2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

Misa's ceiling isnt even higher than Martone, Frondell. Higher floor yes but he's certainly not this years Demidov
Probably same ceiling as Martone, but Misa has much higher odds of reaching it. He's a sure thing.

62 goals don't lie.

Hasn't been done in the OHL since D+1 DeBrincat. (of course Lardis also did it this season)

The last draft year OHLer to do it? Patrick Kane.

The prophecy writes itself.

Misa has the clear highest ceiling among forwards imo. Martone maybe reaches the same total production, Frondell maybe scores more goals, but the best version of Misa brings an elite, complete offensive package as a solid 200ft center. And as a bonus he perfectly fits the team this org is trying to build with his speed and compete. Match made in heaven

I know some don’t like this, but i think it’s relevant.

Misa at 2nd oa has gone from -10000 to -5000 to now -1400. Frondell has gone from +2000 to +800 at 2nd oa. Not trying to get hopes up or anything, but I think these facts do interest people closely following what could happen on draft day.
Because money isn't going to keep flowing into Misa at -10000. It's a bad bet. Sports books abhor those.

Idk I just don't see the vision and play creation that everyone else seems to that a centre of his size would need to thrive in the NHL

Im not just disparaging this kid because he's going to the Sharks, Ive been whelmed by him this entire time. I just don't get excited watching him play

I agree actually that he definitely has more holes than given credit for. Or weaknesses lets say.

But the other guys have so many more, or much more glaring. I think there is clear separation.

Taking a complimentary Frondell over Misa would be comical to me. I hope it happens.

Idk if im drinking the kool-aid but I'd genuinely be fine with Misa or Frondell at this point, I think Frondell adds an element we are so sorely lacking with a ceiling that with the optimal developement would be the perfect player to play with Bedard in his prime. And on top of all that his style seems like a great fit for playoff hockey

good kool-aid to be drinking because they'll likely get one of them

This is how I feel too.

I would be happy with either.

I dug up a scouting report for Tuomo Ruutu (He seems so much like Frondell minus the rocket shot)

Hurricanes Trade Tuomo Ruutu To New Jersey For Andrei ...

Tuomo Ruutu was a Finnish professional hockey player known for his tenacious, physical style of play. He was a versatile forward who could play both center and wing, and he was known for his strong work ethic and ability to agitate opponents. However, his career was also hampered by injuries, stemming from his aggressive style.

Here's a more detailed scouting report:
Strengths:
  • Physicality and Agitation:
Ruutu was renowned for his aggressive, hard-hitting style and his ability to get under opponents' skin.

  • Versatility:
He could play both center and wing, making him a valuable asset to any team.

  • Work Ethic:
Ruutu was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to battle for pucks.

  • Defensive Awareness:
He was a responsible defensive player, often assigned to shut down top opposing forwards.

  • Leadership:
While not a traditional leader, his work ethic and competitiveness inspired his teammates.
Weaknesses:
  • Injury History:
Ruutu's aggressive style of play led to numerous injuries throughout his career, including hip, ankle, and back problems.

  • Inconsistency:
He could be prone to stretches of inconsistent play, sometimes struggling to maintain his high level of intensity and effectiveness.

  • Offensive Consistency:
While he had moments of offensive brilliance, he wasn't a consistent point producer at the NHL level.

  • Plus/Minus:
His career plus/minus rating was a negative number, indicating he was on the ice for more goals against than for, likely due to his high-risk style and defensive zone play.
Overall:
Ruutu was a valuable player when healthy, providing a blend of physicality, versatility, and defensive responsibility. However, his injury history and inconsistent offensive production limited his overall impact. He was a player who thrived on intensity and physicality, but his style also made him susceptible to injuries.
