2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

on twitter powers and Laz talked on a podcast and powers mentioned Misa and frondell is who he heard they might like. they had no heard much about martone.
so basically we're looking at one of misa, hagens or frondell...if they pick 2 they go misa, if they pick 3 its between frondell and hagens and if they pick 4 its whoever is left of the 3...if they pick 1 they go schaefer but maybe misa?

If the Hawks aren't picking 1st, I think you seriously consider trading the pick

And if they are 1st (which would mean winning the lotto), I think you seriously consider trading next year's pick
I would always listen....but...if we luck into Schaefer I am not trading next years 1st because we are "out" on McKenna (and we are technically not out even if we win because we very well could finish dead last next year and still have a chance at McKenna). It is early for essesing these things (last year at this time Hagens was in the poll poisition for #1OA), but next years draft seems to be pretty strong and a number of forwards beyond McKenna that would be a real nice fit. Roobreck or Belechetz would be great add to our forward prospects and we are almost certainly a bottom 10 if not 5 team next year barring something crazy.

Name of the podcast? Is the podcast on spotify? I'd assume the Hawks are almost guaranteed to grab one of Schaefer, Misa, or Frondell if this is true

It looks like Montreal may make the playoffs so it will be interesting to see how the Montreal Smurfs do when the going gets rough and the refs are a bit more lenient with the rough stuff. Maybe a Smurf team can have some regular season success but I'd rather have some size in the playoffs.
As you say this of course is a thing so we shall see. I would imagine that if by some chance Montreal does do well it would be an outlier and not a new trend.

I've never been a Montreal fan as I grew up in an era when Montreal dominance in the 50's/60's/70's was sickening to a lowly Hawks fan - but in this case I hope they can win some games - maybe even a series - because with Demidov joining their team I'd like to watch as many games as posible.

As you watch the current Chicago Blackhawks team and with Pat Maroon retiring and a physical forecheck generally missing, I would not at all be suprised to see a Frondell/Murtaugh 1st round picks.

somebody recorded 2 mins of there hockey podcast and posted it on twitter. I found it by searching frondells name

Andrei Svechnikov.

Too injury prone for my liking not to mention he’s been bad this year. Easy no for me. He only has 4 years left on his deal too so it’s possible he’s leaving as a UFA when the Hawks are finally ready to compete.

At that point I’d rather they just sign Boeser who only costs money and keep the pick.

Ahhh yes ER I feel your pain as I too grew up in the 60's and 70's and that Lemaire slap shot from center ice still burns within the recesses of my mind! But yeah it's a totally different era now and I for one feel it's way over due for a Canadian team to take the cup ... not that it'll be Montreal ... would rather see Winnipeg or Ottawa take it!

Boeser is pretty damn slow and he is poor defensively. If we didn’t already have bertuzzi I would consider him a possibility.

I’m not even saying I like Boeser but which option are you taking?

Misa/Martone/Hagens + Boeser 7 x 9M. Or even put Ehlers here.

or

Svechnikov for 4 x 7.8M?

I really think the size issue is significant for the Hawks more so than most other teams based on so many of their current and future top-6 guys - Bedard, Nazar, Moore, Lardis, Kantserov - all under 6'. The bigger guys in the pipeline - Boisvert, Vanacker, Pridham, and a couple others are all projected to be middle-6 guys, at best, with none of them projected as top-line at this point in their development. Therefore I would eliminate Hagens and Eklund from consideration because they are sub-6' guys, Add one of Misa, Martone, Frondell or Desnoyers to the group of Boisvert, Vanacker, Pridham and hope one from that group develops into a top-line guy that is also not sub-6'.

Yeah I tend to agree about the size but you need to be carefully not to fall into a Kotkaniemi/PLD situation, where you pick the bigger guy with lower ceiling over the smaller guys who turn out more talented.

Desnoyers for example, I love the way he plays but if he's only a 2C going forward and someone like Hagens delivers on his ceiling, we could regret things.

We can always go BPA and then figure it out down the line.

I think what's more important is that our smaller guys play the right way. No perimeter shy away from battle guys going forward. Luckily Moore, Kantserov and Nazar are fine in that regard they're bulldogs. Bedard I think is also not a soft player although he needs more time to figure that out. Lardis we will see, but he has a good motor.

It's why I'm worried with Misa's playoffs. Does he get in a shell when the physicality turns on? Does Hagens? Are they pushed around easily, can they win the puck battles?

If no, that would be an issue to me no matter their size, but especially at a smaller stature.

On the other hand, Eklund I know is a beast. He plays much bigger than his size, he goes to the hard areas, plays really physical always sticks hos nose in there.

So again I agree with your overall point, but rather than size in feet and inches, I want to focus on the fight in the dog.

Eklund, Frondell, Desnoyers, Martone I know are fine. Misa I though was as well, but I'm a bit skeptical now. Hagens I'm not sure.

Misa sat out the last playoff game with injury. No fan really knows if he was just hurt in his last game or playing injured the whole time though.

Honestly Misa on paper really seems like the guy but I feel like something's missing when I watch him. Just seems to lack star quality to his game, only his quick release shot seems to be high end.

He's my 2nd best guy this year, but I agree he has a few question marks. Or I should say his PO performance didn't quiet any of them. I hope it's the injury.

I wonder btw how the FO views Eklund, I think him and Misa are the KD picks and Schaefer of course.

I’ll never get over the pain of’71 and’73. That being said, I don’t really care about whether Montreal wins or loses a series or two. However, no more Cups for at least a few more decades…they have too many. Same with the Yankees and World Series, Boston with the Celtics and Pats.

Lemaire, yes. Henri Richard is the one I despise.

If the Hawks by chance win the number one pick, they could trade for the 2nd or 3rd pick plus a haul. Think of all the teams that would want Schaefer. No doubts the Hawks get the 3rd or 4th pick but anything is possible.

Read this, Schaefer sounds like a stud. I think it'd be dumb to trade away that pick for any sort of deal mentioned in this thread. Draft a top 10 forward next year. Then have an elite top 4 D core for the next 15 years + Bedard + top line forward + all our other forward prospects + Knight. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

in a perfect world you send Schaefer to junior and roll with the current roster plus or minus some moves to hit floor and you're in McKenna race but it feels like there will be real pressure on staff to improve roster, but long term the Schaefer/McKenna route would be a more exciting outcome

1st overall is either SJ or CHI
2nd overall is either CHI or SJ
3rd NAS

Hawks are guaranteed a top 4 pick do one of these will be a Hawks

Matthew Schaefer, d
Michael Misa, f
Porter Martone, f
James Hagens, f
Anton Frondell, f
Caleb Desnoyers, f

Looks good!
