2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

The concerns that I keep seeing online about Frondell all stem from his hockey sense; play recognition, playmaking, etc. I can't recall a player who was physically gifted with questionable hockey sense having their projection take off after being drafted. I can think of a lot of guys who teams would regret drafting as high as they did based on the tools without the brain.
I haven’t heard any concerns about his hockey sense but I have heard concerns over his lack of creativity and his skating which isn’t elite. Basically, the concerns are that he’s not super flashy.

No, Kotkaniemi is like a 25 point player. He’s legitimately terrible.

At 3, I think all of these players lumped together have 2nd line potential. In his draft, it was baffling he got picked over Tkachuk, Hughes, Dobson, Bouchard etc.
He averages 33 points per 82 games with 13:40 ice time. He’s a 3C basically. Also an above 50% faceoff guy. Not 3rd overall quality but not terrible. He’s basically what a lot of people thought he’d be.

Probably not because it´s one of his strengths. But I´ve made my mind. If it ain´t Misa I´m going with Martone or Hagens. Davidson can you here me?

Should they take a flyer on Ivan Ryabkin with one of their later picks? Read somewhere that Ryabkin was considered as good as or an even better prospect than Demidov before the former's disastrous last season in Russia, and his scoring has returned since moving over to the USHL.

He is a high risk/high reward kind of pick. Talent is there but the character is questionable.

Kyle Davidson inherited a horrible coach, fired him, brought in a back up, fired him, hired a coach, fired him, brought in a back up, moved on, hired a new coach.

I'm sorry, that's ridiculous. Ol Kyle needs to draft the best player available no matter what position at every pick or trade picks and get proven talent and start winning right now.

Kyle Davidson doesn't have a plan, and that in itself is the problem.

If Hagens is there at three (I don't think he will be) you take him. Hagens is the best player in this draft outside of Schaefer. I have followed Misa longer then everyone here and even got into a debate with one of the mods about him what, two years ago? That he would be a better pro then Bedard, which may be true considering I never bought into the Bedard hype that strong and his current progression in the nhl is more top line player on a bad team then franchise savior, Hagens is better then both.

That said, at this moment, I think the Hawks will draft Misa unless the Islanders take Schaefer. I do not buy into "internet scouts" without vetted sources, draft rankings with pay tiers, or media personalities who are hand fed info from organizations to write about, especially local media who were either told to shut up about a certain scandal or were clueless to begin with.

Seriously, how can someone who never played in the NHL tell Hagens what it takes to be an NHL player?

Not true at all.
Two years in a row one of the worst teams in hockey begs to differ.

If anybody is in that whole "they're losing on purpose for high draft picks" camp when there's grown ass men playing on that team I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

What's the tally currently on head coaches?

It's 2025, this team can't even figure out how to get their team on cable but the useless gm has a plan?

So it goes....Schaefer and Hagens or Hagens and Schaefer .....then Misa ?

Misa falling the the Hawks wouldn't be so bad would it ?

I think Hagens goes first.

Misa at three would be great. I said two years ago Misa will be the player everyone thought Bedard would be. That said I think Hagens is a better offensive player similar to Patrick Kane while Misa turns into a LaFontaine type.

Are you getting concerned with the Yzerplan after your Wings got stuck in the mud this year and your captain expressed discontent feelings over lack of big TDL move?

I’ve followed that trolls posts for years and have seen the Red Wings comment about him a few times. Does he actually post on their board or what is the basis for that? I don’t ever look at their board.

Mason West has reportedly decided to commit to hockey over football. Should be firmly in play for the Blackhawks at 25 or 34 imo.
West is a longshot project. 64 is the earliest you start to look at a player like that.

You're basically teaching an athlete how to play hockey. He's a physical specimen, but he's way behind his peers.

That is something the Hawks like, but at 25 and 34, you're cleaning up quality fallers. Not the place to jump the gun.

Post proof I post on the Wings forum.

Or better yet, focus on the draft instead of me. It's sort of creepy.

Last years picks Pridham and Henry are like that.

Idk how anyone who is not a scout has the time to watch as much hockey as Musto claims he does. He has an opinion on everyone.

As I said in the text you quoted, "that is something the Hawks like"

Pridham, late 3rd round
Henry, 6th round

Advocating for West in the 1st round is too soon.

I certainly don't have opinions on everyone.

It's really just projected 1st and 2nd rounders.

In the case of West, there's been a lot of intrigue surrounding him in the scouting circles. Big kid, good skater, August birthday, and a dual sport athlete. There were concerns with him because he was playing high school hockey, but toward the end of the season he got some USHL games in and didn't look out of place.

I just meant that you're potentially drafting a player with a below average offensive ceiling in the top 3. The Hawks liked Kotkaniemi that year but he rose up the boards because he was one of the few centers projected to go that high iirc
