2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

"Davidson didn’t mention specific players on Thursday. But my educated guess is the Blackhawks look at Anton Frondell and Caleb Desnoyers with the third pick if Michael Misa is gone, or choose Misa if he’s available." This was the most interesting tidbit from Powers interview with Davidson.

If Misa is there at 3 and they don't pick him... I'll flip the f*** out.

The interesting tidbit is him saying center v wing won’t matter and that they will consider going outside of their normal criteria. (Paraphrasing a bit)

To me, this gives the idea of taking Martone some hope.

I think so too. But from Davidson´s comments it sounds like they haven´t made their declension yet and I like it if I don´t have to read it week before the draft from Scott Powers X.

I´ve made my mind already if that matters at all but I would be targeting Martone if Misa is gone.

But if I’m betting my own money I’d say Desnoyers or Frondell.

My first thought too.

Interesting if they're really opening up to different kind of players. Really don't want to give away their hand that's for sure.

The way I am reading both articles it just seems like Frondell is the pick. All the smoke points that way IMO.

The more I watch him the more I want him on the team. Big cerebral shoot first guy, 200ft game, and controls the boards. Really the perfect guy to play with CB.

No thank you on that.

I genuinely feel like Desnoyers would be a terrible choice in the top 3.

It's almost the opposite for me. Like he's the safe sexy pick. Hagens is extremely talented. He was going through the motions and put up a ppg. You'd like more but his floor is Schmaltz. His ceiling is Cooley+.
Wow, that’a a great selling point, let’s take the guy who “was going through the motions”.

What I get from reading most of the comments in this thread is everyone is looking to hit a home run with the #3 pick, in my opinion that player just may not be available this year unless you are willing to take a massive gamble on someone like McQueen.

At the end of the day the Hawks need to come away with a player who will contribute in a significant way with the 3OA pick. It is highly unlikely that contribution will be as an elite offensive player BUT significant contributions can be made in others ways such as solid two way play, a match up player who can neutralize other teams offensive weapons and a PK stud. Personally I think Desnoyers fits that description more than any other option available to the Hawks.

If Davidson wants to take a swing on an offensive guy who could potentially break through as an elite scorer and future #1 centre than O’Brien has the most untapped potential and again in my opinion would be a better gamble than Hagens.

I hope to hear something interesting from Doneghey because Davidson keep saying the same shit without evaluating the players. All statements are smoke.

Reading the Blackhawks are considering two 5'10 players as two Centers 1-2 in the future, I simply cannot take it seriously.

IDK why they would deviate from their strategy to stick with specific traits they think will project well to the NHL, Bowman strategy seemed to deviate a lot year to year and it didn't work out for him, stick to what you believe in

Not a 200 foot guy, not anywhere close. Good in the offensive zone, good in the defensive zone yes. Transition game is glaring weakness. Zone exits, neutral zone possession, controlled entries all tracked very poorly and is graded poorly by most all of the media scouts.

Is that data from the Elite Prospects guide? If so, how do the zone exits, neutral zone possession, and controlled entries look for the other players in consideration for #3?

Yeah but similarly reported by other outlets and models I have seen.

Transition Grades Tracking Sample (1-99)
Eklund- 84
Frondell- 8
Misa-90
Martone-96
Hagens-92
Desnoyers- 77

That Martone number is interesting because he does get Matty Tkachuk comps for his brain and power projection and I've seen him go into the Kronwall death area fight for the puck and work a give and go and you can see exactly where that number is coming from. Tkachuk has become the master of this and it drives possession numbers....detailed and difficult play, not sexy, hugely important and impactful over 60 minutes.

Does that factor hes playing against men instead of kids?
