2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

The more I read about the forwards we potentially have to choose from in the 2-4 range(assuming we miss out on Schaefer at #1) the less excited I become. Wish someone like Misa or Hagens would have shown more signs of improvement/upside leading up to the draft. Instead it feels like the skepticism keeps growing. Hopefully whoever we pick proves the doubters wrong.
Well Hawks will have made a very high selection for a third straight draft with a bunch of excess high picks on top, so can't go around fretting about this guy or that guy not being this or that too much. You basically have had (close to) your pick of the litter for three straight age years so it just comes to making the right selections.

Why?

I've been respectful this whole time, and nothing I've said is unreasonable. Most scouts will tell you the same thing. I don't even have a unique opinion here.
Maybe just don't go around doing things like saying that Davidson is going to sprint to the podium to draft Sam Dickinson because he is the most similar to Korchinski whom Davidson considers to be the perfect hockey player... or giving the Hawks selection a big "F" when they draft a player well within range of consensus, like when they took Boisvert, because wasn't your guy. That stuff will help.

one of the hawks beat reporters mentioned MISA and Frondell as names he heard. that is who I guess we pick, both project as Centers. Hagens lack of size (might not project at center) and Martone lack of speed lead me to believe they are 4-7 along Eklund and desoyoners. on hawks list.

I think everyone agrees that if we pick 1OA, we are taking Schaefer, if 2OA - Misa right?

Who do you guys guys think the FO would lean at 3?

Eklund is the most KD/D type forward left.
Martone doesn't have the skating they usually look for.
Hagens has the skating but not the compete.
Desnoyers isn't their typical profile, but he has the compete and I think his skating could be projected to improve.
Frondell doesn't have the skating, although KD/D always likes a really good shot too, and obv. compete is there.
McQueen would be a target I think if healthy, but they didn't take medical red flags before.
O'Brian isn't their profile at all.

It's crazy that we could be talking about almost legit 10 guys all probable for the third overall pick. Lakovic and Bear even are the type they usually like, but 3/4 OA would be too high.

My money is on either them going off consensus a little bit and taking Eklund, or going off brand with Desnoyers/Frondell to compliment Bedard and the smaller guys.

Who do you guys have when considering KD/D's clear preference for skating, compete and scoring?
Ive been saying for a couple months that Desnoyers screams a KD pick

Those players have been over scouted if anything. Schaefer is benefiting hard from only having 17 or so games to analyze him.

We can all agree that McQueen is too much of a risk that outside of him falling dramatically to Leafs pick he should not even be on Hawks radar, right?
Unfortunately I think he's off the table. Unless Hawks have some medical info that says he's safe.

If he didn't have the injuries, I feel there's a decent chance he would've been their frontrunner at 3/4.
Grant McCagg disagrees with you on Desnoyers & Frondell

I've never liked McCagg's rankings so no surprise I disagree with him yet again.

maybe a little....but....you had 3 WJC prelim games, a game and a period in the WJC where he was dominatant and the WJC selection camp, plus an entire OHL season as a 16 year old, U18 and U17 tourneys. This is not the case of a mystery Russian not playing in international best on best.

It’s going to be Desnoyers or Frondell. Maaaaybe Hagens but I don’t think so.

I hope he trades up for Eklund and staples him to Bedard for the next decade. They would be great together.

Mckeggs guy Mads Kongsbak Kylvo with 2 goals 2 assists in 2 games in the U18 D1A division for Denmark. 6'2" power forward that's game isn't centered around production. I wonder if scouts are taking notice and someone nabs him in round 1

Love Desnoyers but Misa is still a tier above for me. Not that worried about the playoff series, where Saginaw was dealing with a ton of injuries and Misa may or may not have been playing hurt himself. You're trading in a little of Desnoyer's motor and edge for significantly better offensive tools across the board in Misa.

I really do think Desnoyers will be a significant offensive piece, contrary to the middle six ceiling narrative being thrown around, but there are relatively few scenarios where he becomes a superstar producer. Misa can be that guy
There’s a total of one guy saying middle 6 so far as I know.

If David Carle chooses to become Blackhawks next head coach it´s interesting to see if he could have a second opinion on James Hagens? Well there is many ifs there..

But still I can´t see any negative things about this draft. Blackhawks are in good spot to pick very talented player to their already loaded pool. If Hawks are picking 1-2 they can get either Schaefer or Misa. I would be very happy about that. I they pick 3-4 they could have Martone, Hagens, Frondell or Desnoyers. Nothing against that either.
