Extreme tunnel vision. He can be a useful player because he’s willing to skate and hit. But he’s not a top half 1st round talent in my mind. I see Evgeny Artyukhin

Everytime I see him, my first reaction is wow, if this guy is going in the late second round, third or fourth round, this draft is really really strong. Then I see the bushels of players ranked ahead of him, and I think I'm really missing something.

And there were indeed major f*** ups with the trend of NHL teams drafting every big 6'3+ Russians flops at the turn of the millenium. I get that. Then there's the fact the process to jump a million hoops to get a Russian to NA is debilitating. Still this one's weird for me.

Then they conceivably have that 2C on board for the future and can think ‘stop gap’ this summer and avoid a major spend.

Wouldn’t want to part with 16 AND 17, but considering the return and maybe an end to hand-wringing, it might be worth it.

There are other assets/picks available.

This is all assuming they don't view Hage as the future 2C. If so, they're probably looking for that stopgap for 1-3 years. My money is on the habs either trading for a top 4 RHD or trading up and drafting someone like Mrtka.

I really like Hage and cringe when I see people put him in a package for trade.

The RD spot is hurting and Mrtka would be a great addition. Brzustewicz would be a very solid pick as well.

He was sold as a complementary player like Brendan Gallagher that you could throw on the top 2 but when you watch him he's not that. His motor is whatever, doesn't finish his checks as much as he should and just in general is a low ceiling guy while being one of the oldest players in this class.

Doubt he was ever a consideration in round 1, and I wouldn't be shocked if the Habs pass on him at 41 if he's still there, which I believe he will be.

Spence will be long gone by 41.

And yes, he was always seen as a first round guy, easily.

If they move up it will be for Mrtka, they will not look to fill the 2C with a draft pick but with a trade imo. I am hoping at least one of Bear, McQueen, Smith or Aitcheson drop to us. Don't want Carbonneau at all and would roll the dice on Nesbitt before him.

In a draft where 20-50 is one group of players, calling a player ranked in the mid 20s and dropping as a lock for the first round is quite laughable.

I do not expect the Habs to draft 12 prospect at the draft, some of these are getting traded. Whatever it is to move up or some lateral trade is up in the air though.

But I have no idea if he’s centred on HuGo’s radar.

If a team uses two 1sts to move up in the draft, I highly doubt it would be a for a winger, as much as I like the player. It would be for a centre or defender.
