Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

Where did I say you MUST have played for your opinion to be valid? There are lots of people in the game that have never played at a high level (though I genuinely wonder how many have never played at all). But those people have worked their ass off to work their way up the ladder and show their worth to be where they are. Good for them, they deserve it. That has nothing to do with my comment on Musto. Musto has horrible takes that he refuses to acknowledge, let alone back down from, and does it all with an “I’m smarter than you” undertone that rubs many, including me, the wrong way. The fact that he never played simply lines up with his other negative qualities and makes sense.
I’d separate coaches from executives here. It’s really hard to coach a sport well without having some reasonably high level of play. Occasionally happens but pretty rare. GM types and everyone who works below them though? Very different. Other than just straight up early exposure/interest and what really seems to matter more, connections, I don’t think it’s as vital and possibly not vital at all. That so many GMs are ones that had extensive playing careers is really more so a case of fast tracking/nepotism/cronyism/old boys club than a case where it’s like “Kevin Lowe is just a truly brilliant hockey mind”.

Highlights are available for all of these guys. Maybe I’ll take a look at the top 6 for a day and have a better opinion.

Hard to gauge still because I’m not sure how well these CHL plays translate to the NHL. Tough call. I wonder how the pro scouts manage that

He mentions it's because of his skating.

Honeslty, I would be so very surprised if the staff liked him. Mostly because of his effort and pace. It's so against their MO. I know KD said they're open to bringing in something different, and I guess at times he shows some extra effort albeit so very few of it (and he justifies it being fine too). Still I think he's too far away from what they like.

I also didn't like this response from him if I'm being honest:

Martone admitted some teams pressed him in interviews about his lack of pace, but he had a response for that, too. After his OHL season, inclusion on Canada’s world championships roster capped off his spring.

“I just proved at the world championships that I can keep up with [NHL players] and play with them,” Martone said. “I played with [Macklin] Celebrini and [Travis] Konecny, two very high-paced players, in the pre-tournament [exhibition], and I kept up with them and made plays.”

I think there is a decent gap between Misa and the next forward personally. I can squint and see it with Martone, Desnoyers, Hagens at 3, only player I'm not really that big a fan of is Frondell.

I think Desnoyers is the lowest ceiling player of the guys in the poll.. maybe that stinks at 3, but he's atleast a center.

I assume details and habits are a huge focus, for bigger guys maybe a higher focus on pace (and consistency at pace).

When I watch juniors I'm always really interested in how players come off the boards or draw defenders to the boards. So much open ice in juniors and the easy play is usually there, but pucks along the boards usually closes some space and offers an easy play and a best play.

Montreal guys floating idea Habs trade upto #3to get Desnoyers giving CHI picks #16,17 41 and 49..

Chi does not need so many more draft picks...But if can maneuvered with other deakscyo get #4or# 5 back from either Utah or Nashville for #16#17 and #49 then moving back 1 or 2 spots after 2 deals is fine with me since we get that extra #41puck...might be able to package #41 and#62 to move back upto late 20s or as far as #32 to get a 3rd firstcroubder.

Howver KD woukdvneed to have the otger deals in place before he made the first deal with Montreal.

But we shall see.

I woukd go down as faras#6 butPHI already has multiple first so doubt they would do it..If Utah or Nashville would take #16+#17+ #49 to move back then I take the Montreal deal. Ahead of that 2nd deal.
But if unsure I could get #4or#5 ,I do not think KF would do it he first deal.

That kind of quantity of quality works way more in football than in hockey

The draft gurus all say theres a top 2 (Schaefer and Misa) and then a next two (Hagens and Martone). The blackhawks insiders keep pressing that its (Frondell or Desnoyers).

Hope Davidson just throwing smoke.

If Hagens is the best player going forward. Take him and figure out size later.

NHL scouts and executives disagree with the internet guru’s.

Corey Pronman just released his NHL draft confidential for those of you who have an athletic sub. It’s a fantastic read.

I’ll say this, after Schaefer there really isn’t a consensus. Several scouts had a combination of Hagens, Misa, Frondell, Desnoyers and one even said Martone. (As their second prospect)

I don’t really like Pronman but that article was 10/10.

I would not be surprised to see the Sharks take Martone if the Isles take Schaefer.

Or ...the Isles take Hagens the Sharks take Schaefer and we take Misa...

Here’s a sample

Scout 2: “We have Schaefer, then a gap. (Anton) Frondell is No. 2 for us. He’s a potential (Aleksander) Barkov/(Anze) Kopitar type of forward.”

Scout 3: “(Michael) Misa should be No. 1, even ahead of Schaefer. I don’t understand why he’s not getting as much hype as previous top OHL guys, when he’s been just as good, if not better, than some of the top Ontario kids in recent years. He could be an NHL superstar.”

Scout 4: “Schaefer is the top player by a good margin, then it would either be Frondell or Hagens. Misa I think is getting overrated — his compete level is average and he’s not as dynamic as some portray.”

Executive 4: “Schaefer and Misa distinguished themselves from the pack. Then it’s Desnoyers and Frondell in a group with Martone on the edge of that group. I expect that combination of players will make up the first five picks.”

All I know is that there is a lot of bluffing and misdirection going on from teams because they don't want other teams to know who they're really after.
KD is not a bluffer. He is very easy to read. All our picks get leaked. He’s basically Bad Brad from Mollys Game
