2025 NHL Entry Draft Thread

Horcoff is probably more of a winger. He's a bit stiff for me all-around to the point where I don't know if it's just skating at issue. He has decent skill but likely tops out as a third-liner. At 37 that's decent but not someone with first round value I don't think. He's definitely one of the bigger body plays they could make but even with skating a fixable area I'd prefer a more twitchy athlete and one with easier offensive upside.

The 3C in waiting could be Ilya Protas, though they'd need to lean on PLD as a regular PKer in that event. That's assuming Ilya really puts in the work to make it viable but I'd venture for now at least that needs to be the main idea. There's Lapierre but, yeah, I don't think he's ever going to be firm or generally reliable enough for their liking. He's definitely not trending towards morphing into a PK ace or something so...shrug. At least Ilya has the frame and anticipation/IQ to build on.

Gotta go BPA at both spots to extract max value in a draft that's not great. Doing a little mock yesterday I came up with, like Murtagh and Ihs Wozniak as floor type options. Not bad. Decent size. Some upside. You'd hope for a bit more but we'll see. (That was with their first pick being at 31. A few spots earlier and perhaps there's a secondary center left.)

Any chance Ben Kindel makes it all the way to 31?
Very little you'd think.

Another C option worth mentioning is Will Moore. He took some key draws at the U18s and produced pretty well. Not entirely sure about the overall IQ/skill level but there are some elements to work with.

Pronman has him at #36 in his update after U-18’s.
I’m hoping he slides to the Caps!

My last tankathon had the Rangers going all the way up to #1 eww.

I don't my Wozniak just going on the whole size and speed in our prospect pool.

If Pittsburgh wins...

I’m fine with them winning this year. There’s no consensus top pick this year… this is more of a Slafkovsky, Power, RNH-type 1OA than a real franchise cornerstone. Next year with McKenna is a different story.
