If Kyle skips free agency, then sure. The Hawks have to start being competitve.
They could sign Marner and another B tier free agent and still easily be picking top 10.
Trading away the 2026 1st could be disastrous. 2027 I would consider.

Even if KD kills it in the offseason with getting Marner and Misa we will still be probably bottom 5-7 and thus in position to draft McKenna…Maybe but if the Hawks in position to draft McKenna, then Kyle from Chicago had better be looking for another job. I do not want the Hawks to be in position to draft McKenna.
Clarke isn’t setting the world on fire because they don’t want to play him. KK would get the same treatmentI think they would. Clarke isn't setting the world on fire and they made a mistake trading Faber away for Fiala.
Not just McDavid....Kyle Conner, Eichel, Necas, Adrian Kempe, Kaprizov, and Tuch are all sub age 30 UFA's in Summer of '26. Not all of them will make it to free agency and sign extentions, but I suspect more might make it to market then most recent seasons as the rising cap likely makes guys (and their agent's) less likely to sign early. We aren’t getting Marner so people thinking there is a greater than 5% chance need to quit hitting the dispensary so hard. Hoping Misa/Frondell, mid season call ups of kids next year, then McDavid the following year FA (lol).
Kyle Connor is who I would choose. Kap has had some injuries but hear he would like Chicago. Not just McDavid....Kyle Conner, Eichel, Necas, Adrian Kempe, Kaprizov, and Tuch are all sub age 30 UFA's in Summer of '26. Why would Sequin waive his full NMC to go from an income tax free state on a Cup favorite to chase a top 5 draft pick with the Hawks? Why would Marner not pick any one of a half dozen other options he will have for similar money on teams WAY closer to (or actually) competing (or just stay in Toronto who has the money too)? That D is not good next year with one guy over 24. I am happy to roll that D for the long term development playing them would hopefully yield, but actual results next season would not be good. Misa at 18 probably should not be rushed to the NHL (even in this wildly optomistic lets sign Marner and Seguin waives his NMC team where he could be somewhat sheltered) and I suspect he ends up at an NCAA team if the whispers out there are to believed.Sign Marner
Draft Misa
Trade for Seguin
Ship out Dickinson
Pray for young D to improve...
Donato - Bedard - Marner
Dach - Seguin - Nazar
Teravainen - Misa - Mikheyev
Bertuzzi - Reichel - Foligno
Slaggert
Vlasic - Levshunov
Del Mastro - Murphy
Korchinski/Kaiser - Rinzel
Crevier
Knight

Two very different calibres of players. That is a very juicy group of names. If we can't land Marner, I hope we don't 'waste' the money on the Boesers or Eichels of the world.
