2025 NHL Entry DRAFT Thread

It's not about the existence of other Russians on the team. It's whether or not Russian players being willing to take a pay cut and play in a lesser league with the uncertainty of ever playing in the NHL.

And compare that with the opportunity to play hockey professionally in your home country for more money.

The NHL had 51 players from Russia play at least 1 game in the regular season this year.

If I remember correctly too, Russia refused to sign the transfer agreement between the NHL and European countries. Usually, money gets paid out to these other countries, as they spent time and money to train and develop these players.

So, the long story short is compared to other European countries, Russia and North America get into bidding wars for Russian talent.

The Kings may draft him. I'm not saying it's impossible. But they have a hard time getting Russian prospects to come over.

It makes sense for the Kings to not really target Russians.

Many are under contract with their Russian clubs into their 20's, and others would prefer to play in Russia until they are very close to being NHL ready.

That doesn't really jibe with the Kings philosophy for developing young players.

The Kings develop Players really?Who would have thought possible

Trevor Lewis v2.
As much as I complain about him this go around, he was crucial in our cup years and there had to be other intangibles for a guy that is no more than a fourth line player to stick around for over 1000 games in the league. If only his hands were a hair better.

I know we are stacked at goal but Joshua Ravensbergen looks real good and could be available hen we pick. Triple down

At 24 it’s a crap shoot. I would honestly trade the pick for immediate young yelp or in package for a guy like Barzal or Dobson.

Kings have done enough trading of their 1st rounders...please no more talk of this it makes them worse...and no way in hell do they get Barzal for the 24th pick...

And Barzal isn’t what this roster needs anyways.

They need to strip the roster to the foundation, and start anew.

Kupari, Vilardi, Turcotte, Björnfot, (Kaliyev),
Vs
Byfield.

Fine with this team dumping their first round picks for NHL players given drafting & development, especially late 1sts.

Don’t think I said they would. I said in a package. Kings are win now no matter what we think or want as fans.

My thoughts.

Kopitar is no longer a 1C, but a solid 2C, and an elite 3C

Byfield is to inconsistent to be a 1C at this point, is a good 2C, and is being wasted if 3C

Danault is perfectly slotted as a 3C

Helenius is much needed at 4C and like Byfield has room to grow.

My goal would to be trade Phil, as I think he would be highly regarded around the league by playoff teams looking for that third line center. He should fetch a pretty good price. Take those assets, recouped and add a few assets of our own and grab a guy like Barzal.

Barzal in my mind is an elite 2C that is possible for long stretches as a 1C.

If you get a guy like Barzal we basically don’t need a first or a second line. We have two major building blocks on each line for a true top six. Barzal and Kempe, Byfield and Fiala. Four very dynamic offensive players for other teams to try and shut down.

Then comes Kopitar flanked by the speedy Foegele and Laf. Two guys that can forcheck with the best in the league and one guy centering them, that is probably the best overall defensive/ offensive hybrid in the last 20 years. Yes he has lost a step, but with those two road runners on his wing, he doesn’t have to be the first one in the zone, can sit back and go to the proper areas as the play develops. It also slots Laf in a spot where he is going to be considered highly effective. I don’t think he’s a top six player, but I think he can be an elite third liner.

As for the fourth line, Helenius is a great start, I really liked Turcotte, but I think he would be going in a deal for a center, and I would want toughness down on that for flying. Tanner or someone like him definitely have to be signed. I would love one heavy hitting forward on that line as well, like a prime, Matt Martin.

I guess that’s my long-winded explanation as to why I think they’ll trade the first round pick. The draft is also in LA. It would be a nice splash on draft day to still get someone young that can upgrade the team for many years.

Another good candidate I'm finishing writing about is Braeden Cootes. Doesn't have absurd offensive talent or numbers. I know this comparison will draw a lot of ire, but he's like a 6-foot-0 Blake Lizotte. He's just balls to the wall aggressive and tenacious, but also talented enough to play as a middle-six forward in the NHL eventually.

He's one of the only players in the WHL to be captain as a 17 year-old.

But as a hobby, he loves wake boarding. Surf's up!

But in all seriousness, he feels like another culture changer.
