2025 NHL DRAFT

You would think Glass and his injury woes would've taught us a lesson or two
Glass injuries hurt a lot but I don't think he ever possessed the mindset to become a dominant player in the NHL. He was too soft mentally, imo. Not enough compete to be a 200-foot CENTER.

Just did some stalking over on the other teams' boards and it sounds like we may not even get the chance to pick McQueen. I saw some Utah fans talking about taking McQueen with the 4 pick - depending on how the top-three shakes out. Utah has a stacked prospect pool so it makes sense that they could take a chance with McQueen.

Desnoyers gaining some steam (expectedly) heading into the draft. Could go as high as three to Chicago. Don't think Chicago would go for McQueen, they still need to hit that pick and McQueen in the top-three is risky business.

Top-two seems to be set in stone. I think the consensus now is that picks, say 3-7/8, are pretty close and dependent on the team's preferences. I'm just hoping someone goes for Martone in the top-four so we get one pick closer to getting a top-three center in this class.

This is why I think we may very well still have a shot at Hagens and/or Frondell.

Oh for sure, at least one of them will be there. Frondell didn't have a great U18 and that could make him drop a bit as he wasn't a sure-fire thing to begin with.

For some reason, I can't shake the thought of one of Chicago or Utah going for Martone. He's a unicorn in this draft class and when teams are watching the playoffs, they realize you need size and toughness to succeed come playoff time. Guys like Hagens tend to fall because of that.

Would be pretty interesting to see the top-four going something like this:

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Desnoyers
4. Martone

We'd get to choose between all of Frondell, Hagens AND McQueen. Would we still go McQueen?

In the scenario of McQueen's health checking out at the Combine, then I could certainly see us going for him over Frondell and Hagens. I'm more in the Hagens camp than the Frondell camp, so picking McQueen over Hagens would definitely feel dicey to me, but it won't shock me if things play out that way. :help:

If that is how things shake out, then I would rank them Hagens, Frondell, then McQueen if those are the only options.

Possibly. I would only add that being in a state of perpetual injury and rehab will have alot of impact on your mindset. If you break every time you start getting back into a groove, it is going to change how you see and approach things.

Yeah we saw this with Ellis and he had already had been pretty solid for a bit. Once he signed that contract and blew that knee out he didn't want anyone touching him. The little guy that would take anyone on in the corner suddenly was running for the hills because he was afraid he would get hurt.

I'd consider whoever we draft with our 5th overall as our best option for a top 6 C. I just not sure i see any of the Cs that'll be available at our later picks that would project better than what we got. I see lots of dmen that are better than what we got though.
I agree. My 1st round wish list is
Frondell/Hagens
Fiddler
Boumedienne
Brzustewicz

Seen some people (not necessarily here) compare McQueen to Logan Brown. All you need to do to shake off that comparison is watch this video of Brown in his draft year. LOOK AT HIS SKATING.

We may not have to worry about that, didn't Trotz have a quote earlier about how much he'd love to draft Hagens?

Otherwise, if the team is confident in McQueen's health and they want to take a big HR swing on him, i'm okay with it. I know a lot of people have the feeling that we never pick in the lottery so we won't get this chance again and have to hit on it for sure, but honestly we dropped out of the sure things and I also don't see anything that suggests we're not going to get another lottery pick next season and maybe another season or two after that, which sucks but could easily be our reality.

After Carolina won last night:

If Dallas wins then Vegas pick becomes 26th
If Florida wins Tampa pick becomes 23rd
Also Tampa 2nd moves from 56 to 55th
Dallas And Florida has to win for the vegas pick to be 26th. I think after dropping to 5 and the season we just had, the hockey gods owns us the best possible outcome for our other 2 picks lol

Only reason I went with Brzustewicz over Wang is because he's a rhd but I wouldnt be upset with Wang
Definitely need more rhd. Gibson, Fiddler, and Brzustewicz would be a good group. Then we have Molendyk, Chystyakov, Wilsby and grab Wang in the early 2nd if still available. Seems like a pretty good mix for the future.
