2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Desnoyers leading playoffs in scoring with 20 points in 9 games 6 ahead of the next scorer. He seems to be improving in every aspect of his game and just turned 18.Has filled out a bit to 180 as well.If we are at 3 he should be the pick.Toews went 3rd and that worked out pretty well.Desnoyers plays mean he and Boisvert on a line could become a tough line to play against down the road.

That´s what I think. If Hawks pick 1st or 2nd they´ll take Schaefer or Misa. If the pick is 3rd or 4th there there are more options to go with.

It doesn´t matter what we think or would do. Last year there were probably many who thought Sennecke shouldn´t go top three and he did. We like to vision players what they´ll become based on more our fiction than knowledge. In this years draft class Desnoyers and Frondell are considered as top 5 talents by many. And it´s really hard to compare players when they are playing in different leagues. Catton might not survive in Allsvenskan but is doing really strong in juniors.

They don't really exist.

Schaefer has game breaking upside, but he's been out of comission so long that we're all just guessing based on a small but top notch sample size.

After that, I don't know if anyone screams elite.

You can find elite attributes, but they come with flaws. Like Martone has elite IQ, but his skating is below NHL average.

And that's basically the story of this draft. "He's great at this, but..."

I think this is a very good description of this draft.

Excluding Schaefer, all the prospects in the 2-10-ish range who we should be considering for our pick have huge weaknesses or questions marks.

Misa - IQ and playmaking, playoffs struggles
Hagens - perimeter game, size and no improvements
Martone - skating and pace
Desnoyers - overall offensive game
Frondell - overall offensive game, puck skills, play driving, skating
Eklund - can he put on the size to translate his physical game
McQueen - will he ever be healthy
Bear - how much is the injury going to take away from his game
O'Brien - is he a product of teammates?

Smith, Aitcheson and Mrtka on D have questions as well, of what their ceiling can be, or in case of Smith, will they reach it.

Honeslty it's underwhelming because none of the guys above are game breaking play drivers you want from the top of the draft. They all look like complimentary forwards because of their limitations. I'd say Misa is closest because of the speed, but I don't think he has enough hockey sense to be consistent in that.

I dont think we can be projecting a top 2-3 forward to add to our team from this group. For sure some will improve on those limitations and emerge just because of numbers game, but they all need heavy projections.

I'd be really interested to see the FOs final board and what they value. Is it going to be risky ceiling and potential (Martone, Hagens, Eklund, McQeen) or a good bag of tools but ceiling limited (Misa, Frondell, Desnoyers, O'Brian)?

Honeslty I'm more and more favoring my personal pick of Eklund. He's the one where I feel he could overcome his limitations the easiest, because it's just mass related. The others will need a lot to go right for them, develop either physical tools like skating or IQ or significantly develop their skills to higher levels.

Not all doom and gloom, because we will add some nice things with any of the forwards like some more elite speed, or some missing physicality, or some defense, a good shot etc. But besides Schaefer, its just going to be a more complimentary prospect imo, not a true blue chip.

Jumping to 1OA would be amazing, but if we slip to 3-4 I have no idea what trait the FO will be chosing to prioritize. I think Misa is too much KD/D style not to get picked at 2.

Yeah besides the elite intangibles they nice thing about Desnoyers is how much physical development he has left. In contrast with Frondell or Martone for example, who are already more filled out.

If Desnoyers muscle development improves his skating, his shot and passes get more accurate and heavier, that would go a long way. But he needs some skill development too to be Toews like on offense. I like his hockey sense but his execution and bag of skill isn't on Toews etc level.

I think KD has this target ranking:

1 Schaefer(BPA)
2.Misa ...means either Bedardor Nazar moves to wing.
3.Martone...the Big wing fit for Bedard staying at C?

4. Risk on McQueen OR take Desnoyers OR trade down:

Montreal you can have Dessnoyers for picks 16 and 17...

Targets at 16,17 ,Leafs 2st and Our own #34:

.Milton Gastrin (W) (Swe Jr.)
.Eric Nilson( C)(Swe Jr.)
.Cole Mckinney(C)-USNTDPl
Alexander Zharovsky(C) -RUS(MHL
Vaclav Nestrasil (W)-USHL
Danil Prohorov (W)- RUS (MHL)
Do not know how they woukdcpruoritize this list of candidates ..but after disappointing strikeouts on Schaefer Misa and Martine they probably decide to go quantity and hope 1 or2 of ,thee 3 firsts and tge #34 ...so 1 or 2 of 4 selections in the range of thse 4 picks emerges ibto sone hemp for the team down the kine.

You are right and I am enjoying myself here.

Mustos take on Desnoyers isn’t as ridiculous as some of you are making it. You can like the player and also be rational about what the ceiling will likely be.

It´s not but predicting ceiling isn´t spot on thing even from professional scouts.

McQueen is big, can produce and a right-handed shot which is cool. That medical history at that age is too scary for a top 4 pick though.

Schaefer - Misa - Hagens - Martone in thar order for me. Whole bunch of guys I like at five but I haven't been able to watch as much as I usually do with the coma.
I agree with that order. If The Blackhawks drop to 3 or 4 I can groove with either Hagens or Martone. Misa is my number one guy but if Chicago gets the 1st and take Schaefer I won't be to upset with that. 😉

Add Samuel Savoie to Desnoyers & Boisvert and we have the Chicago version of : Big , gritty , talented trio

Why?

I've been respectful this whole time, and nothing I've said is unreasonable. Most scouts will tell you the same thing. I don't even have a unique opinion here.

I don't dislike the player at all.

I just think it's not a good pick at 3 or 4 because you're leaving too much upside on the board.
Grant McCagg disagrees with you on Desnoyers & Frondell

Kudos to you. You've been on the Misa hype train all year, even when Hagens was the clear front runner for the forwards.
