2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Philly is probably the team to talk to about moving up as they have 7 picks in the first two rounds.

Id rather chase Brady Martin or Cole Reschny on a trade up.

We need true centers which I like in Brady Martin. I also like Reschny cause I think he has a ton of upside with his offensive IQ. Also tenacious. Less sure he’s a center though.
Why chase 3rd liners, when Potter actually has 1st line upside?

You don't draft for need

Would love to trade up for Martin. He'd compliment our skill guys so well, without being an offensive blackhole. Great story too, you won't outwork that guy.

I like Potter. I’d be interested in him too. I’m not sure he’s got 1W upside but maybe. I think Brady Martin can be a good 2C, maybe 3C. But we need centers bad. I think Reschny has Top 6 wing upside.
I think he's far off from being a 1W, but I do think the ceiling is there. His combination of skating, puckhandling, and rate of improvement... I'm hard pressed to find anyone else in the class like him.

Yeah I wouldn't rule out Martin as a 2C, I just think 3C is more likely for him.

I don't think I view center as that much of a pressing issue. Of course you can never have enough of them. But we have Bedard, Nazar, Greene, Boisvert, Veleno, and I imagine their first pick in the draft will be a center... I don't think it's that dire. I have more issue with the lack of high end wings.

I think I'll have to circle back on Reschny. I thought he was a skilled player but had some questionable consistency shift-to-shift, but seems like he really elevated in the playoffs.

Potter?

Move up from the Toronto pick.
Cullen Potter seems like 2025 Version of Darren Helm . Kyle needs to think BIGGER . Think of our Team as a navy , We have lot's of PT boats already (Speedy/smaller) we need more battleships, destroyer's ,sub's !!

But cone in...Bedard,Nazar ,Hagens..then Lardis..=way too snalk cannot havevtgat many shrimps bo matter how goid. And not certain Hagebsvis tgat goidvor inoactful..

Maybe Hawks shoukd trade down if Philly wants Hagens or Martone ..if Martone not KD's "type". The problem with KD's "type" is that you cannit ot have 3 let alo e 4 shrimps in your top six...OERIOD.

Pass on Hagens ..true down ..Philly has 3 firsts.. Trade down tor their own first ofthe three plus 1 ottgebither firstsctgey have. other..IF they so desperately would take Hagens or Martone or love Frondell..

One ofctge biggest surprises at the Workdvu-18s has benntgecrekentless play of UDA's Jacob Kvasnika...terrific forechecjet/motor /conpete and surrisibg scoribg.. But does not matter if heas only ranked #152= considered only 4th June ceiling g..the factvus he and Canada'sBrady Martin are tge 2 most dynamic/energetic/great forecheckers /disruptions in this drFt to my eyes..

Yes HawksxwNt higher rated guys projectdxzas top line or 2nd line impact guys..but a 3rd or 4th line featuring the relentless work and co Pete that screams "NHL pro" that you see in Martin and KvSnicja's work ethic ...wellof you put them on a kibe together thevopos would never get out of their own zone..
Craig Button said do not be surprised if Martin goes higher than the consensus (teens( rankibgbin roubdvone..But Kvasnicka also has shown he coukd be just as imoactfulk as a corechecker and pk guy ..

If you want to add such relentless energetic disruptions to a team mix and have multiple firsts ,you coukd do worse forctotL i part than by landing Both of this "type" of certain pros inpactful guys..making pkays of tge forecheck..break-aways .witbtgeircspeed...tgecdescrjotion is Relenrless..Cobsistent...compete.. work their assessment off.

What teM woukd not want to add THAT?

Excellent deep dive analysis on Locked On Prospects yesterday on Big 6'5 190 lb Muskegeon Lumberjacks winger Vaclav Nestrasil who has sone raw elements but is violent physical and a power forward with very good skills...he will get bigger and stronger adding to his lanky frame and that coukd be scarey.....different rankings on him ...most have him 2ndcroubd ..but elite Prospects has him26th in roubd 1 and Dobber has hom30th..

Sebastian High who is the USHL scout for Ekite Prospects was the analyst on that youtube podcast yesterday giving us his take on Nestrasil...

So do not know if he goes off tte bjard even earlier than26th ..but our Leafs first rounder slot could be anywhere from 27-32...so may miss out on him unless KD pulls ofca Boisvert.

So the question I have is this:

Do the Hawks need a Big physical yet promising with the skilks Power Forward who is violent and going to be bigger and scarier once he fikksvout the lanky frame?

I do not think KD has any sort of balanced roster without such a "type"..they cannot alk be shrimps speedster who not only can get pushed aroubd in regukarxseason..but you know will not be as I.oactful in the more rugged pkayoffs.

At sone point KD mist diversify his "types" and add size and physicality pkayers but with the promise of goid skills.

Shoukd KD hold position and hope he falls to us ..or should he pull a let's gamblevo the projection and package the Keafs pick and ourcearky 2nd to ensure we get this giy off tge biard beforehand other teams snaps hon up?

He will go to UMASS next seadon ..
The finished product could add 20 -30 lbs to his frame before he leaves school after 2-3colkege seasons..

I think our lineup for a Cup run team will needscthisxtypecpf pkayer.

It'd cost a lot to get up to snag Martin. Martin is likely top 15. We'd have a much better chance at my boy Cootes, Rescchny, or Kindel than him.

I'd love any of Martin, Cootes, Kindel, or Reschny, but at this point, I don't think we can get any of them without a trade up. Reschny's price is probably cheapest of them all.

Let's say the leafs end up netting us 28th oa. We also have pick 34. The value of pick 34 + 28 would get us pick 18. If we add the other Dallas 2nd round pick, that'd net us pick 15-16. These values are all per puck pedia's calculator and you have to take into account a small overpay because all the most recent trade ups were slight overpays (aggressors always overpay).

I bet one of Kindel, Reshny, and Cootes are there at 18. I'd bet 2 of the 3 are there at 15. Martin is more than not gone by 15 from given information.
