I always laugh when Martineau and JIC team up to dismiss the Reinbacher pick as often as they can when the kid is the only defenseman picked in the 1st round since the start of the rebuild.I always laugh at these praise-heaping testimonials as much as I enjoy listening to Martineau. He paints but a partial picture. We’ll look to orher pundits to get the rest of the story.
Most public scouts and fans have no idea how to build a hockey team. Go look at the finals, 70% of goals Florida scored was off the forecheck, if you don't have D that can handle relentless pressure you don't win cups. If you don't have great forecheckers, you don't win cups.I always laugh when Martineau and JIC team up to dismiss the Reinbacher pick as often as they can when the kid is the only defenseman picked in the 1st round since the start of the rebuild.
2022:
Slaf F
Mesar F
2023:
Reinbacher D
(Package deal to get Newhook) F
2024:
Demidov F
Hage F
They have no clue how to build a hockey team, top pair RD, big minutes munchers are as hard to get as it is to get quality top line centers. I mean, take a look at the Oilers, they have 2nd pair defensemen playing on the top pair and 3rd pairing defensemen playing on the 2nd pair, it works greatly... Same story with the Leafs, they are built at the top with a weak D group and goaltending.
Habs are built properly and it will pay down the road.
I like this stuff. He gets these kids to step out of their typical agent-led regurgitation. He seems like a good dude and gets these kids to open up a bit more. I appreciate something different as the NHL is so cookie cutterI always laugh at these praise-heaping testimonials as much as I enjoy listening to Martineau. He paints but a partial picture. Martineau is one of those people who don't like Reinbacher because they wanted the Habs to take Michkov.I always laugh when Martineau and JIC team up to dismiss the Reinbacher pick as often as they can when the kid is the only defenseman picked in the 1st round since the start of the rebuild.

The thing with Lakovic though, while he isnt a great forechecker yet, his combo of skating/reach offers ton of potential since he covers a large area of the ice and he has shifts where he skates both ways relentlessly. Of course, there is room for improvements and there is some projection to do with this kid as he is pretty raw, but I think the tools are there and he would be well surrounded on the Habs. Most public scouts and fans have no idea how to build a hockey team. I saw blue chip prospect guy on youtube say he would pick Lakovic and Carbonneau with the habs picks, I almost fell off my chair.
Oh I really like Lakovic and I'd be happy if the habs pick him, but there's no way they pick 2 risky wingers. If they pick one of Lakovic or Carbonneau the 2nd pick will almost surely be a D or a safer player like Cootes or Bear who already bring defensive and forechecking value and in Cootes' case is also a center. The thing with Lakovic though, while he isnt a great forechecker yet, his combo of skating/reach offers ton of potential since he covers a large area of the ice and he has shifts where he skates both ways relentlessly. Pretty sure Bear would be their top guy if he is available but the thing is that it’s most likely Bear OR Lakovic not both and there’s a possibility neither are on the board when the habs pick. Getting at least one of them would be very exciting.Oh I really like Lakovic and I'd be happy if the habs pick him, but there's no way they pick 2 risky wingers. Carbonneau isn’t scare to forecheck and likes to battle in the cornerOh I really like Lakovic and I'd be happy if the habs pick him, but there's no way they pick 2 risky wingers. He does look like something we would need. Not only can he attack the net, he seems to actually want to do just that on a consistent basis. The willingness is the tough part usually, Anderson and Armia can do it but they rarely try. We'll see how the draft unfolds but I'm adding him to my list of prospects I'd be happy to get. Finally an in depth video of Prokhorov. Well Simon and Grant both like him so that makes me feel even better about getting one of Carbonneau/Bear/Lakovic/Prokhorov at 16. Maybe even 2 of them.
by this logic neither do the scouts of the team that has been to back to back finals since the oilers d couldn’t handle it lolMost public scouts and fans have no idea how to build a hockey team. I still maintain that wing is where the Habs are weakest in their prospect pool anyways. It’s just people overlook it because of Cole, Demidov and Slaf. But if you want to compete for the Cup, you need at least 3 strong lines capable of tilting the ice. Right now our best winger in the system is Joshua Roy. That’s really not good enough.by this logic neither do the scouts of the team that has been to back to back finals since the oilers d couldn’t handle it lol
sometimes you let the draft come to you especially in the middle of the first, if the best two players left are skilled wingers take them and figure the rest out elsewhere imo
Same. I'm personally hoping we're picking two wingers.I still maintain that wing is where the Habs are weakest in their prospect pool anyways. We have no one in line to take over Laine’s spot in a year. We have no one in line to take over Anderson and Gallagher in a couple of years.

That’s why Cootes would be a great pick if they miss out on Bear. I can see him on the wing in the NHL if need be. He’s not a Nesbitt who doesn’t have the skills or skating to play wide.Center and a winger for me. Need more than Hage who can play top 6.
