I think we could see Hagens fall to us too , if anyone is going to drop from the top guys I could see it be him because of his size and mid numbers as a freshmanNOT getting a premium talent like Misa, Hagens or Frondell after a year like this is a MASSIVE disappointment. McQueen is probably the guy I like most from the next tier but even with him, I'm not that convinced. Martone has offensive punch but man, he has heavy boots under him.
After seeing the 4 Nations Tournament, I believe skating will be even more crucial in the game as it has been before. Slower guys who are not overly physical won't have much impact on the game. The tomwilsons or matthewtkachuk's won't go out of style, however, and they'll be unicorns one day.
That's actually why I prefer Hagens the most at this draft. He may not have crazy numbers in the NCAA but to my eye, he's the best skater in the draft, just absolutely brilliant.
Desnoyers has unconvincing numbers in the Q - a league known for high-scoring.I think we would be happy with Eklund or Desnoyers
I think Desnoyers could become like a Bergeron type guy
I think Eklund could become a very productive winger for us
His PNHLe shows first line upside
This guy thinks if he can improve his shot he can be a 1st line center
Very similar game to Sean Coutrier
Arguably that should have been something to brace for from Day 1. That's unfortunately how this sort of thing will frequently go.Do we need to start preparing for missing out on our unicorn and getting a nice shiny acorn instead?
The real reason to not be rooting for losses is because it destroys the soul. Accept them with equanimity, sure, but hoping for them is self-destructive; it leads to things like hating players that rational folks would love because they keep playing hard and thus leading to wins, then seeing then traded away and flourish elsewhere such that you end up hating them even more for not flourishing like that here. It's poison that f***s up your motivations in following the game.Hearing Emma on her pod yesterday say the fans shouldn't be rooting for the team losing games because "the difference between 3 and 5 doesn't matter" shows you how much she doesn't actually follow this draft class. There is a massive dip in talent in THIS draft from 3 to 5.
Normally I would agree but not this year.
Hmm, I don't think it has to be like that. Or maybe I'm just not invested enough for it to ever impact me like that? Or maybe it would just have to be going on for many many years in order for it to reach that state? The real reason to not be rooting for losses is because it destroys the soul. It starts out feeling easy like that but it drags you down in the end.Hmm, I don't think it has to be like that. Or maybe I'm just not invested enough for it to ever impact me like that? Or maybe it would just have to be going on for many many years in order for it to reach that state?
Anyway, I feel like I can quite comfortably make a detached decision to wish for losses in our final 20 games of this abysmal season, and actually think of that as fostering hope and optimism, because every loss does provide a tangibly better opportunity to get one of the top 3 picks in the upcoming draft, which would legitimately help our organization get back on track towards winning more games in the future.
It has taken quite a lot for some of us to get to this state, I know I'm not the only one who has always defended staying in the so-called "mushy middle" vs. consciously rebuilding and trying to move up from the middle or hope for a miracle playoff run. I've never supported tanking and losing before in the past. But we're in uncharted waters now with these final 20 games, and I'm confident it won't poison my soul to cheer for losses, not any more than my soul is already poisoned by watching the trades Trotz makes, or seeing Brunette behind the bench, or even simply the lineup every night.
I'm not trying to present it as "the wrong way to be a fan", I just think it's self-destructive.I think the whole debate is silly, there's no right or wrong way to be a fan. If you can't bring yourself to hope for losses, don't. Personally I've just stopped going out of my way at all to watch the games for now. If I have nothing else going on I'll turn it on. Otherwise sure. It doesn't have to be that deep
Vernon Fiddler did more for this franchise than this band of "serial winners" could ever dream of.So with the tampas pick we have to pick Vernon's kid right? Just like we should of picked Yanic's kid 2 years ago. Keep it in the family. In all seriousness I think Blake Fiddler would be a solid pickup with the tampa pick
Emma is the result of many things I will not mention here. She should be ignored and relieved of her duties.Hearing Emma on her pod yesterday say the fans shouldn't be rooting for the team losing games because "the difference between 3 and 5 doesn't matter" shows you how much she doesn't actually follow this draft class. Good list. Would love to hear your reasoning as to why McQueen is so low, and why Desnoyers is top-five? Also, Smith seems a bit low as well, I think he’s a borderline top-10 talent in this draft. Here is my updated top 30:
I don't include goalies, but Ravensberger would be decent choice for us in late 1st.
