HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

A dumb pick that works out is not a dumb pick. This is equivalent to those complaining that the Habs waiting until 62 to pick Hutson was a mistake.

If you believe this then you should be at the casino right now. They made a factually lower percentage pick and got lucky.

The fact that you even put this opinion out for public consumption is worrisome as it demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of probability and risk management.

You quite literally are claiming that in a game of modified Russian roulette where each participant has their own gun and can choose which gun they pick up that the guy who knowingly picks up the gun with more bullets in the chamber is making a smart decision at that very moment if he happens to survive.

There is no correlation between Price and Hutson. That is an equally asinine proposition where in Price's case they are using a valuable pick where failure is not an option to reach for a player who plays a position that is notoriously the most difficult to accurately project and where the probability of failure has now been unnecessarily raised. In Hutson's case they took advantage of a player who had slipped too far and the probability of failure at his draft position relative to his potential was in the Habs favour. The whole reason that Hutson fell was due to the probability of failure relative to draft position and the Habs were lucky that he made it to their pick as he could easily have went earlier in the second round.

Hutson and Price are entirely opposite scenarios yet your peculiar sense of reality that asserts that the odds of the final destination of a roulette ball are the same as the initial odds before the roll somehow justifies the strange conclusions that you have unfortunately shared here.

Carbonneau and Daniil Prokhorov if we keep both picks.
If I'm taking Prokhorov there, which I'm not fully against it's because I'm getting one of the 5'10-5'11 centers wherever the team likes Reschny, Cootes or even Potter, I'll let them figure out who to take

Not really down to use the pick on any of the RD's there and I wouldn't be against using it on Smith or Aitchenson but I doubt either is available

That would be so weak
It's like people simply dont even watch winning teams anymore. Look at FLA - their smallest player was BRAD effing Marchand.. we have CC, gally and babyface Hutson. That's it, we're tapped out. No more, end of.. every single prospect who is below a 5'11" 200lb frame will be traded, so drafting any new small players is futile.. especially if they are soft..

Mesar and farrel are never gonna sniff the big club.

The only players who add value to our prospect pool are:
1- Hensler RHD
2- Fiddler RHD
3- Trethewey RHD

If we are going to swing fir the fences then C Ryabkin is worth the gamble.

Thankfully Hugo and the 10 or so veteren posters in here have some semblance of understanding.

The Mesar pick was probably the best thing that happened to us - cause Hugo will not be embarrassed again.

Don’t you have a "fake" scout to complain about? You keep repeating that the only people whose opinion we should follow in scouting are those with jobs in the NHL. Now that those with NHL jobs made the calculated decision of taking Carey Price at 5th overall was worth it, and were proven completely right by that selection, you find a reason to complain. You just don’t seem to be a happy person in life and talk down to everyone as if we are all stupid. I don’t have time for people like that.

I used to think it was "everyone is wrong except professionals" but now it seems more and more to be "everyone is wrong except me"

You’re the guy in Good Will Hunting that memorizes one line from a textbook and talks down to guys to try and make himself look smart but really has zero substance to him.

Ryabkin is not worth the gamble at 16/17. Not a chance in hell we draft him that early. Hugo will be tarred and feathered if that happens.

My top 100. Not a prediction, just a projection. Players I prefered throughout the year. All those guys, I've seen a minimum of 2 games either shift by shift or complete games. And all of the players I've managed to see them start of the year end of year or mid-year and end-year to get a sense of improvement. I understand that some players will be picked much earlier than a lot of players in my list, I either wasn't fan of or...just didn't see them all enough....Yet, again, not a prediction list....lol.

See you in 5 years to reassess. I decided to end my list with 5 Q players that I hope are being taken and that I really will want to follow their progress throughout the year. P.S. My McQueen ranking DO take into consideration the injury.

Mesar and Farrell aren't going to sniff the big club, but saying it is uniquely because of their size is every bit as reductive as ignoring size entirely.

Why not Prokhorov? We have two picks worth the gamble.

Carbonneau and Daniil Prokhorov if we keep both picks.
I'd be cool with that. Admittedly haven't seen much of Prokhorov but it gives us 2 power wingers. We lack size on the wings so it would definitely make sense

Ive noticed most of our players dont have much power behind their shots and none of them can really one time a puck. Patrick Laine even with his warts showed me how much we need that type of weapon in the future. Carbonneau has the best or second best shot in this draft with Frondell.

Thanks. As far as goalies are concerned, clearly not an expert...far from it...but I love my goalies to be square with with as little movements as possible....That's Andreyanov for me. Others aren't too far off though.

I would be happy ending up ending up with those two. Carbonneau has a real canon. Prokhorov also has one of the heaviest shots in this draft class… There’s a couple other guys that could be also very interesting if available at 16 or 17 and I would be happy with.

Great list. I think there is a clear top-14 in this draft, maybe top-13 if you discount Bear due to injury.

My hope is that we get any 2 players from the top-14 of your list, so hopefully a team reaches for someone like Hensler, Prokhorov, or Cootes

Now now gents, let’s cool our tongues, we are all on the same side here.

You both have great opinions and thoughts, keep engaging, not enraging.

Hug it out and let’s get back to healthy discussions 😎

His "extensive study" on drafting goalies in the 1st round is also horrible and completely flawed. I remember getting into it with him before
