HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Nesbitt definitely has the skills.

People will make it seems like it’s out of nowhere when he’ll explode next season and score 90 something points.
Not to be a winger is what I mean. He’s a centre or nothing. I find Cootes has a lot more versatility.

To me it’s worrying that he dominates down low so much yet has so little assist totals. He seems to only have interest in getting his own shot off when coming from behind the net when a lot of time he could have passed it to a teammate in the slot or the backdoor. Extreme tunnel vision.

And this is the MHL. If he has his head down and only tries wraparounds every time in NA professional hockey, he’s going to get absolutely obliterated by defenders that are a similar size.
There might be some selfishness but he can make passes. Maybe a small part of the answer is that assists are harder to come by in Russia. I heard Grant say that his coach put him with two guys who can't play and can't complete anything he does. Ryan Leonard also had some ridiculous assist totals at 15, 16, 17 years old where he had three times more goals. It happens.

As others have mentioned, we had been so used to looking at just a couple of potential players in our draft positions the last few years that it's so tough to gauge who will be available when we pick and has us watching numerous prospects.

I do remember most of us going nuts when Caufield dropped to us at the 15th pick in 2019.

I'm hoping the same happens with Carter Bear in this draft but obviously it's out of the Habs control up to a certain extent.

Bob's final ranking will be out monday. That leaves just enough time to sober him up for TV !

Still the benchmark for prospect rankings after all these years. I always look forward to Bobby Margarita's final rankings.

I’ve seen some games where he played in some russia tournament this season and he played differently, he was using his linemates well. But it’s that, a small tournament so it’s difficult to really know.

I find mid-1st is quite rich for my taste. But I get that GMs salivate over these types. Grant mocking him to the Habs in his draft guide is quite telling. Also the way that Bobrov said that Florian is a unicorn, I can only imagine his love of Prokhorov.

Yeah, if we’re lucky to get someone like Bear at 16 and at 17 you wanna swing with Prokhorov I’m ok with it. My personal home run swing would be Mason West, though but I wouldn’t be mad.

Grant said he could go even higher than 16 also.

His whole game is a gimmick. I see a glorified 4th liner.

I do see 3rd line potential if all goes well, but not much further than that. He doesn’t seem to have the IQ for it.

David St. Louis says he saw some good playmaking from him when he was used at the top of the circle on the PP. But I feel it was just his anticipation for where his teammates are supposed to be with the man advantage than actual scanning.

It looks like his true upside is Josh Anderson. I would think playoff teams would trade the 17th pick for Anderson right now. So I get it if Bobrov targets him.

I 100% agree. Intense, talented, forechecky wingers who are great on the cycle are missing from the pool

The wingers were actually a strength of the Habs this season. Excluding Caufield and Slaf, all of them were older vets that can't be counted on in three years. Gallagher, Anderson, Armia were pretty solid contributors at 5v5. Demidov will provide a massive upgrade on the PP and in terms of generating offence, but the depth is weak

Also, let's get real, when a prospect is said to have "top-6 upside", it means 3rd liner and "bottom 6 upside" means 4th liner. I like a physical 4th liner with jam, but we also have to get a good 3rd line

My dream is to get both Bear and Eklund for this draft. Two talented wingers with jam and good two-way play who are pretty safe bets to make it as good 3rd liners if they don't reach their ceiling
That’d be my dream also. Bear can make it to 16-17. That’s impossible with Eklund. We’d have to move up to 11-13 (which is entirely possible with our draft capital).

I’d offer NYR 17th + CLBs 2nd next year for 12th (this way they get an extra pick for next year as they would lose their 2026 first in that scenario)

I think it was Wheeler that said some teams are scared that Bear's injury might be similar to Krebs injury and how he was never the same. Wouldn't shock me if he fell far down, even passed the Habs if that's how teams feel.

Wasn’t that a full tear though? And Krebs has a different playstyle to Bear, it could just be that which has him disappoint. A perimeter player that isn’t particularly big.

Just relaying what teams are saying. I don't get into the medical stuff, as last year some posters were going to war over Lindstroms medicals and look completely stupid a year later.
