2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

I see Davidson trading this first pick if the right kind of move is out there. He was willing to give it away last summer when he tried to get Demidov. There is a lot of young players and prospects in the organisation already. If you can get relatively young NHL player who can strengthen the roster immediately Kyle might pull the trigger. I bet they first see how lottery goes and if the pick slides 3rd or 4th overall I could see possibly trade coming.

Risky if you're acquiring a guy with 3 or fewer years of team control left

I don't think there is a realistic player I'd entertain trading 1 OA for.

I'd consider trading 2-4 for Brady Tkachuk but with their playoff run I don't think there is a world in which he's available.

I love Pasta but he turns 29 next month so he's a no for me at any realistic cost.

I´m not going to pretend that I know what Davidson will or won´t do but I think he would be willing to trade the pick if it is 3rd or 4th overall. If the price is right and that might be the problem.

Same guy who had Nazar what.. 14th best hawks prospect, had Vlasic as lucky to play games. After he already had shown something at the nhl level. He just has a platform. He isn’t any better than some of the better posters here. If anything he’s much worse.

He gets things wrong, like anyone else. Though I've never understood his dislike for Nazar. That's why I didn't reference Pronman alone, unless you have a problem with Wheeler too.

I don't know why you're ripping him for not being high on Vlasic. You ripped Vlasic to shreds before he emerged as a legit top-4 D overnight. Called him charmin soft, said he didn't have the personality to play in the league, said he'd top out as a 5-6 D if he turned into anything, etc.

Sometimes people just get things wrong. Other times, players improve or they stagnate. It happens.

If we’re trading 1st OVR it better be for Pastrnak.

It better be for someone much, much younger than Pastrnak.

Though, there's no chance CHI is trading that pick. Last year was a calculated risk. They obviously were very high on Demidov and would have been comfortable picking him instead of any of the (at the time) projected top picks of 2025. Assuming they don't pick 1st, it would have been a Demidov vs. Misa/Hagens/Desnoyers/Martone/Frondell argument and I think most would argue that at worst, Demidov is on par with those guys and probably better than most, if not all of them.

What young player would be worth 1st OVR? Pastrnak is a 29 year old 100+ point player. Bruins would be getting a franchise D back and fully kickstart their rebuild

I can think of a lot, but they wouldn't be available. And that's why 1st overall picks don't get traded. It's impossible to get equal or better value for them.

I 100% did say those things. Have said I was wrong. People are wrong all the time. I’m saying he stuck to that after Vlasic already looked good. Nazar already had shown something in the AHL and even WJC previous that showed he was much better than 14th.

I respect wheeler a lot more.

No one really out there I'd be interested in trading #1 for.

I mean, he wrote this in November of 2024:

He ranked Nazar 14th prior to the season starting and Nazar's torrid AHL start. I agree completely that his Nazar ranking was bad regardless, but again, he's come out and said he was wrong about him.

Hoping Braeden Cootes is around when our second pick pops up.
Braeden Cootes is a “my guy” for sure. My other two “my guys” are Cole Reschny and Mads Kingsbak Klyvo. Cole Reschny is a terrible fit type wise for the Hawks. Klyvo is a Mckegg guy that looks exactly what the Hawks need.

Wouldn’t mind a Spence, Kindel, Gastrin, Nesbitt, Gard, Zonnon, or Nestrail in the late 1st/2nd rounders because they fit the Hawks needs. The 3 names above this paragraph are my guys though

if you are gm of the buffalo sabres sometime between may and june of 2018, are you trading rasmus dahlin for claude giroux?
I'm not trading 1st OVR to begin with. Trading it for Filip Forsberg and the 4th OVR pick to a division rival was insane. There's no realistic trade package that exists and that's why 1st OVR nearly never gets traded

I'm not sure that Davidson is completely adverse to taking average or sub par skaters as some people have suggested. Starting in 2022 Hayes, Kantserov, Pharand, Marcel, are all guys that I've watched who have not shown much skating wise. I agree especially at the top of the draft it is something they prioritize but they're not completely opposed to drafting players that could use some skating work. Boisvert also had some issues skating but has gotten a lot better in the last year and Bedard as well isn't the most fleet of foot. Ruling out Martone as a possible pick just because of skating isn't smart, I think he is pretty on par with Boisvert but I could be wrong.

Martone is a worse skater than 98. Bedard is simply a mediocre skater for his size, and Martone is okay for his.

Management isn't afraid of going for some mid skaters, but they do want to build a team that plays with pace. It's questionable how that pace would be affected if Martone was our best winger and playing big minutes.

Kantserov is pretty fast, no?

Regardless, Martone wasn't even mentioned by Powers as a prospect they're interested in.

It was the only trade package I could think of that involved a top line forward and kept them in the same range of picks they expect to make. We're not getting Pasta + Bs 1st so yeah, its extremely unlikely they trade down
