2025 NHL DRAFT

With the third pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Nashville Predators select, Bob Jones… Plumbers Union 575 Bulldogs
Dude Jones is overrated and his stats are a result of playing on a stacked team. Plumbers Union 575 is know for bringing in ringers. Real talent is Ken Stanford on the Steel Workers Union 367. Dude is a beast in the slot and plays a good 2 way game plus he brings the good IPA for everyone.

Drinking IPA after a beer league game is like serving caviar at a 5-year old's birthday party.

Seattle gets a big win in Vancouver. We're now 8 points clear of them although they do have a game in hand. But they also have the tie-break over us. We would have to go 5-2-0 (or 4-2-1) to end the year while they should basically lose out. Don't see it happening.

Right and Boston has 7 points over us but have the tiebreaker as well. To drop to 4th OVA before the draft lottery, we would have to get atleast 8 of the remaining 14 points while Boston loses out. They're on an impressive 6 game losing streak but we have our own mini-losing streak of 4 going on.

On another note, I read that Roger McQueen is sidelined again with... gulp... back/hip issues. I know the article came out about how his prior back injury was an actual fracture that healed and was not expected to be a chronic condition... but this won't be encouraging for his chances of sneaking up higher in the draft if he's basically done for the year again. :dunno:

If we're picking no later than #5, I think we can safely write off McQueen as a candidate.

If he falls back a bit due to injury concerns, i wonder if we could make a package to move up a later pick and grab him. I don't think he will fall that far but would be interesting if we could grab a hagens/Frondell and McQueen

I'm still never a fan of moving up. I think we need so many things that just using all 3 of our #25/30/35 picks is the safer play. If we use 2 of them to get a single player with back issues, I don't think we can afford that gamble. :dunno:

Yeah, that doesn't sound good AT ALL. That was literally the thing he needed to show the scouts upon returning that his back WOULDN'T be an issue but it didn't take long before it was again. Considering how we're projecting to be a lock to pick in the top-five, I'm also leaning towards putting McQueen in the "don't draft" -list.

I'm still holding out hope that we get a top-four pick. That way, we can just sit back until the draft as we will surely get one of Schaefer/Misa/Frondell/Hagens!

And then in the worst case at #5, I feel like I'd have Desnoyers ahead of Martone atm. He sounds like he might "only" be an O'Reilly/Fisher type... but... that's not the worst downside ever. :dunno:

I feel content I don't even need to think about wingers like Martone or Eklund. Although I would usually prefer the bigger/PF style player. If we can lock up the #3 seed in the standings, then we'll guarantee ourselves at least one of the candidate centers (Misa, Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers). So to at least some extent that makes it "easy".

Not to say I couldn't imagine Trotz doing something unexpectedly bananas... but if he does, then all that discussion will come POST-draft. From a PRE-draft perspective, I think we can narrow our focus to the top 4 center candidates. :dunno:

I see a lot of similarities between Sebastian Aho and Desnoyers. Both are crafty skaters, reliable and creative puck-handlers and just smart players all-around. Similar shooting techniques as well. They both also like to slow the pace of play down in transition to open up the ice.

The reason why I'm a bit hesitant on Desnoyers is his ultimate offensive upside. Why didn't he light the QMJHL on fire - a league KNOWN for its high-scoring? 1.50 points per game is nothing to scoff at but the last top pick to come out of the Q was Lafreniere who put up 2.15 points per game in his draft year and hasn't really broken out in the NHL despite being 23 yrs old. The Q just hasn't produced a lot of elite talent the last few years - and that's why I would like to see Desnoyers at the U18's but that's probably not going to happen.

I feeI should note that the Q hasn't been particularly high-scoring since the mid-00s; in fact, it is currently the lowest-scoring CHL league, at 6.7 goals-per-game, and was last year as well (for reference, NHL scoring is roughly 6 goals per game).

Desnoyers won't be at the U-18s, but he was last year, and at the Hlinka and U17 as well. Was great, and won gold, at all three. That said, I don't really disagree that there are legitimate concerns about his offensive upside. But it's not about the scoring, which is very good; it's about the tools. Compared to other top-10 prospects, Desnoyers lacks standout athletic traits; he doesn't have high-end skating, amazing hands or great pace. He's just a really, really smart hockey player, with a nice frame and a good but not elite skillset. And I'd be a bit scared to draft a guy like that top-5.

I just don't see it, sorry. :dunno:

(Of course, this is the hilarious version of "seeing it" by reading a few blurbs and a thread here! :D )
:GWC:
In a normal draft year I would agree with you but this year is predicted to be so bad that moving up and taking a top 10 talent would be a major coup. Let him take a year off and heal completely. Back issues are absolutely the worst but if he gets healthy he is an upgrade over anyone that would have been available in the 30’s of this draft

I suspect that the premise, even of say trading our #25 + #30 picks (TB + VGK) for a pick in the #8-12 range to get McQueen probably wouldn't be accepted by any team drafting in that spot anyway, so it's likely a moot point.

He'd have to be really falling on Draft Day, down to #18,19,20 before a team would consider trading down for our 2 1sts? And if he falls that far, it's probably because something not so good was found out in his Combine/medical situation. In which case, I'll take 2 other healthy guys in the same range, thanks.

Who wouldn't trade a chance at a 50/50 sort of guy to draft two guys closer to 10/90? :sarcasm:

If Trotz actually uses the two lower picks in the first round instead of bundling them with a prospect/player to get a 23-25 year old established good player, he’s a bigger idiot than I thought.

Misa's gone pointless in three of the first four games of the playoffs. Not a good look for a guy battling for the 1st OA.
