2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

If we get n the Top 2 I target a post selection trade back to 4-5 that depends on Frondell being there

Example
We draft Misa and if Frondell is at 4, we swap and get one of Phily's late 1sts

I think Frondell is a Peter Forsberg-lite player

You mean.... If we wind up with the 2nd or 3rd pick via the draft lottery, we should look to drop a spot or two?

Just to tie some topics together...

If Dobson is moved and the draft is the place in which Lou does it, I think that as interesting as partners like SJS, SEA, NAS, and perhaps UTA might be, MON may be way up on the list of possibilities.

I can see Dobson looking REAL good on that team with all those puckmovers and shooters.

Hughes and Lou have done the draft day deal before and Montreal not only has a burgeoning prospect bin right now, but they've also got 12 picks this summer (7 in the first 3 rounds) and 9 next.

*All thoughts of moving Dobson are with the caveat that the receiving party would be given the option to come to terms with Dobson's party beforehand.

I've just seen a highlight reel of all of his goals this year so granted it's limited, but I don't see NHL goals. Maybe there's a lot more to his game, but when I see his goals I get the same vibe I got when I saw MDC's highlights (or Matthew Savoie a few years ago). I see a guy who can score on relatively uncontested shots from dangerous areas. In the NHL you don't get that. Can he create on his own?
Not that this is the be all, tell all, but Dobber Prospects rated Del Colle NHL certainty of becoming a full time NHL player as 4.5 out of 10. Savoie was rated an 8.5 but has had injury issues. Still hope there.
Misa is rated an 8.5.

That's interesting - they had him as only a 4.5 at the time he was drafted? My recollection is that people (here anyway) had MDC as a sure thing. Hey, if we win the lottery and pick Misa I'll be rooting for him. And I'm no scout - I just watch highlight reels and make my calls. That goes back to the Filatov year when everyone was salivating over him and all I saw in his videos was breakaway goals and was suspicious of his chances.

Maybe we don’t win a game rest of the year and pick higher but at the moment I would like to take one of Martin or Bear at 9-12ish. Lots of mocks have us taking that big Czech d-man which I wouldn’t be too thrilled with

I’d be fine with Mrtka, but not too excited about Bear or Martin. They don’t excite me for some reason but I think we’ll pick 9th and hopefully one of the top 7/8 fall. Realistically I think it’d be Eklund or McQueen, since everyone else are productive centers with size other than Hagens. I really want Eklund tho

Eklund is goooood. He's already so mature.

I think he can be better than his brother.

What he's done on a scoring line for one of the most ambitious teams in Europe has been downright outstanding.

That all said, no-one should be downplaying Mrtka. To be that big at 17 yet that coordinated and able to play run-n-gun or rough-n-tumble hockey - it doesn't grow on trees.

And it bodes well for a long NHL career.

Bear reminds me of Beauvillier, and I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way.

Detroit and Pittsburgh wins tonight helping the tank. Need to lose last 4, good chance we pick 7th or 8th if so.

Hate to burst your bubble but even if we go 0-4, decent chance we don't pick 7 or 8(maybe 9). The second we win 1 or more games our odds go significantly down

Disagree with first part, if we go 0-4 we’ll definitely get 8, and 50-50 for 7. I agree tho if we even win 1 game we’ll almost definitely pick 10, possibly 9th.

Given the makeup of the draft there will be two dmen around where we draft but if we keep falling we’ll get a forward.

Really want our second and third picks going to dmen to restock

Pittsburgh (effectively 2 points back as NYI holds RW tiebreaker) remaining games: Boston, Washington
Anaheim (effectively 2 points back as NYI holds RW tiebreaker) remaining games: Colorado, Minnesota, Winnipeg
Buffalo (currently 2 points back, they hold RW over NYI currently) remaining games: Florida, Tampa, Toronto

It's going to be tough to jump these three teams, although I guess technically possible. Not only does NYI pretty much need to gain zero points in any of the four remaining games, but some of these other teams have to gain points against much better opponents.

Hope for the following:
Winnipeg secures the President's Trophy by the time Washington plays Pittsburgh and Winnipeg plays Anaheim.
Hope Toronto secures the division by the time they play Buffalo

Personally I feel getting high end guys more important then finding bottom 6ers. Take enough chances on high end guys you bound to get lucky
I don't disagree, and depending on where we pick, that may be the best move. My dreams of being low enough for Frondell or Eklund have evaporated.

Still, McQueen is one of the older players in this draft, only got 20 games in this year, and his skating is just alright. The offensive skills and size are intriguing though.
