2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Any similarities between desoyners and Scheifele ?

Scheifele "slipped" to 7th overall his draft year. That would
be a great consolation prized if we drop to 3rd or 4th .

I haven't watched him much (planning to catch us much of the series with Moncton as I can) but other reports seem to disagree and say that he plays fast.
That's not what I'm saying.

He's a high motor, high pace player, but his skating mechanics are horrid.

The negative is if you pick 4th you might be taking a 3C if they don’t hit their ceiling.

You might pick 2nd and that player whoever it could be might not hit his ceiling or even worst become a bust. Kind of class is half empty reacting to this situation.

Mckeggs guy Mads Kongsbak Kylvo with 2 goals 2 assists in 2 games in the U18 D1A division for Denmark. 6'2" power forward that's game isn't centered around production. I wonder if scouts are taking notice and someone nabs him in round 1
Another goal and assist mid-way through his 4th game. Has 3 goals 4 assists in 4 games. Dark horse for round 1

I think I like frondell 6-1 200 lbs may birth day. with missing alot of time last year and off season and at his size his skating looks solid. Im trying to understand why with his shot and his size and his willing to hit and battle why he is not in the mix at 2? Maybe he is. for the hawks I rank him #2. great shot, can win board battles, willing to make the easy play and dump it in. kind of sounds like exactly what we are missing. We dont win board battles at least not the young guys. we turn the puck over at the blue line way to much and we tend to over pass and not put shots on goal. I know its just high light scouting videos but watch his and misa and his looks better knowing he is playing in a men's league.

He's not in the mix because he cant handle the puck much, lacks in the playmaking department, has questions about his skating and overall offensive ceiling. Yes his board battles, physicality and shot are great for sure. But so is Brady Martin's btw, and he shouldn't be talked about at 2 either.

Top 5 you want guys who can be play drivers and difference makers. Frondell better be extremely elite at all his strength to be worth a top 5 pick with those weaknesses.

I like Desnoyers more than him honeslty. I think Frondell is heavily benefitting from Eklund's creation. He will be a very good complimentary player in the NHL, but the opportunity cost is crazy in the top 5. You could be taking Misa, Martone, Eklund, Hagens - all who are creating for others like Frondell, who are driving the play. I strongly think Frondell ends up a wing at the NHL, where he will be good but not top 5 good.

As a trade up candidate? Sure. With picks 6-8? Sure. I'd be really sad in the top 4 though.

I really don't like that channels scouting reports btw they are very surface level.

Check this one for some more angles and points about Frondell's projection:

Very well said.

I came across Simon St Laurent's channel last week, and he's very well informed. I find that a lot of my thoughts on this year's draft class align with his.

Absolutely, he's my favorite. He's much more critical and objective about the prospects. I think many channels only look at the specific year's current draft and compare/rank guys to each other solely, but he is providing a lot of context from previous drafts or projecting to the NHL game situations.

And his scouting report of Misa has me sweatingggggg. He doesn't rate his hockey sense much, and provides really strong examples for it. Also doesn't believe he's a center, which again based on his examples I understand fully. Misa will need to think more overall game and defense rather than cheating and jumping to the rush.

He's also really like Lardis in that way, I think @Castle8130 brought that comp up first. I think Misa will improve as he gets the NHL seasoning and coaching, but he also has his pronounced weaknesses as of right now.

Actually, Simon's comp for Misa is a less crazy Taylor Hall, which honeslty? I can see. And I don't know how to feel about that lol, Hall was obviously something bad here, his prime years though were great.

Yeah a lot of outlets just like to glaze every prospect. They act like everyone has top 6 upside. Reality isn't EA Sports. I like that St Laurent has realistic projections, and he backs it up.

Misa would never play center in Chicago anyway. He'd be on Bedard's wing.

In a stronger draft, would Misa be ranked at #4? Sure. But in this year's class he's pretty firmly at the #2 spot.

In terms of hustle and compete level, sure, but Zonnon's skating is nightmarish

Scott Wheeler disagrees.

He plays a versatile game that impresses both on but especially off the puck, where he keeps his feet moving, works, finds space, gets to loose pucks, forces turnovers and tracks. Nobody works harder. He can play both center and wing. He’s fast and he plays like it. He’s got a real B game, playing in bursts to apply pressure and win a ton of races and 50/50 pucks. He’s competitive and has a good stick on lifts and disruptions. He makes plays quickly. He can be a menace on the forecheck. But he’s also got some vision, with an ability to find the secondary wave on the ice and get pucks off the wall and to the interior. His handling and skill aren’t dynamic but he can make plays and execute when opportunities present themselves and I’ve seen him push through plenty of holes in control. I expect him to have a long, successful pro career and think he’s got middle-six upside and a depth floor in terms of an NHL projection because of the way he involves himself in the play. I very nearly ranked him in the first round.

He doesn't disagree with me in any way.

I'm referring to Zonnon's skating mechanics.

He has a nonstop motor, but everything about how he moves is broken and inefficient.

He just manages to brute force through it because he's such a good athlete.

Unlike Wheeler, I do have him ranked in the first round.

Cootes playing 1st line with 3 assists already. Dude is a GAMER. He is a guy worth trading up for in my opinion. I knwo its not popular, but i thinkthere is a lot of untapped offensive upside

I've never in my life heard of a guy that was considered a fast skater by scouts with fundamentally broken skating mechanics.

Watching a quick youtube video on him, he looks a little straight-legged and his centre of gravity seems pretty high too. I'd agree if you simply said he had an inefficient stride, but I don't think he's a broken skater. Looks like he'd benefit from some flexibility training to open his hips more and getting his knees over his toes more.
