2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Who should we pick 3rd overall (assuming Schaefer and Misa are gone)?

Knee injuries really aren't what they used to be and its not that big of a deal, but I personally would just like to avoid guys who are missing time. Sometimes it works out like Nazar but most of these guys are really close in that third pick range. To me a knee injury can help separate the list a little.

I could see NYI taking Hagens honestly. Not at 1, but just decide they want Hagens. They're emotionally beat up after JT leaving and Hagens would definitely play his whole career on the Island if the team wanted it.

I wouldn't love the pick if it's Martone. I get the idea of a big forward to pair with Bedard and he's big with vision and hands. But so is Pat Maroon. His skating does not look good.

I'd rather use #3OA on a guy who's a better skater and use later picks on guys with this profile and less regarded and try to improve their skating. I'll also say that I don't fully understand how some guys improve their skating and some guys don't.

From David St Louis’s EP scouting report for Martone in the Canadia v Austria game.

“Porter Martone's skating has rarely looked as good as in this game this season. Forced to play at a higher pace, he was using crossovers to add bursts to his forward strides, catching up to opponents and getting ahead of them in the neutral zone. He made picks plays to create space for teammates, pushed the line of defence as F1 off the rush, got involved defensively, and went to the net, finding space at the far post for passes. He almost scored from that position.“

This is just a snippet, but obviously provides some validation to the reports that his skating has taken significant strides this season.

This narrative is off the rails at this point.

Pat Maroon?!?!? lol

I can't see them picking Hagens 1st overall.

Although I could be wrong.

I still hope that we'll be able to nab Misa.
According to PuckPedia it would cost the Hawks both their 1sts and 2nds plus the FLA 1st in 26 to move up to 1...I'd just keep the assets and bet on the field to be better than Misa tbh and maybe you get lucky and NYI goes for the hometown kid that played with Eiserman in Hagens and Misa slides anyway

If NYI goes Hagens, then one of Misa/Schaefer will be there at 3 anyway.

Yes, that brain dead narrative that you seem to have latched onto.

Comparing his skating to Pat Maroon makes you look incredibly foolish.

But go on…
I watched his highlight reel from this year and I don't like his skating. So give me a little more credit than that. I didn't compare his skating to Patrick Maroon's. I said Martone is big, has good hands, and good vision and so does Pat Maroon. My point was that you can have all of those things but if you can't skate well, your impact will be limited.

So I'm not saying a big guy can't skate. I'm saying I watched his tape and I don't like his skating. Can his skating improve? Sure. Maybe it will but I'd rather not gamble #3OA on it.

Same shit, different day about this board not being honest with ourselves. It's a bit preachy that there's dishonesty for not liking Frondell at #3.

Could Frondell be the Hawks pick? Absolutely. Same with Desnoyers, Hagens, and Martone. It's not an exact science.

It’s totally okay to not like him as a prospect. My point is that he, based on everything we know, is the most likely player to be the pick.

Top 2025 NHL Draft prospect Anton Frondell is set to undergo knee surgery, shares Djugardens IF insider Robin Fredriksson. No timeline for a return has been revealed. It’s Frondell’s second major lower-body injury in as many years.

I cannot find the nature and extent of the injuries. We don't
need another Tuomo Ruutu.

This was in December? He’s played like 35 games since then. Demidov also had knee surgery last year. I don’t think anyone even remembers that by now.

Martone should play a year of college, imo. The pace is a lot quicker than junior, it'd be a good intermediary step for a guy like him.
would help out their efforts for McKenna as well...know they do not want to be in that position but its best for the long run to have another crack at a 1st overall pick

I am warming up to the idea of Martone. I think he brings an element that very few if any bring in this draft and that is sand paper...mixed with skill.

He is a Thackuk-mold. You can't find those types of players anymore. I think anyone on this site would want a Thachuk for the rebuild. I get the skating is an issue, but Matthew is one of the slowest skaters in the league and does just fine.

Martone or Frondell are my picks at 3
