2025 NHL Draft Thread

Was glancing at guys from 20-32 for purposes of the Leafs pick.

I see Will Moore is listed at 6-2 and 160 pounds. Someone get that kid a gallon of ice cream and a bucket of french fries or something.

Cootes and Nilson are two guys that I am keeping an eye on as the season progresses

2. Martone/Hagens
3. Misa/Desnoyers
4. Frondell/Mcqueen

Would've added Viktor Eklund at #4 and Kashawn Aitcheson at #5 ahead of both Frondell/Mcqueen, but we can't draft players like those with our roster construction. Really hoping we get one of the first 5. Mcqueen's back injury scares me to death and Frondells production is worrisome.

Pretty big drop off after the top 6:

1. Schaefer
2. Hagens
3. Martone
4. Misa
5. Desnoyers
6. Eklund

Schaefer (I think he's probably 1OA)

And then there are a lot of good options with the Toronto pick too, maybe some trade up options even (atm I like Spence the most).

Too early in the season to really have any expectation. As long as it is a top 4 pick I will be content.

They need high end talent so if it's Hagens I won't complain. I think Hagens is 5-11 now so not in the smurf category. Smurf is 5-10 or shorter.

Without factoring in weight and playing style, drawing a line over an inch at 5-10 is absolutely pointless.

I think the Strome vs Point argument is a good one, not all big players play big, and some smaller guys don't get pushed around.

At Christmas break Hawks are at the bottom, nothing too shocking, they maybe unachieved a little bit but overall still a bottom three or at best bottom five team at this point imo. Looks like no true tank team this season but I guess we will see a few of those next season.

This is amazingly arbitrary and just outright hilarious. Hockey is way more about weight and center of gravity than height. Give me the 5'10 195 lb. guy over the 6'0 185 lb. guy all day.

He's got a bit of dog in him for sure from what I've seen. He won't be a bully or anything but he fights through contact really well.

Not really

I'd say less physical than DeBrincat or Nazar

I dont think you can have Nazar, bedard hagens kantersov all on the same line. you need 2 really good lines to win ST and a solid 3rd line with secondary scoring. im actually fine if we end up with any or the top 4 and I would throw frondell in there as a possibility as well assuming he stays healthy and produces in 2025

Exactly. Nazar may very well top out as a Versteeg level player, which would be just fine, but I think it’s premature to pencil him into the top 6

Tampa figured out how to go to three Stanley Cup Final with a top line anchored by two grown men that are roughly the same size as teenage Bedard and Hagens. Bedard is actually listed as being heavier than both Kucherov and Point at 19 years old, and Hagens is listed at almost exactly the same size as Point at 18 years old.

It can work if the elite skill is there. You find your size and grit elsewhere, and you don’t get so attached to your second and third tier prospects that you allow them to dictate what type of first tier prospects you take.

If Hagens ends up being the real deal and he could be a perfect fit for Bedard, then you don’t hesitate. If it means you must trade Nazar (which I don’t think is true but conceding the hypothetical), then fine.

Same goes for Schaefer and Korchinski.

Well the good news is lines are limited to 3 forwards, so you won't ever have 4 of them out there together for a regular shift.

On a serious note, you draft the best player available and let the rest shake out down the line. Acquiring size is easier than acquiring elite talent.

Really the 4th line can be any of the guys you mentioned above but those three are my favorite right now.

I think Bedard + 25 1st (if he's not Schaefer) is going to be good enough to have a complimentary piece like Vanacker/Moore etc as the third in the line.

And I know I'm missing Lardis, but I'm also in the wait and see camp if he can carry over his play from juniors. Would be amazing of course.

Honeslty this is a really strong forward core, once we get the two picks from the 25 draft. Most of our guys are tending up, they all skate, they all compete, there is skill. Imagine Misa on that top line there...

And we know how strong the defense is coming along. We are sitting really pretty.
