decent comparable.

A lot of the top guys in this draft seem to have much stronger hands than they do feet.

Lundell is the comp I've heard the most, I can see it if the two way game really carries well. I don't know if that's sexy enough for a top 15 though.

For some teams it could be. The list of guys projected more as solid, two-way, middle-6 Cs that go top-15 in the last decade is pretty long. If I'm the Habs, I'd want to see who's still available and who I picked top-10 before going that route.

Same. I'm still anchored by what I witnessed up close at the U18s, and Hagens was just too much for the competition. Too fast, skilled, smart, powerful. But Martone and Misa are lighting the OHL on fire at a clip that's making me, and not just me rethink things.
Thats a top 4 and the gap between those players is marginal IMO, any of them could be picked 1st OV at this point I think. Picking 5th this year would be sad since you enter another tier of prospects, the only one who could jumps in that top tier is Logan Hansler IMO, but he needs to pick it up. McQueen has tools, but is pretty raw, high celling, low floor.

As for the Calgary pick, lets say its 11-15 range, I would trade up for Desnoyers personally, I love his game, kid is a gamer.

So pick Schaefer when we win the lotto for 1st or 2nd overall then trade up from Calgary’s #11 overall for Desnoyers. Done deal.

The more guys like Carbonneau and Carter Bear that rip it up the better for us. We want lots of good options if that Flames pick is #11-15.

He's just so pass first pass only, unwilling to use his one on one skills and wicked shot.

Yeah, he's really passive right now. His puck management skills & puck possession skills haven't made it to NCAA level, too.

He's not challenging guys one on one and not shooting or driving the net. It's weird. It's like I imagined this great player from U18s.

Hopefully, it's just a slow start. He's playing between Leonard & Perreault, so he may just be deferring to them in offensive situations instead of just playing his game.

I wish Smith has stayed. He's not doing anything in pro hockey and is not physically ready. It would have been better for Hagens.
