NHL 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Definitely agree that we need to go center i just don’t want them to reach. It seems like most the teams ahead of Boston also have that want for center, I do think Seattle would be greedy going center given they already have Beniers/ Wright/ Catton but they could move one to wing like they did McCann

Misa/ Hagens are pretty much locked for the top 4.

Frondell has had one of the best 2nd half of the season out of any draft eligible prospect once he returned and has actually started to get some votes over Martone for a top 5 pick.

So between pick 6-9 that leaves us with Desnoyer/ Obrien if Boston lands 8 and they go 6-7 I really don’t want them reaching for Brady Martin/ Carter Bear when they are more projected to go 13-20 especially if guys like
LW Victor Eklund/ LHD Jackson Smith/ RHD Radom Mrtka are on the board I do believe they all bring something that Boston lacks aswell and have a much higher potential
Watching some of Frondell and Eklund down the stretch has been fun. Both really great players, but one thing that has really stood out to me is Eklund's 'motor.' The dude flys all over the ice.

Frondell's production down the stretch here will push him into tier 1 IMO.

If the Bruins keep losing and end up at 5, Martone could fall to them since he is a winger. I'd be super happy with that.

Bruins need to keep falling in the standings. I do a bunch of draft lottery SIMs to distract myself from my work and every time the Bruins get pushed down the order by someone above them in the standings I just get devastated haha.

Took me 7 tries for the SIM to get the B`s the #2 pick, stayed at 8 for the most times, either way, in the lottery as of today so I`m oddly happy seeing what we are seeing

Button compares Martone to current NHL stars Matthew and Brady Tkachuk as well as Corey Perry, saying all of them possess the ability to be difference-makers when it matters most.

“Porter Martone, he’s a winner,” said Button. “He’s in it to win it. There might be players with a little more skill and a little more flash and dash. I go into a game that I know is going to be hard, I want Porter Martone on my team.”

Despite missing four and a half months with a back injury that required rest to heal, Brandon Wheat Kings forward Roger McQueen comes in at No. 5.

McQueen returned to the Wheat Kings lineup in early March, finishing the season with 10 goals and 20 points in 17 games. He will also have the opportunity to play postseason games with Brandon already clinching a playoff spot.

He had a hot start to the season with eight goals and three assists in eight games, including four goals in Brandon’s season opener, before being shelved with the injury.

“He’s not a wild card because of his skill or his potential, he’s a wild card because of that type of injury,” said Button. “I feel really lucky because I’ve been able to watch him for three years and I’ve seen progression and how gifted he is.”

The 18-year-old is already 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, and after managing just 14 points in 55 games as a rookie in 2022-23, McQueen made a massive leap last season with 21 goals and 51 points in 53 games. He also helped Canada win gold medals at the U18s and Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

might be wrong but I believe our friend Dom felt Frondell the most NHL ready, correct if I`m wrong Dom please

At this point, I might be the only one who would take Frondell ahead of Martone.

I don't like how his production has dropped off. We will see how he handles the playoffs.

The way Martone plays is hard to maintain over 68 games, let alone 82.

It's insane that anyone thinks it won't be McQueen.

It has to be a big guy that is a massive gamble. Sweeney cannot resist the gamble, and you know it.

The back problems makes the pick too risky. Bruins need at the very least a top 6 player from this pick. They would probably be better off going someone else, if given the option.

Don't you see? This is exactly why they'll take him when he falls to 8-9-10. Sweeney NEEDS the risk.

Why else would you pay Sway when he has no leverage in a holdout? The risk fuels Sweeney. He can't function without it.

I read an interview with him when he came back from his injury and he said it was some fractures in a place that just requires extra time to heal vs. disk or soft tissue back issues.

Didn't really sound like a persistent thing.

McQueen not laying waste in the WHL to date should be the real concern, I'd imagine.

Roger McQueen is most likely to be a Bruin if the math doesn't go funny. But if the math goes funny, we'll bink a top pick.
We are not a favorite in the league that gets things rigged for us, like the Pens. However, I think the league does not want the Bruins down long. I have a strong hunch the lottery will help us, perhaps help considerably.

Buffalo beats the Senators and moves to 64 points with 70 GP. They play the Penguins next, the Flyers twice, the Bruins, and the Senators again to end the season. Maybe they could go on a mini run to end the season?

Just to clarify, I assume the 2nd sentence is about Martone, but not sure. martone scares me a bit, because a lo of his success is just being a lot bigger, stronger and more physical than the opposition. Doe it hold up when he is not longer so much bigger (always in in fear of Jordan Caron  )

He is a gamble on so many levels. A gamble because he is so much older than some of the other players. A gamble because honestly he has missed much of the year of development. A gamble because of the big guy scenario (is it his skill or just being bigger than others), and a gamble because of his skating. And a gamble because his one ice production just doesn't match the hype

McQueen has some chances in postseason to add to his resume, we will see if he can put together a postseason run, it could move him up , or he could fall.

I don't believe Boston can afford the gamble, but there is a chance that he will be the highest rated player on their board in june. At this point I wouldn't touch him.
