2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

For the people that watched the U18's, what did you think of Theo Stockselius? Really liked what I saw from the small snippets I was able to see. Probably projects more as a winger in the NHL as he's apparently not that good at faceoffs, but he's a good skater at 6'3", got playmaking skills, good shot... If we somehow gain a 2nd round pick I hope he's on Steens radar.
I can’t say he really stood out to me. He was on the Swedes 3rd line. It was their top 2 lines that made all the noise for the most part.

Kid has had a rough go of it though. Battled through things almost no 17 yr old has to - broken femur and thyroid cancer. My understanding is he’s all good now but to Perry’s point, I could see the cancer making some teams gun shy. His thyroid gland was enlarged so my understanding is it was completely removed. So that’d mean he’ll need hormone replacement for the rest of his life. Not sure if there’s any potential issues wirh that? The thyroid controls metabolism and that’s certainly important for a pro athlete but if the drugs basically take care of that then maybe he’d be just fine. Idk. I think there’s a few doctors that post here so maybe they’d have a better idea what all that might impact. Or if there’s much likelihood of his cancer returning or metastasizing elsewhere.

Doubt he ends up a Blue as he seems super unlikely to be drafted at 19 but also sounds like he should be long gone before the Blues pick again in the 5th round but regardless of what team he goes to, I’ll be rooting for him.

Don't know if the Blues would consider a 6'0" LHD at 19, but this kid has a glowing review and is probably going to make some team pick him above some of the other "name" guys like Fiddler or Boumedienne:

He is helluva player. If he were 2 inches taller would be top 10 pick.

I like him. Currently have him at 20 but tbh, the group I have from 16-24 I find pretty much interchangeable. But a 6’0” LD? I never advocate drafting for need but in this case, I’d see a tie and definitely not go with another LD.

Dear lord! Talk about a hot take…. Ferrari’s new list is…..bold….
Kind of all over the place! It's good to have different perspectives, so I guess it's good to have some alternative takes on guys like Carbonneau, Atcheson, Reid, Nesbitt, and Ryabkin.

Here is a link for those that haven't seen it yet.

FTR, here's what he defines his criteria as:
While size on the extreme ends matters, it is not a deciding factor for me on a player. If an undersized player doesn't let his size hinder him, I believe the tools and skills will work out. If a player is 6-foot-6 but can't skate, I am less inclined to value that player because height doesn't equal talent.
For traits, I value intelligence, mobility, skill and the ability to chain plays together. Physicality is valuable but often overrated because hitting everything that moves is usually a bad decision. Functional physicality is the name of the game. You can hit another player all you want, but if it's two seconds after a pass or you are just hitting a guy with no intention of recovering the puck, it's useless and often takes you out of the play.

Wow Kash at 46 😊 I’m just hoping he drops to 19

46. Kashawn Aitcheson, D, Barrie (OHL), 6-foot-1, 185 pounds

Corey Pronman dropped a mock draft yesterday. The Blues selected Lyden Lakovic with #19. I don’t like that pick, but players that were still on the board there were:
  • Josh Ravensbergen
  • Blake Fiddler
  • Milton Gastrin
  • Logan Hensler
  • Jack Nesbitt
  • Henry Brzustewicz
  • Malcolm Spence
  • Bill Zonnon
So if things go Corey’s way, we should at least have some legit guys to choose from at 19.

I’m just not sure what to think of Reschny.

What are your thoughts on Lackovic? I think he may be there when we draft.
He’s big, he’s a zone entry machine, and he can pick his spots when he shoots.

But he is soft. If you were a fan of Zach Sanford, you’ll love Lakovic. He can enter the zone well, but he doesn’t use his size or strength to do anything when he gets there. He easily gets bullied off of pucks along the wall, and it seems like it’s easy to intimidate him into making bad decisions by just skating threateningly towards him.

If you’re frustrated by the lack of 200-foot game in guys like Kyrou, you won’t like Lakovic. He uses this short stick (way shorter than you would expect for someone his size) which is apparently helpful to him offensively, but it makes stick checking difficult and limits his reach. Again, he doesn’t use his body defensively. He is just straight up not good at getting the puck back for himself.

Someone will take him because of his projectable tools and size, but I would be at least a little confused and frustrated if we took him at 19. I don’t see any of the traits that we tend to covet. If we take him, I think it won’t be because he is “the best of the rest,” but because he’s the last guy available that we like.

Would be pissed if we passed up Hensler if he's available there.

I’m starting to come around a bit on Reschny. The production speaks for itself, although the occasional dropoff at international competition is cause for some concern. But from what I’ve seen, he’s around the net and creating for himself a lot more than I expected. He’s very good at manipulating space, and finding seams between defenders from anywhere/everywhere. I wouldn’t call him a defensive stalwart, but he’s engaged and you can tell he cares about all 200 feet. He’s surprisingly good on the dot: 56% last season.

If we take him at 19, I’ll get why. I still think his size makes him less attractive than some others, but I’m starting to see the appeal
