2025 NHL DRAFT

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

If we end up 3rd last, isn't at least the 4th pick pretty much guaranteed for us unless TWO teams jump ahead of us? To be honest, I'm not completely sure of how it all works, lol.

So if we're slotted 3rd, we have best odds of picking 4th, but also pretty good odds of 5th. Almost 70% of 4th or 5th.

Dropping to the 4th slot would be pretty devastating...

Frankly this team needs everything. I know most people would rather have a hopefully future 1C, myself included, but getting Schaefer wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either.
Schaefer-one of our other two 1sts/2 2nds
Molendyk-Gibson

Is a solid young D group going forward. I would rather go back to having an elite D core than sucking like this.

Especially since there’s no real indication this team will be any better next year. If you can draft an elite defender who’s clearly first overall, do it. Then take another shot at C next draft.

So you're telling me we're going to get to choose between Martone, McQueen, and Desnoyers, sounds like. :sarcasm:

No, but I really can see it. I have run the Tankathon lottery simulator a dozen times now and we almost always pick 5th. And that's without even losing spots in the input rankings yet. So Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, and Frondell will go 1-4. And we'll get to pick somebody from the next tier. I'm totally expecting that. And since that tier is not "can't miss", we will indeed probably find a way to Upshall that pick. Cherry on top of the most brutal year in Preds history. :help:
This is realistic.

Fortunately for us, even though it's not the best draft year overall, there's a lot of centers at the top of this draft. Misa, Frondell, Hagens and Desnoyers as the top ones.
Misa is a winger. Can he also play centre? I don’t see him listed as centre anywhere.

I quite like frondell though.

Hagens is amazing but he’s small for a centre.

I would take McQueen over Desnoyers all day. I think Desnoyers is getting a lot more hype around here than deserved. I would be upset if we took Desnoyers over gambling on McQueen personally. 6’5” centre that can skate, shoot and pass very well and is physical? Come on Barry!

Misa is listed as a center everywhere, and talked about as a center in his main board thread. Go read it?

Although of course, that may not be the same thing as saying he'd end up as a center in the NHL, not if the Sharks drafted him, for example. And maybe not if we drafted him either, since we'll probably still have McCarron and an extended Sissons switched back to center to play ahead of him for the next 5 or 6 more years. :sarcasm:

This is a bad take

1. Mcqueen's numbers are very pedestrian since coming back from injury- under a pt per game. I get his blend of size and skating ability are enticing , but he screams Nolan Patrick Redux

2. Desnoyers has been shooting up the rankings (deservedly so). He is the highest scoring/most prolific player on the best team in the Q. His offensive game is very underrated, if you watch tape, he has put together some very high skill goals/assists. This guy screams Bergeron v2 if he reaches full potential, and should safely develop a Sean Couturier or Ryan O'Reilly type career.

3. I'd be shocked if Mcqueen goes in the top 15, we are wasting a pick if we pick him at 5.

If we miss out on Misa, then we need to go all in on Frondell and or Desnoyers.

To add to this, Misa played primarily wing last year on veteran team that won Memorial Cup. This year he moved back to center, which he had played primarily in previous years, and led entire chl in scoring. Now there are some who think he may be better at wing, but that is said about many centers (Jack Hughes, for example).

I think Misa's closer to a center in the NHL than Hagens is. But I see a lot of Logan Cooley in Hagens and Cooley seems to work well as a center. They're both elite-level skaters which makes it a lot easier to work out as a center (see Brayden Point as well).

Weird. That’s the first I have heard of it.

I don’t even know what other site I would check but would be shocked if he ends up an nhl centre.

I think the main point for us is that Misa is an extremely talented offensive player who at the very least could play center... and given our needs, if we drafted him, we should absolutely do everything in our power to give him every possible chance to succeed as a center. ALWAYS... that is, no apprenticeships either at the AHL or NHL level on the wing, no playing on the wing, period. Not until or unless he absolutely fails out on his own accord there after several years of trying.

He is not a pure playmaker like some centers are, no, but just because he scores goals doesn't mean he can't play center, given he also skates well enough and it sounds like he plays a reasonable 2-way game. There are some wingers who are playmakers, maybe he'd find chemistry with a player like that. Who knows. I think if we get any of Misa, Hagens, or Frondell then we have to approach those picks as centers from Day 1. They'd have to fail out well past Day 1,000 before I'd ever shift them off center.

Like BBB said, you're looking at sites which simply haven't updated for 2024-25. Lots of sites don't update things like that (or height/weight) very often. Misa has played center all this year. He played center in minor hockey. Yes, as a younger player in the OHL granted exceptional status to start early in junior, he was shifted to LW. Now in his draft year he's back to center.

I mean, I don't know how we as people looking at where he's "listed" really matters though... just go through and read all the people who actually watch him play. He is playing center. What more is there to say? How can you even have a belief or be shocked about something when you don't even listen to the people who do watch him, let alone watch him yourself?

Can’t speak as much to Misa but from what I’ve seen of Hagens he definitely seems like a true center to me. Doesn’t mean he’s a better player but yeah I like the Cooley and Point comps, not to say he’ll necessarily reach that level.

f*** that

if we pick 1st overall, depending on who is #2 we either pick Misa or we trade down and grab another prospect or more draft picks and Settle with Frondell, Desnoyers, etc

We shouldn't even take a D-man in the first round this year

We need forwards with legit top 6 upside
